But what Trent has failed to divulge is his attraction to her since their first encounter, as the reason for his disbelief. When Jaunie's life is threatened, will Trent finally throw caution to the wind and learn to forgive and forget?
PRIVATE LIES is an awe-inspiring tale of two people destined to find happiness. Once again Robyn Amos has entertained readers with another excellent tale of romance and suspense. This novel was such a fast-paced enjoyable read that I did not want to see it end.

One reviewer below commented about how the "woman taken in adultry" part in the book of John is regulated to the end of the book. This was done for "textual criticism" reasons, which I don't agree with, but the missing segment is eventually included and not completely deleted. I would rather it be left as it has originally been. Other than that, I really like this translation.

Absolutely Outstanding!Review Date: 2006-06-29
This book is rich with full color, high quality photographs, as well as original photographs direct from the National Archives. The subject matter flows easily from one topic to another. The author's descriptions are well written, clear and concise. Complete outfits and gear are shown, head to foot, showing how the gear goes together, how they were assembled and which items were used during what year, then paired with original photographs illustrating and documenting exactly by whom, where and when they were used.
It is obvious that the author embarked on a huge project and put an immense amount of research, hard work and dedication into this book. Since this is the first volume of a series, it is clear that the following volumes promise only more of the same quality, consistency and excellence.
Whether you are a veteran, collector, curator, historian, teacher, artist, scale model-maker, costumer, re-enactor or simply have a keen interest in the Navy during WWII, this book is a definite MUST HAVE.
outstanding new bookReview Date: 2006-07-20
The photos are crisp and clear, the descriptions are great and the information is phenomenal!Mr. Warner took may of the photos outdoors, so you have a difficult time relizing that these are not actual war time color slides. his section pertaing to the sub force was amazing to say the least, the simple fact that he had an original black dyed set of the khakis in this book was mindblowing! And the fact that said uniform actually was on a model who was on an actual sub was incredible! Really loved this section. His gear layout are unmatched, as well as his use of wordage to describe the equipment.
Never before have I seen a reference book with so many original picture that havent been seen a 100 times before in other book, buy this book for the original pictures alone!
If anyone out there is hesitant to buy the book due to the rather high cover price, well then, said person might be called an imbecile! a really superb reference book, like this one,are hard to come by, as well as worth their weight in GOLD!!!This book is worth its weight in Platnum! Don't be a penny wise and a pound foolish, spend the money for this book, it's well worth the price! I would have paid twice this amount if asked by my book dealer!
I am looking forward to the other 4 volumes of the US Navy in WWII from Mr. Warner in eager anticipation, especially his chapter on Aircrew and pilot uniforms.
all my best,

A Good Book and Something Completely DifferentReview Date: 2006-07-06
Of course no book of this type is perfect but in my opinion, this book's faults are minor and are far outweighed by its merits. Here are the pluses and minuses that I discovered although your interpretation might be different.
These are the things I didn't like; the author used live people to model most of the uniforms for the photos. That's okay but it looks like there are only about 5 or 6 guys wearing about 30 different uniforms. It was a little disappointing to see the same few guys wearing so many different uniforms. However, to his credit, the author does apologize for this in the forward.
It looks as though the photo quality is not as crisp and clear as in other books of this type. I know some writers use slide film or new high tech digital imagery these days. The photos in this book just aren't eye-popping quality.
The title is a bit deceptive. About 80% of this book is devoted to Navy Corpsmen and USMC uniforms & field gear. Maybe the title should have included something about Navy Corpsmen.
The price is very high at $79.00 retail.
These are the things I did like; everything is in one volume. This isn't a book about one subject like helmets, knives or patches. Complete uniforms are shown and the subjects are thoroughly covered from A to Z.
This book is very informative, not just pics of WWII stuff. The author has shown step-by-step instructions for assembling packs and other equipment and the complete list of all the medical items carried in the navy corpsman bags is wonderful. Some experimental items and camouflage are shown as well. The official regulations are often quoted in the text for the wearing of insignia and uniforms which adds a lot of credibility to the author's work.
There are a few recent USMC uniform books already in print that feature similar items. Namely, "Grunt Gear" by Alec Tulkoff, "Paramarine" by Chris Mason and "USMC Uniforms, Insignia and Personal Items of WWII" by Harlan Glenn. I have all of these books and I found very little repetition in "Sailors in Forest Green". Notably, the other books devote little or no attention to dress uniforms which is covered very well in this book. Also, none of the other books give little more than a passing honorable mention to corpsmen. The original combat photos of navy corpsmen and the layouts of the gear they used are also covered here in detail. In my opinion, if you have other USMC reference books, this one will compliment them, not rehash the same material.
With all of the overkill of books out there on U.S. paratrooper gear and German SS camouflage, I'm glad that someone has finally taken on the job of writing a series of serious reference books about the U.S. Navy in WWII. After seeing this first book in the series, I'm really looking forward to the rest of them. All things considered, I give it 5 stars.

A translation.Review Date: 2005-04-12
Sappho takes a special place among the poets of Antiquity. She was already famous in her own time. Plato said that she was the tenth Muse and someone called her poetry " as refreshing as a morning breeze ". Her poems are vivid and she needs only a few words to describe essential human feelings. She calls solitude for instance " this icy numbness of being alone ".
( Nice to know: from Sappho's poems remain about 500 lines. All Tragedies by Aeschylus have a total of 8144 lines. Conclusion: What's left of Sappho's poems is next to nothing. )
" Wedding of Andromache " is one of the most vivid descriptions in the poetry of Antiquity. It gives an almost journalistic account of the homecoming of Hector and Andromache. A fragment of Barnstone's translation:
" ...
and all set out for Troy
in a confusion of sweet-voiced flutes, citharas,
and small crashing cymbals
and young girls sang a loud heavenly song
..."
Sappho excels also in describing landscapes and nature ( something you don't find often in Ancient literature ). A fragment of " Aphrodite of the flowers ",
"...
Here ice water babbles through the apple branches
and roses leave shadow on the ground
..."
This translation was published in 1998 but as a work of art in itself, it's by no means outdated.

A few things are interesting about the character right off the bat...First, the writers were doing their best to make Green Arrow and Speedy into another Batman and Robin. Both Oliver Queen and Bruce Wayne are wealthy, [...]types with young wards who come under their guidance. Green Arrow had his Arrow Car, Arrow Plane, his secret Arrow Cave hideout, and the police even had their own Arrow Signal to contact GA when there was trouble. Unfortunately what Green Arrow didn't have his writers like Bob Kane or classic villains like the Joker or the Riddler. One thing that these early Silver Age stories did have going for them is the art of Jack Kirby. Now Kirby fans might be a bit disappointed as this is not Kirby at his finest. It's not close to what fans are used to from his 1960's period. There could be a couple of reasons for this...First he probably didn't have an inker as strong as Joe Sinnott, second, and more likely, was the fact that in the 50's DC's editors really didn't encourage a lot of artistic style from their artists. They wanted books finished quickly and Kirby could crank out the pages as fast as anyone. Lee Elias took over the art chores after Kirby left and did a commendable jog. He was unspectacular but steady.
Most of these tales were written by Ed Herron or Robert Bernstein, a couple of guys kind of lost in the annals of comic lore although Herron is somewhat famous as the creator of Captain Marvel Jr. in 1941 for Fawcett Comics. As mentioned, Green Arrow and Speedy fight crime with a variety of outlandish trick arrows including: rope arrows, short circuit arrows, aqualung arrows, fire cracker arrows, harpoon arrows, glue arrows, buzz saw arrows, and many, many more. I think my favorite is the dry ice arrow. And then there is his villains which are not exactly the Flash's Rogues Gallery...Mighty Mr. Miniature, Phantom Bandit, Camouflage King, The Pneumatic Man, and the Spectrum Man. There are also a large number of Sci-Fi style elements with the pair battling a giant mechanical Octopus and a robotic archer that fires rapid-fire arrows, as well as numerous alien threats. You had to love the 50's!
While most of these stories are throwaway quickies, there are a few notable stories. "Green Arrow's First Case" from Adventure #256 tells the story of GA's origin. "World's Worst Archer" from Adventure #262 relates how GA first met Roy Harper and took him on as his ward and sidekick. Another important story from a historical sense is from Justice League of America #4 where Green Arrow is elected to membership in the JLA. In a story from Brave & the Bold #85 Green Arrow teams with Batman to track down a man who tried to kill a Senator. This story features a cover and art by Neal Adams and it may be the first time Green Arrow sported his now trademark goatee. At least when Batman sees him he says that he didn't recognize him at first.
This is a welcome edition to the Showcase Presents series which, along with the House of Mystery and Jonah Hex editions is reprinting material that has not been seen in decades. Pure silver age fun and excitement!

Tales of a couple of "straight arrows"!!Review Date: 2008-05-13
This may be due in part to the fact that the Emerald Archer never faced the villainous A-squad that Batman did. Almost anyone can rattle off a few of Batman's rogue's gallery if given a minute. But how many even serious comics fans are familiar with Green Arrow foes such as: Iron Archer, the Pneumatic Man, The Birdman Gang and Bonzo the Ape Archer?
The stories are often gimmicky, problems are solved by using some kind of convenient trick arrow. This is probably in part because that as back-up stories many of G.A.'s tales are pretty short and require a speedy resolution, such as one provided by a trick arrow. But Green Arrow's skill with a bow and quick wit is cited as often as his crazy arrows as the reason for his triumphs, and later, longer stories often required Green Arrow and Speedy to actually use their gray matter to solve problems. And sometimes the gimmicks were just downright amusing: Boxing Glove or Umbrella arrow anyone? This is a delightful and imaginative and BIG compliation. Because there are almost 70 stories here, you can read several a day for weeks before you finish. Read'em while your cooking, doing the laundry or leave this volume lying around the toilette to class it up. Here are a few highlights:

'Silent Struggle' is so well narrated and studded with analytical and philosophical thoughts that I just couldn't put the book down when I picked it up. And when I was done I was still looking for more to devour!
I will like to see a sequel - especially how Kwasi adjusts to the strife the US has had to go through with the economic recession and the terror attacks and what it means to the African Immigrant caught in the middle of all of this which can be hard to comprehend. Once again the trail-blazing skills of Kosi are going to be very well needed for a lot of us for navigating this land of seemingly endless opportunity, if approached the right way.
Excellent job. It easily makes 5-Stars!
