What a great little ant book this is! Anthony Ant (a cute black ant "kid" wearing a day pack and sneakers) tramps all through his underground nest to deliver Birthday invites to all his buggy friends. The pages fold out as you follow Anthony through the maze. The pictures are bright and charming, with lots of visual jokes that kids can spend hours discovering. Plus, anyone with an interest in real ants will be amused by all the appropriate and accurate nature details (such as Anthony's "pet" aphid). Very, very entertaining and cute... I hope this is re-issued soon so I can send copies to all my little friends..

My 4 year old loves this book. The books greatly detailed map of the whole ant village and associated greater detailed rooms in the village provide hours of treasure hunting. Make sure you read it with ample lighting or you will strain your eyes. Will look for more by Philpot.

Very inviting book about ants. Each left page has two easy to read sentences with a lot of open space. For example, "Ants are about the size of a sunflower seed. Ants have six legs." Each right page is a close up of an ant or ants. There is a glossary, short bibliography, index, and publisher updated web links. Karen Woodworth Roman, Children's Science Book Review

This is a very good book.It is about two friends that have to go out in the world to look for food for their colony, and the adventures they have along the way.
The pictures are very well drawn and the story is very entertaining. Hope you will enjoy this book as much as I did.

This book is beautiful and it has a wonderful story. The illustrations are cheerful and bright. The back pages offer all the facts on the life cycle of caterpillars, which is a bonus. That way a child gets both a story with a main character to identify with and a subtle science lesson in metamorphosis.
Our little friend Finley loves it -- and he has begun to hunt for a caterpillar of his own.

This book is probably the best book ever written in regards to streamside insects hatchs and life cycles. Art goes into great detail listing the type of insect their life style and life cycle. It goes so far as to estimate the time of day a hatch will occur. Excellent book for the trout angler. It does give some insight as to fly patterns but mostly it explains the insects, how trout feed on the and why.
Highly recommended, and i can see alot of field time and work went into this book. It wasn't written by someone that doesn't spend alot of time on the stream.
The size lends it to a take along book. The original published book in a leather slip cover list for $150.00 in the Orvis catalog. Its a great buy.

Squirt learns that it's not a good idea to follow a hunch. Miss Spider and Holley show him that there are objective signs that prove that winter is coming, no matter what Ted and Ned might say.
The lesson of this book is preparedness and like many other "Miss Spider" books, this one teaches its lesson well. If you or your kids enjoy the television series, then you'll love this as well. This is book # in the "Miss Spider" paperback readers series of books based direclty on the television stories.
