Great Pre-K Alphabet Guide

Review Date: 2006-01-04
If you are a Pre-K teacher and you work on a letter a week, this is the guide for you! For each letter of the alphabet, the authors list activities for: reading and writing readiness, math and science, alphabet appetizers and finger plays. What I did not know when ordering this book, is that it is part 1 of a 3 part series. This book contains activities for letters A through J. It's definitely a quick, easy guide to read.

This is a landmark book that gives teachers the tools to think outside the box. By making teaching more interesting to teachers, these techniques also make classes more interesting to students.

Greater creativity in the classroom is the key to enriching our educational system and improving scores.

This book should be required reading not only for all teachers, but for home-schooling parents as well.

This is a wonderful, readable, practical book. It begins with an intellectually honest treatment of creativity theory in a concise, user-friendly format. However, the classroom teacher is the targeted audience, and the book does a very comprehensive job of presenting research-based strategies that can be used in the classroom to enhance creativity. A great resource!

Authoritative and thoughtful view of Southwest archaeology
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 1997-10-26
Well-researched and gorgeously illustrated, this book manages to convey its author's enthusiasm for the Southwest's remarkable ruins without sacrificing scientific detail and even skepticism. He takes a well-known subject, Mesa Verde, and let's us see it with new eyes, while illuminating some of the least-well-known and most intriguing sites in the region. Few scholars and fewer tourists venture beyond Mesa Verde intothe obscure corners of the San Juan River valley, but William Ferguson shows how rewarding the trip could be. Above all, it is refreshing to read an enthusiast's book that does not indulge in unsupported speculation about the lives and beliefs of the prehistoric people of the Southwest.

I use this curriculum planner almost every time I plan. It uses a terrific compilation of Bloom's Taxonomy and Multiple Intelligences. It provides words and activity options you can use with any topic. If you include multiple intelligences or Bloom's when you lesson plan, this is the resource you need.

If we're talking then the curriculum is alive
Helpful Votes: 14 out of 15 total.
Review Date: 2000-05-28
In this quick read, Applebee suggests that when considering curriculum, educators think about the role of conversation. Without a need for real, deep, meaningful conversation around unanswered intriguing questions, curriculum is dead. All too frequently curriculum rests in a set of standards, benchmarks and already answered questions which are asked to the learner. If the questions already have answers why ask them? This book asks the fundamental question, how do we design learning contexts in which learners are invited into the conversations that are taking place between experts in any field of study. When we invite students to wrestle with these questions we are including them in authentic learning experiences because they, like the experts must engage in the struggle to find a solution to an unanswered question. What could be more inspirational?

Six step approach systematically guides the process of problem identification, needs assessment, writing goals and objectives, educational strategies, implementation process, and getting worthwhile evaluation and feedback. Based upon Johns Hopkins Internal Medicine model but substantial utility for all medical disciplines. I will use it in redesigning curriculum at my institution. Highly recommended!
