I found this book to be a bit of a disappointment. For the record, I love their original book Fired Up! and use many of the methods described and recipes therein. This new cookbook seems more focused on tweaks to the recipes in the first book and overly elaborate new recipes. Buy their first book and you will have no regrets.

Turning Up the Heat on Cooking

This is unique cookbook. Not only its unique recipe collection but its illustrations as well.

The premise is about fire. Fire in the heat of the food, fire in the creativity of the chefs, fire that almost burned the restaurant down via a mop saved by a female employee.

From beginning to end this is out of ordinary cookbook.

Check out recipes like: Texas Hill Country Wild Game Paella (featuring duck and rabbit); Chicken Fired Antelope with a Red Eye Gravy; American Bison Stuffed with a Blackened Turkey Tenderloin; Iced Passion Fruit and Raspberry Soup topped with a Rain Forest Ceviche; Cocunut Curry Soup with Smoked Duck; Buffalo Quail Riding Jalapeno Cheese Gritsl Roger's Margarita Passion Fruit Tart Pie.

Indicative why so many flock to this Austin Hill Country spot, the likes of Lance Armstrong, etc. This is fired up food with an attitude!

Received as a gift, and will cook out of this! One to check out.

Anybody that sifts through this book will quickly see that it isn't your everyday average cookbook with simple ingredients, but that is what makes this so amazing. Highly recommended for people interested in unique techniques, ingredients, combinations, and bold flavors. A great book that is well put together, contains plenty of alternatives and recommendations for substituting hard to find ingredients and is well illustrated. Perfect for an adventurous cook and tons of fun to read through and prepare recipes from.

This is a super book - it has a bit of everything and there are great pictures throughout to inspire. Just to wet your appetite here are a few of the recipes:
appetizers: grilled tofu with miso sauce, tomato and olive oil bruschetta, peanut tomatoes
grilled veggies: greek marinated veggies, bell peppers, potatoes with capers, foil baked mushrooms, veggies with tahini dressing, spiced corn
kabobs : (all sorts) satay, kabobs, oriental skewers
main meals: here there are recipes for the grilled begeatbles plus what to do with them like putting them over a bed of noodles etc.

Quite a bit of cheese listed so not a vegan cookbook but you can adapt most of the recipes.

Grill It Vegetarian

The first line of the book reads, "Drain anchovies, reserving oil, and chop." I would just like to point out that calling for fish in the first line is not starting out right for a book that claims to be vegetarian!

An outstanding vegetarian cookbook

Of all the vegetarian cookbooks my wife and I own and use, none of them get used as much as this one does. Our copy is greasy with stains and splatters from the countless times we've mixed and cooked right next to it, studying its every word and its delicious-looking photographs.
The dishes are phenomenonly good, easy to make, and easy to make non-grill variations on. The mint falafel and the grilled eggplant salad are especially unforgettable, and even our non-vegetarian friends request that we make them when they come over to visit.
The book's instructions are easy to follow, and every recipe has appetizing photos of what the finished meal will look like. Buy it, enjoy it, and eat up. Few books taste this good.

A charming cookbook

Recipes are fairly simple, which greatly enhances the probability that the reader will actually use them. Also the recipes aren't so many, which is good since you just need a few good ones, not an confusing endless array of them. Food is put in a context in a humorous way, which is a nice bonus.

The charm of the book made it one of my favorite cookbooks after the first five (thick) pages.

I bought the book for mysel, but I think it would also make a great gift.

The Redneck Grill: The Most Fun You Can Have With Fire, Characoal, And A Dead Animal: it would do equally well in our humor section, but is featured here for its very serious barbecue recipes, from grilled rabbit to maple-grilled pound cake. Add a layer of saucy Foxworthy redneck humor and Southern spice and an exceptionally handy 'glazed hardcover' format with spill-proof pages and you have a book readily accessible by the 'que.

Not particularly amusing. Does, however, provide some different cooking results from the normal. I'm not certain I would get another one if mine disappeared.

If you use the freshest ingredients and love to BBQ this book is for you. The recipes appeal to seafood and meat lovers alike. Best of all the directions are concise and to the point. I don't like complicated and numerous steps to make a dish...especially for the grill. No worries when you select this book.

One of my favorite cookbooks

This is one of my favorite cookbooks! Every recipe I've tried is fabulous and I've made some of them so often that I have them memorized.

Personally, I don't have any problems reading the text in this cookbook. Yes the print is tiny, but what do size text do you expect in a book that's only 6 inches tall? I really like the compact size because it's easy to take with me to the grocery store and shop for ingredients.

The recipes are simple and use ingredients that you can find at the grocery store. Most recipes are no more than 5 or 6 steps and include photos of some of them. I love this because I'm a visual person and I like to see what I need to do instead of just reading about it. There is also a beautiful, full page color picture of the final product so you have an idea of what the finished product should look like and how you can present it.

Tiny font mars an otherwise good concept

The size of the book, colour pictures, everything about this book -- were really good -- and I liked the concept that it was designed to be small enough to take to the store when shopping for ingredients, BUT I would have to also take a magnifying glass too, to read the tiny print! Sorry, but this is just not on.

I just did not find any of these recipes interesting to me. They require too much time, to much preperasion, too many ingredients that I do not stock, and the portions are more then I am willing to eat by myself. But for a family or couple in an apartment, I think it gives some good ideas for nice meals.

I purchased this along with Southern Living 40 Years of Our Best Recipes the week before Labor Day and it was delivered within a couple days. This was my first BBQ cookbook and will probably be my only one as I am still reading and finding awesome recipes I want to try. My contribution to our Labor Day cookout was four recipes from this cookbook: Tropical Smoothies, Four-Hour Barbecue, Grilled Asparagus and Honey Barbecue Sauce (which I used on babyback ribs and chicken quarters). ALL of them were a HUGE hit and the cookbook was passed around during the cookout. I have purchased two additional sets as birthday gifts and the recipients have raved about the new recipes they are anxious to try, especially from this BBQ cookbook. I also shared this BBQ cookbook with some of my co-workers and they all want their own copy (I'm not letting this one out of my sight for very long). The recipes are not complicated and so far, have provided wonderful results.

There are other helpful tidbits in the front of the cookbook that were interesting to me: There is a fairly decent list of BBQ places and BBQ events to visit across the country so now I can build my travel plans around those places/events. Reading the grilling tips in the front has even inspired me to purchase a smoker. Although it is a paperback version and may not be able to withstand my constant reading and use, I am very excited about this cookbook and will definitely be using these recipes year-round.

Great meat recipies with great tips. Broken into sections by countries Germany and some of the less published countries had some creative options. There were more than a few new to the grill recipies and great ideas for exploration. The Italian and French recipies were quick stepping stones to the fun food. I would have liked to see a few more "grilling" recipies for vegatables and side dishes. Overall some tasty options.
