Fish and Seafood Books

Like the author of this great book, I love to fish and enjoy preparing my catches for my family and friends. I've had this trusty volume since the mid-80's and still refer to it. It's encyclopedic in scope, covering everything from abalone to eels. I live on the west coast, so most of my experience with the recipes has been with preparing fish found in our waters (tuna, rockfish, shark, swordfish). The recipes in this book go well beyond the basics, yet they are sensible and straightforward to prepare. Using the recipe I found in the book, I made Gravalax Salmon for my family one Christmas after being inspired by a business trip to Sweden; the results were great, and all of the ingredients were things that I already had in my cupboards. This is in contrast to many current cookbooks whose recipes seem to be comprised of a long list of the exotic and hard-to-find. I'd strongly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fish!

No matter what the fish or what method of cooking, this book has it all. Even a complete novice can follow the instructions and cook fish with complete confidence. It not only tell you how to prepare specific fish dishes, but gives generic ideas for cooking "oily" or "lean" fish with very adaptable recipees for whatever fish is on hand.

I've now tried many of these elegant, creative recipes and they have all turned out great.

If you are like me, then you always want to cook up some seafood but aren't sure what type to buy or if the shellfish is fresh. This book covers all aspects of fish and Shellfish, from how to clean it to how to eat it. It describes all most every type of fish you can imagine and several ways to cook them up. It is truley and ENCYCLOPEDIA!

This is one of the best cookbooks I've ever come across (I have the British version.) Even fairly competent cooks are intimidated by fish. Apart from grilling them with a bit of lemon and parsley, what do you DO with these complex creatures? The first half of the book is a biology lesson - a listing of every fish and shellfish you can think of, a simple description of what it is, where it lives, what it tastes like and the best generalized ways of cooking it. Then there's a second half of recipes. These range from fairly simple to fiendishly but rewardingly time-consuming. I must have tried at least fifteen and all but one (octopus stew) has been absolutely sensational! The green curry, and the Moroccan tagine are real dinner-party conversation stoppers. I wouldn't usually take the time to write an amazon.com review, but I enjoy using this book so much I wanted to tell everyone how good it is.

This cookbook is great!!! I have prepared many recipes from this cookbook and my husband & I have enjoyed all of them!

I have LOTS of cookbooks and search for recipes on-line frequently, but this little book is the one I turn to again and again for wonderful, reliable, easy and delicious fish recipes every time. No matter what type of fish or what kinds of ingredients I have on hand, I can find a winner in this simple book. This is one of the least expensive cookbooks I own - and one of the best!

Very much on a par with Susan Hick's 'The Fish Course' (though maybe even more comprehensive), this excellent book by Ian McAndrew is a veritable encyclopedia of fish dishes. Beautifully illustrated, McAndrew covers the diverse subjects of choosing your fish (how to be sure it's fresh), preparation (handle with care and respect), cooking (NEVER overcook), and presentation (the side dishes and sauces that complete the meal).
If you plan presenting any fish dish, you'll not find a better book on the subject than 'A Feast of Fish', and I should know - I live in France, where food is revered before everything except wine!

This recipe book is great! The recipes are simple yet delicious! Most of the ingredients are common and are already found on hand in your kitchen. This book contains every kind of fish recipe imaginable. It has appetizers, main courses, microwave, pan-fry, and baked seafood dishes.

A friend of mine purchased the whole series of the Eurodelices cookbooks. I couldn't believe the price and the quality of these books. My favorite is this Fish & Seafood cookbook. The instructions are simple to follow, the pictures are excellent, the 2-page format arrangement is great. I love reading the commentary on each of the dishes. I was inspired by the creativeness of these cookbooks. And they make wonderful reading.
