Essential reading for anyone interested in macrobiotics
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 1998-10-31
Dr. Kotzsch describes the theory behind the cooking, that is, everything else you would like to know about macrobiotic living after you have more or less learned the cooking. He applies the macrobiotic ideas to today's living, and provides examples so that one learns that cleanliness and order for example, will promote the free flow of vital energy in a home. This is really a guide to macrobiotic thinking. Delightful that it is in print, it should be made available in softcover.

This is an excellent work for health buffs. It describes
a series of delicious and healthful juice preparations
that are simple to prepare. The "six pack" consists of
asparagus, dandelion, melons, cucumbers and pears in a unique
blend. The "bumpy ride" consists of apples, beets and celery.
The "power pack" consists of carrots, beets, oranges &
strawberries. There is an interesting ginger derivative
consisting of carrots, cantaloupe and ginger root.
The cited juice preparations will enhance any diet with
a proper alkaline balance and natural vitamin supplementation
resulting from the many delicious preparations described
in this work. It is a worthy purchase as a supplement to the
existing health regimen. In addition, people who work out
frequently will need the vitamin and mineral supplementation
of these juice preparations to replace depleted minerals
from strenuous physical activity.

Although women experience "the curse" from their early teenage years until their early fifties, most of us don't discuss it in depth . . . and certainly don't write or read short stories and poetry about the subject! This book, by a collection of talented authors, is for women of any age and is inspired by the wonders, embarrassment, and power of menstruation. Surprisingly, it is a very funny and touching read. I am past menopause and who would have guessed that this book would actually make me nostalgic for that significant part of my younger years.

Ok so this book says the TM movement was bogus, SunRider Products are a sham, Food Combining was disproved in the 1930's yet we still hear about it (Fit for Life, Anthony Robbins Nutrition CDs) Detoxification - that's B.S. too - your colon and mine are pretty clean no matter what we do so skip the enemas, and if you're sick, you're probably sick, it's not your body detox'n, go get some drugs that'll make you feel better and in 10 days it'll be gone. Bottom line is we want to feel like we can make a difference or make outselves younger - you can't do it, there's 5 reason why we die, only 2 we can do anything about - nutrition & exercise. Bottom line on this book is eat good wholesome food (yep - the food pyramid works still) and exercise but don't do anything in the extreme as it won't make any difference.

Everyone knows that human breast milk is best for growing babies. It contains over 100 "ingredients" that can't be replicated in a lab. This book shares with the conscientious nursing mom information about foods to enhance your breast milk's nutritional value and ways to reduce toxins by avoiding non-stick cookware and certain plastics. It has sound research-based information and great recipes.
