Before, I would always wonder why Bordeaux wine is so expensive. Many had told me that it was, indeed, superior. I am glad that Stephen Brook took the time to explain in common language, all the factors that have made this wine region such a "hot-spot" for the wine industry.
This book is not only a look at this wine region and it's wines, but a must read for all who are interested in the power structure of Europe, especially France.

I found this book to be amazing! The pictures by themselves make this book worth buying and reading. The text of the book is interesting and goes into the history and practice of bread making in France.
The recipes are wonderful, though not very formalized. However, having fun working through the recipes is what it is all about, n'est-ce pas?

Cereal. It's not just comfort food or for breakfast anymore. The "Breakfast of Champions" goes 24/7 with these recipes. But that's only part of the fun here. Also in the mix are fun facts: did you know that the average person consumes about 10 pounds - 160 bowls of cereal per year? or that "Breakfast cereals rank third in the list of grocery store items on which Americans spend their money, behind only carbonated beverages and milk - and ahead of bread, hamburger, and cigarettes?" That "the US cereal industry uses in excess of 800 million pounds of sugar per year, enough to coat every person with more than 3 pounds of sugar?" Or that, if you stick a magnet in any "iron-fortified" cereal, black fuzzy iron will stick to it? The physics of the famous snap, crackle, pop? Accompanying all these mind blowing, teeth-decaying facts are grand, simply grand, photos of cereal boxes and commercials from those Saturday Baby Boomer mornings in front of the TV. And, oh yeah, recipes for Cap'n Crunch crabcakes, nutty Apple (Jack-ed) Bleu Cheese Terrine, Trix lemon yellow and orange orange meringue pie in a glass, and much much more.

Very informative and detailed history of brewing in the state made famous by the craft of German immigrants. Short histories of the major breweries of Wisconsin fill in the trivia gaps any beer buff may have. Includes many historical pictures of Blatz, Schlitz, Pabst, Walter, Oshkosh, Mathie-Ruder, Gettelman, and of course, Miller. The listing of all known brewery buildings still standing in Wisconsin is espescially helpful for guiding the weekend roadtrip. Viewing these historical structures is a great way to imagine the brewing industry of the past 150 years. Highly recommended for anyone interested in beer, from the history afficionado, to the basement homebrewer.

A delightful read and truly a work of passion. Completely packed with articles and details, photos of long-defunct beer brands, and tales. My only regret is that in producing this spiral-bound book himself, Dr. Musson used photocopying which loses some detail of the wonderful historical graphics. Its layout, done by the author, is a bit quirky...but it's all part of the fun. What a magnificent effort. It can be contrasted with Bob Skilnik's Brewing History of Chicago (Part 1), a polished book professionally published...Dr. Musson's material is as interesting. A great treat for thos eof us who enjoy brewing history.

I have an original copy of this wonderful book. You will find pinches and dashes and teacups for measurements in this volume. It even tells how to stoke the fire! I make the bread pudding recipe and it is a favorite with my family. In using this book you might have to do some trial and error for the degrees and the measurments for the recipes. For example Tea cups usually hold 4oz and not 8oz. It true fun for the kitchen, and the housekeeping is an interesting look at yesteryear. And we think that housework is hard now...NO WAY!!!!

This is a fun and interesting book about the Presidents. It was funny to read about LBJ and how he tried to sneak into the kitchen when he was on a diet but got caught by Lady Bird. I loved the quiz at the end of the book that tells you which President has the same favorite foods as you do. It's definitely a book that the whole family can enjoy. And it makes learning history fun.

I have been searching for a book for a long time that will explain where most of our Christmas traditions originate. This is it. The book by DeeAnn Mandryk is not only fascinating to read but also provides all the answers to the questions I always had.
An absolute must for everyone who wanted to know everything about Christmas traditions.
