I am entering my 10th year as a Theatre teacher and I still found this book useful. It is a good reminder of those things you have let slip over the years for whatever reason. I think it is a good refresher for us old dogs, but I think it would be a wonderful resource for a first or second year teacher, too. I loved it.
It's a 'must' for any library which caters to actors or drama teachers.

Both experienced and beginning drama directors have easy, experience-backed tips on directing from THE DRAMA TEACHER'S SURVIVAL GUIDE: A COMPLETE TOOL KIT FOR THEATRE ARTS. When this book says 'complete' it means it: collections strong in drama will appreciate the range of tips from instructions on organizing tryouts - complete with tryout sheets - to blocking out rehearsals, technical aspects of scene set-up, tips on locating costumes, and more. It's a 'must' for any library which caters to actors or drama teachers.

This handy guide covers literally every aspect of putting on a production, and not only does it apply to high school theater, it is extremely helpful for any level of theater, from elementary, to high school, to amature, to community, to professional.
Margaret Johnson covers basics from selecting shows, to securing the theater, to casting and auditions to opening night.
The best part is that this book doesn't read like stereo instructions, there are personal touches from the author through out including her memories and stories of different shows she has worked on.
This book also includes audition sheets and other pages you can photo copy to pass out and have actors fill out.
Literally every question you could possibly have involving your theatrical production, this book covers it. Nothing will remain unanswered.
Also, it's important to note that I'm not a high school drama teacher, but I am a long-time theatrical passionate and I have been using this book as a holy grail while directing my first show.
Please email me if you have any questions.

This book is an excellent resource for parents and educators who wish to develop environmental awareness in young children. It is filled with LOTS of activities, stories, songs, and resources which help children to establish a spiritual connection with the earth and all its creatures. Through reading this book and utilizing its ideas, parents, teachers, and the children in their care can't help but develop a greater respect for the world around them. I have also found the Dream Starter section in each chapter to be an excellent relaxation tool for myself as well as my children.

A parent brought this book into my classroom and I thought it was an AMAZING book. We hatched chicken eggs in our classroom and this book gave a wonderful explanation of how chicks develop inside the egg. It also shows where the egg forms inside the chicken. The visuals are very realistic and engaging for children. The book shows other animals that lay eggs-including lice! Too bad it's out of print.

Using engaging transparent pages, this book captures the imagination by explaining what happens to eggs. Relying mostly upon a chicken, the book illustrates where the egg comes from, what's inside, how the animal grows, and how the peep breaks free. Besides the chicken, the book also briefly discusses other animals that come from eggs: other birds, reptiles, fish, and crayfish. The book is a great science book and stealthy increases scientific vocabulary. Not only that, but it contains a little bit of good old fashioned European humor as well. A wonderful science tool for children of all ages.

The dear little Emil always happens to get into mischief whether he wants it or not. Even if he looks like an angel and he always means well - well most of the time, anyway. Emil is 5 years old and lives with his sister and parents at a small farm in Sweden about 100 years ago. Astrid Lindgren, the writer, is the most famous of all Swedish children's writers.
This is a book for children and their parents to read together and to laugh at together not only once but over and over again.
No wonder that it has been translated into ever so many languages.

This story is about a wood cutter who is given a wish by a faerie for saving his life. The wood cutter returns home with the wish only to find his family at odds over what he should wish for. In the end the wood cutter finds a way to make everyone happy. I like the story, but it is not one of my 3 year old's favorites.

The Faery's Gift is magnificently illustrated by Nicoletta Ceccoli and features a beautifully written story by Tanya Robyn Batt. A poor woodcutter rescues a fairy in the Forest and is rewarded with one wish. Trouble is each member of his family wants him to make a different wish. You'll be eagerly turning the pages to find out how the woodcutter solves his dilemma. I was completely charmed by this story.

This is a wonderful DVD series. My children (9,8,5) have loved watching the movie segments about the characters from American history. There are even some that I had never heard of. Mr. Stotts puts a humorous twist on his narratives of each person that keeps the viewer very involved. I highly recommend this video.

Teaches American history as it really happened. Takes the reader on a journey through American history, accompanied by historical figures that paid the price to gain the freedom we enjoy today. Investigates the worldview of our nation's Founders and gives a perspective of American history that has been largely lost today. Designed as a teacher's text, it also makes for a great supplement for any history student.

The Freedom Writers Diary is an incredible book for teenagers to read, and this book will help any teacher use the FWD to motivate and inspire students. The Teacher's Guide contains practical activities that tie into the book but can also be used independently. Several of the activities, such as the Line Game and the Toast for Change, were featured in the Freedom Writers movie. All of the activities are tied to NCTE standards, and they are all ready to use. This book will help educators teach reading and vocabulary skills, but it will also help them reach their students. The Freedom Writers Diary is an incredibly powerful book for teens, and the Freedom Writers Teacher's Guide is the best teacher's guide I've ever used.

I have been using the Freedom Writers Diary for eight years in my class. Students love this book. I teach at risk kids who struggle reading and getting them to read any book is a major achievement. The Teachers Guide helps teachers: use the Diary, introduce other books and create a sense of family in your class in the order of Room 203. You will find that this book will become worn out from use.

Food has always been a major preoccupation of humankind. The "agricultural revolution" (14,000 - 10,000 BC)changed the world and since then, the majority of the people in the world have been farmers. At least until the 1990s. In that decade, for the first time in the history of the planet, urban dwellers outnumbered rural/ agrarian dwellers. The trend continues, and at the moment, the number of people in prison in the US outnumbers the people who list "farming" as their primary occupation.
This decreasing percentage of farmers producing increasing amounts of food, is thanks to changes in technology. Simply stated, technology, especially petroleum related technology, has increased agriculture's per-capita output many-fold. Pre-20th century agriculture was solar-powered, whereas 20th and 21st century agribusiness is increasingly petroleum powered.
Never before has so much food been available for so little to so many people who are unaware that a carrot grows in dirt! Because so few people are farmers now, especially in the West (USA and Europe), few people are aware of the true costs of food production.
These facts make this book of great value. REading it will help you understand the basics of agriculture and will inspire you to teach others. The illustration of using an apple to demonstrate the limited nature of top-soil is alone worth the price of the book.

The classroom resourses will work for any kind of classroom regardeless of size, age (3-6) or even subject.
