Shellfish Books

this book comes up in Amazon's search engine as a shell craft book. That is misleading, and if you buy it for that reason you will be dissappointed. The author does include a few blurbs about shell crafts and recipes. BUT, the vast majority of the book is a mid size, watercolor art book of various shells the author admires. The art work is lovely, and would be appreciated by a shell collector-but as pretty as the book is-content wise it's not more than just "eye candy".

So, if you're looking for shell crafts, education, or a shell guide-I'd say skip it. If you are looking for a lovely gift for the shell collection in your life then pick it up.

A beautifully illustrated book. A wonderful gift for an artist, a child, or seashore lover.

I purchased this book from the point of view of someone who cannot tolerate wheat gluten in my food. Unfortunately, I found this book to be completely worthless. As you can imagine, steak, potatoes and vegetables simply don't contain wheat gluten. If you are ordering onion rings, the batter may or may not contain wheat gluten so the book suggests asking the waiter. Few employees have read the ingredient list on the bag of batter or any other pre mixed ingredients.

The book recommends asking the waiter about potential gluten content for almost any food served in the restaurant. I prefer not to depend on a waiter who has 8 other tables to wait on, 3 dinners waiting to be delivered to 2 tables, who may not get along well with the cook and who may have had a fight with his wife before coming on duty - all of which affect his mood and judgment.

While the book contains typical ingredients contained in the Mexican recipes listed, Mexican food recipes differ from cook to cook - often even in the same restaurant. Again, the authors recommend asking the waiter if the foods contain certain ingredients.

Common sense is a far better guide than anything offered in this book.

Then you are provided with descriptions of each dish and how it is prepared and the ingredients used. From there you are provided with specific considerations as to how the preparation or ingredient list may affect you if you have gluten or food allergy issues.

I bought this little book because I am gluten intolerant and was traveling to Asia. I had hoped for lists of common food items I could eat or phrases to help me ask about what was safe and did not find the information I wanted.

It is very clear that this author knows and understands fish and shellfish. The reference materials about the different types of fish with nutritional information was very helpful.

However, this book is very difficult to use. One has to go to several different sections of the book to complete a dish. For instance you must first read the section and complete a fish fume in order to make a volute sauce, in which to complete the fish dish with a mornay sauce.

The setup of this book could be enhanced with page number references next to the ingredient that requires preparation from a receipt in another section of the book.

I am not unhappy to have this book in my collection simply for the reference information on the differenct seafoods. However, this book is not for a novice cook. Even for someone with advanced experience around the kitchen with excellent resources for fish and shellfish, this book falls short of my expectations for enjoyment of use, due to its difficulty in having a receipt's critial components on multiple pages.

Not really a very useful book. for the price I would have expected better.

This was the dumbest book I have ever read. It had no plot and did not intereest me. I recommend to everyone in the world that you do not read this gay book.
