I have found every recipe I've tried in this book to be easy and excellent, without fail! I know I can count on making a recipe from this book for the first time for friends; that's how good it is. I love this book.

This book is wonderful! Do you love hearty comfort food but want to also be healthy? Then this book is for you. Every recipe I have tried has been excellent and has really helped me stick with healthy eating habits because the food is so yummy! It is very helpful to have a big colorful picture next to every dish. Great buy!

I own a lot of cookbooks, and this one is by far my favorite. Kay Shaw Nelson presents recipes for soups, stews and ragouts from around the world. The recipes are straightforward and easy to follow, and the results are delicious. It is worth it to buy this book for the Mulligatawny recipe alone!

A stellar knife-and-fork stew, Garbure, is my personal favorite in this collection.

Frozen peas are fit for royalty when prepared with lettuce leaves and chicken stock, as are mushrooms, pan fried to golden then dashed with herbs.

You can count on the recipes in this book to be good because they are the special favorites of food writers across the country.

Although I have only tried 3 of his stew recipes so far, plus a biscuit recipe, I can't wait to try the rest. His short ribs for example, are wonderfully ungreasy because you take them out of the cooking liquid and finish them in another pan. Some of the other recipes look like they may require a little too much butter or oil - like the chicken fricassee, but the flavors are great. Most of his vegetable recipes seem a little skimpy for dinner, they're more like side dishes, which is too bad. I wish he had included more information about the different stew words he uses - what is a burgoo? But now I know what a bog is - and it sounds delicious.

If it's not easy, I don't want the recipe. I made soup every night for a week. My husband loves them as much as I do. Very satisfying and delicious. Worth every penny.

The Ultimate Chili Cookbook is one of ten chili books I refer to when I want to make chili differently than the two recipes I usually use. We have chili a lot in our house and both my Dad and my Mama have their favorite ways of cooking it. I grew up with their recipes and I have documented them in one of my "Amazon So You'd Like to Guides" and I hope you take a look at it. Both recipes are delicious, but when you've had them as often as I've had 'em, you sort of yearn for something a bit different. So, once a week, usually on Saturdays, I break out these ten books and search for a chili recipe I either haven't tried, or one I haven't made in a long time. Of course, like all cooks, I fudge a bit with the ingredients, but not all that much. I like to stick pretty close to the recipes, at least the first few times I make it, so I can get an idea of what the writer/recipe maker had intended.

And let me tell you, you'd be surprised at the subtleties there are in a chili recipe. As they say, no two chile recipes were created equal, but the recipes in this book have never let me down. I've got a lot of chili books, have tried a lot of recipes over the years, but the recipes here, like the recipes in my other nine fave books, have been consistently good. You can't go wrong with The Ultimate Chili Cookbook.

I purchased this book for one recipe- the Lentil Lemon Soup. It was so good, I tried the Spaghetti Squash Soup, Rose-colored Cauliflower Soup, Asparagus Cheddar Cheese Soup, Chicken Gumbo...! All the recipes I tried are wonderful and can be whipped up in time for supper or lunch- no all day simmering!
