Curriculum Books

I got this book for my 2-3 yr olds to start introducing science concepts. It has beautiful pictures full of details to look at and discuss. The first shows central park full of activity to introduce "All kinds of of forces". A picture at the seaside illustrates "Forces and sinking". A kitchen scene shows "Machines at work". Each picture is followed by a page of explanaition and some simple experiments to reinforce understanding. All are simple to do. I think we shall try them in a few year's time.

I just wanted to say how much my senior high youth group enjoyed this curriculum on Forgivenss. They loved the games and the discussions. I loved the the way its broken down so that they can understand and enjoy each lesson. I have tried many other curriculums but this is one they really enjoyed. Part of the Mathematics Across the Curriculum series, Foundations of Diatonic Theory IS mathematically based, but only requires basic math skills. While it claims to serve as a intro or basic music theory text, the first few chapters do not introduce interval names and thus require prior knowledge. On the other hand, it introduces relatively little mathematical skills such as greatest common divisor and coprime, avoiding modulo 12.

This instructional text is based on the latest papers in diatonic set theory. For people who took a music theory intro class and left with more questions than they began, this book is likely what they want. Why major and minor? Why the modes? Why the diatonic scale? Why the diatonic triads and seventh chords? The book leads readers through the discovery of properties of these collections which help explain their general, and some specific, uses and qualities.

This book, like the others in the series, is enjoyable and educational for young and old alike. The artwork selected shows a variety of styles and the accomanying cartoons are very entertaining. Venezia gives simple insight into the painintgs to help kids connect the man with the art and creates a mini artist history lesson.

Who is the narrator? By the end of the tale i was confused if Chaucer, The Franklin or one of his characters was speaking to me! Chaucer, the author of Canterbury Tales introdues the Franlin who now has to tell his tale to the rest of a pilgrimage on their way to Canterbury. The franklin who is just below the nobility in rank spells out an exquisite teale in which Arveragus marries Dorigen and promises never to be her master or force her to do anything unwillfully. Arveragus soon departs the scene as he goes to fight abroad and along comes Aurelius who declares his true love for Dorigen. Dorigen is upset and is in two minds what to do so she casts Aureilus away by setting him an impossible task of removing all the rocks in the sea to win her love. Aurelius nearly dies but with help from his brother and a magician an illusion is created whereby all the rocks disappear. Dorigen is now in trouble as Arveragus returns and she cannot possibly confess to love both men at the same time. She tells Arveragus of the situation who forces her to live with Aurelius. Dorigen thinks about committing suicide but then decides to approach Aurelius who forgives her and tells her to live with her husband. Aurelius now has no money to pay the magician for his illusion but all ends well as the magician lets him off. Who is the most kindes of them all? It is difficult to suggest who but this tale is so enthralling that you have to read it to believe it!

I wanted to share the wonderful experience of watching the metamorphous of frog eggs with my daughter. After the eggs hatched, I realized I needed more than my verbal explanation for my 4 year old -- how do these "little fish" turn into "frogs" Mommy? I ordered 3 books and this one was the best! It combines a wonderful story of a little girl asking her grandmother questions with sketches and real photographs. I am ordering more copies for friends and next year will share a copy of the book along with some frog eggs. PS - For great tadpoles, never use tap water. Rain water or pond water will provide the best environment. And the tadpoles *love* fresh spinach.

My students enjoyed the book and I felt it was helpful in explaining this life cycle.

Margaret Hillert's book, Funny Baby, is such a nice version of the "Ugly Duckling" story made readable for beginners. The illustrations are great and keep the child entertained visually as well as helping with the understanding of the story. The text is made up of a basic word list and those words are used repeatedly throughout the book. The basic text gives the child the chance to actually read a whole book and this gives a great sence of accomplishment. I give this book a big thumbs up for story content, level accuracy and illustrations.

I love Ghettopoly it takes board games to a new level. You get to pimp hoe's buy machines guns. Drugs are in this games. I love building the crack houses and buy stolen goods. Monopoly thinks they can just sue the people who made this game.

Young childen can acquire essential math skills and have a good time in the process. Action Math contains great activities, superbly photographed, that are based on sound mathematical concepts. While providing hours of enjoyment, these projects put basic math concepts into action!

Making and playing bingo, dominoes, snakes and ladders, tic-tac-toe, and making a jigsaw puzzle - these are some of the fun to do activities young children will discover in this colorful book. All the games challenge children to use such mathematical concepts as recognizing patterns and shapes, matching, remembering, and mental computation. In the process, children will find that math does apply to "real life" and that it's part of the fun.
