Insects Books

I learned more from this book about solving pest and plant diseases than from any other gardening book. I highly recommend it to anyone struggling with problems in their garden but not wanting to use pesticides.

My two year old daughter loves this book. The pictures and simple story really hold her attention.

I love this book, and I like to read it to my 5 year old son who loves it as well.

What makes this book stand out is all the awesome textures of the illustration, which is build from recycled magazine cutouts.. It's beautiful.

Jay and Laura O'Callahan makes for a fine team, I would love to see more published material from the duo.

Max Lucado's Hermie the Common Caterpillar series is quickly becoming a favorite in our house. This sturdy board book is perfectly sized for my daughters, ages 4 and 2. Hermie's questions quickly engage young minds as he himself introduces and concludes the story of a mean ol' frog who bullies some chicken-hearted ants. Illustrations are colorful and lifelike. Based on the story of David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17), Lucado reminds us that "the real hero is God." I also recommend the recently released Rock, Roll, and Run by the same author.

Saw an advanced copy and loved it. My 6 year old loved it more. Poetry about BUGS. That makes it very cool.

TNT (Teresa Newton-Terres) has done an outstanding job with this book. It is a must read for all ages.

An entry from the Hide and Seek series, Bugs explores the amazing world of insects in seven habitats: tropical rain forests, mountains, deserts, meadows, caves, tropical grasslands, and swamps. Each habitat is described initially in a full-color two-page spread, followed by two pages of facts about species of bugs found in that particular environment. The margins are used cleverly to impart even more facts about featured bugs. An appealing balance of text and illustration adds to the value of this book, which should prove useful for student research.

I purchased this book for a friend's 3 year old. I was a little worried it was too simple for her. Her parents read to her a lot. My friend called me all excited because her daughter just "read" it to another little kid. It's one of her daughter's favorites.The pages are thicker than normal pages but not board pages so there easy for her to turn.

Neither a dry, boring scholarly text or a fluffy, detailess overview, this book takes you into the world of the honeybee. Like all of Crompton's naturalist books, there is no theory or moralising here, just engagingly written descriptions of the author's own observations. Even though he had no formal training (being an Imperial soldier by trade) in writing or natural history, Crompton's texts have stood the test of time far better than the works of the so-called "experts" of his day. I do not hesitate to recommend this book to readers of any age, regardless of whether they are disgusted or fascinated by insects.

While the book designers are very careful not to copy the colors of the very popular comic book character, the stylistic web (not to mention the big ol' spider) on the cover may entice some young fans to explore the world of Hobo spiders.

Well organized introduction to the habitat, life cycle, enemies, bites, etc of Hobo spiders. Contains great details such as, "Hobo spiders are part of the "funnel-web"family. All spiders in this family weave webs shaped like funnels." Also has lots of interesting facts. For example, did you know that while their bite, won't kill you it may take years to heal?
