Excellent selection of tasty, healthy food
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.

Many recipies in vegetarian cookbooks either require hours of preparation or have you pile some raw food and eat it or use ingredients that are difficult to find or expensive. This little gem of a cookbook (some dairy, but largely vegan) mostly uses stuff that you can find in any large supermarket. Each recipe comes with a detailed nutritional analysis for those counting grams of one thing or another. Everything I have tried has been delicious! Not only that but the meals were easy enough to fix that anybody who had home economics in junior high or even occasionally found herself/himself in an apron in the kitchen with Mom can prepare in maybe half an hour or less. Would make a nice gift for a student or someone convinced that vegetarian food is too difficult or boring.

I learned lots about how to actually cook in my microwave, and the recipes are fabulous and tasty. This is especially useful during those hot sultry days when you prefer not to create a lot of heat in your kitchen. I am planning to buy several copies as gifts! Thank you, Pat!

The next level...

After you've read John Robbins' "Diet for a New America", and digested it (pun intended) for a few months/years, it's time to read "Radical Vegetarianism". Mr. Braunstein will take your thinking and mentality about food, nutrition, and health to the next level. Sometimes caustic, often funny, and always intelligent and thought-provoking, this book is a great read and very inspiring.

These cookies are amazing! My entire family loves them, even those who are not raw. They can't believe that the ingredients of these cookies are so healthy. And the pictures, they make you want to try the recipes. I can't wait until I finish the batch I have so I can try another......keep writing books, you rock!!

A fantastic book for the raw food beginner.

I highly recommend this book for those just starting their journey into the world of raw food. No special equipment needed for these recipes. Plus, I can actually find the ingredients in a regular grocery store. The cucumber, celery, pistaschio salad was such a huge hit with the non-raw members of the family that it is a new staple. I'll convert them yet...

The best recipes I've EVER encountered!!!
Helpful Votes: 18 out of 19 total.

Recipes From the Moon is full of positively mouth-watering, healthful dishes. They are easy and quick to prepare and taste like they came from a gourmet restaurant, only with less fat, sodium, and cholestrol. Whereas the original Horn of the Moon Cookbook is loaded with recipes calling for butter, cheese, cream, and eggs, Recipes From the Moon holds back on these ingredients, substituting healthful alternatives without sacrificing taste. Recipes From the Moon is like a breath of fresh air. Now I not only enjoy cooking and eating, but I can feel confident that I'm not filling my body up with artery-clogging, blood pressure-raising food products. If you want to prepare healthful dishes without losing the taste, try Recipes From the Moon. If you're ever in Montpelier, VT, go to the Horn of the Moon Cafe, the very spot where these mouth-watering dishes were invented!!!

A really great cookbok
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2000-02-28
This is really an excellent cookbook. I've had it for about a year, and I've made several of the recipes in it for my friends and family, and gotten rave reviews every time. The recipes are all pretty time consuming, so they are best when you are entertaining and are willing to invest the time to get an extraordinary dinner. The recipes use all fresh ingredients (nothing canned or prepared) -- the pumpkin bisque is made from real pumpkins and the polenta is made from cornmeal. The recipes, though vegetarian, are mostly not vegan and not healthy, (lots of oil, cream, and/or cheese in most of them) but as I said before, it isn't an everyday cookbook to begin with, so the health factor is not a huge issue. If you like spicy food and occasionally make an elaborate meal, buy it, even if you aren't a vegetarian.

A friend gave this book to me before my first daughter was born over eight years ago. This book eased my fears about eating a healthy vegetarian diet while pregnant and raising a vegetarian child.
Rose Elliot gives comprehensive information about essential nutrients , where they are found and how to combine them.
Her meal plans and recipes help make living a healthy lifesyle in hectic times easy.
I love this book and I highly recommend this book to anyone!

A wonderful book, but strangely familiar...

This book is exactly, recipe for recipe, the same as the wonderful Veggie Chic, written just a few years ago by the same author. Veggie Chic has delicious, innovative vegetarian recipes; therefore, so does this paperback version. Buy one of the two, by all means, but don't be fooled by the inexplicable name change into buying them both!
