Terrific early reader book

Having just learned of this book while looking at an older age group of books,...I've found something worth buying for my brand new niece. Here the writer helps the child find out about all different kinds of bugs without getting into any detail (of course, for that age group...) and where they can be found and shows an observing nature,...not something where the child will be thinking of emulating in a negative manner. The illustrations are bright, animated and very fun to look at with each new page.
Lots of fun. Keep up the good work!!!

I had attended a "virtual Usborne book party" online give by a cousin last year. My son is 11 and abosulely loved the internet linked books I purchased last year, not only for the books but for the wonderful safe websites we could visit. We could watch videos of the animals and learn together. I was SO happy that I could order additional books at a fractions of the cost from Amazon merchants. I would highly recommend these books, they arrived promptly in great condition!

DADDY LONGLEGS is a nice informative, non-fiction book about the arachnid Daddy Longlegs. The up close pictures of this bug, shown on every page of the book, are interesting to look at. Children will learn a lot about Daddy Longlegs by reading this book. I sure did. This book is for children 9-12.

This is a wonderful book for young children. The detailed, brightly colored illustrations draw children's interest immediately. Once they have opened the book, lifting the flaps keeps them hooked! The information given about various insects is simple and easy for young children to understand. My children ask to read this book over and over again.

Activity Book Will Delight "Miss Spider" Fans

"Bugs Away! is an activity book sure to be enjoyed by fans of the "Miss Spider" series. There are a total of ten activities, ranging for a matching game to a word search. Most of the pages are brightly colored, just like other "Miss Spider" books. However, there are also a few pages in black-and-white to color in.

This book comes with wipe-off pages. That means that by using water-based crayons or markers with the book, it can be "wiped" and the book can be used again. This means that you can get some wonderful mileage out of this book, especially if your family is as big as Miss Spider's.

A Fun Yet Honest Explanation
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2000-12-03
Set in rhyme, this is a great book with large, detailed illustrations. Honestly describes carnivorous creepy-crawlies (not too many details, though). Includes spiders with insects under broad group, all simply called ''bugs.'' Introduces concept of bug-eating humans in places ''where meat is scarce.'' Further explanation (without the confines of rhyme) is given at the end of the book in list form, beside thumbnail pictures of each page. Not for the VERY young (I carefully stressed to my 4 year old that the people who eat bugs prepare them first) or for the child still disturbed by animals eating each other.

great cut out bugs with a variety of uses
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 11 total.

One of several books in the Waltons' paper chains series, this one is by far the most elaborate. The bugs come out realistically and beautifully; they make great decorations for greeting cards or can even act as self-contained cards. The book comes with ideas on how to use the cut-outs and with sheets of colorfully patterned, high quality paper (unfortunately, there is no way to acquire more of this paper; it isn't sold independently of the books). As an adult, I love this book, but it seems like cutting the numerous skinny bug legs would quickly become tedious for all but the most dedicated junior craftsperson. Some of the Waltons' other paper chains books might be better choices for kids.

The popups are amazing, huge and very impressive. Little boys will love them. I like to collect popup books, so my main interest is in the quality of the popups which is very very good.
Buy the book if you have young buy. He will be sure to be delighted.

I am buying several copies to give as gifts at Christmas time to my young relatives.

Boys love stories about bugs!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-06-24
I gave my 8-year-old nephew this book for a present and he loved it! He took it to camp with him and showed it to his friends. What a fun story to get kids reading something wholesome. He enjoyed learning a bit of Bible history because it included his favorite creepy critters--bugs. It also had a great lesson that no one is too small to make a difference in God's world. The art was very funny and it grabbed his attention on each page.
