I have an earlier edition of this cookbook (circa 1969), and I have used it over, and over again for basic, fail-proof recipes. I have recently purchased this book for my 56-year old brother who is divorced and doesn't know a spatula from a sieve. He has made several things from this cookbook, and tells me he is so happy to expand his cooking repetroire beyond chili, hot dogs and frozen pizza! As a gift, this cookbook is great for newlyweds and anyone else who needs an introduction to the joys of the stove!

This cookbook is full of recipes that reads like your mom's sticky, well-loved recipe box. I haven't found anything ground breaking, but that's not really why I purchased it. Although I am already an experienced cook, I've had so much success with BHG recipes in the past that when I saw this new updated edition I decided to add it to my cookbook collection. It's got lots of illustrations of both recipes and techniques. When I first received it I settled back in my favorite chair, snuggled up in an afghan, and browsed through the whole thing. So often I saw a recipe that I recalled eating at a party, picnic, shower, etc. I think BHG is very All-American and this cookbook reflects the foods we've come to know and love. That's not to say it is just a collection of old-fashioned foods. There were plenty of new recipe ideas I've come across, too, but there' nothing too exotic, too expensive, or too difficult for the typical busy but food loving American. A lot of the recipes are good for rushed week day dinners, but they're better than throwing a can of soup on chicken and instant rice and calling it dinner. I've only had it a few weeks but I have already made several recipes from it and they have all been straightforward and a hit with family and friends. This is probably the cookbook I will recommend for my sons, who are 20 and 22, when they move out on their own. FYI: I would recommend this ring bound edition. I first purchased the plastic comb edition but returned it in exchange for the ring bound edition. The paper in the plastic comb edition was very thin and the plastic comb was so tight that page turning was going to forever be a very delicate affair. The ring bound is only a few dollars more, but unless you are very careless there doesn't seem to be much chance of tearing.

This is the first cookbook I've read that's a page-turner--I found myself flipping ahead to the comments and reflections by Dr. Eichner and many members of his family: a family drama is revealed through recipes and the memories they inspire. Eichner's encouraging tone and unpretentious style are really appealing. His recipes are simple and his appreciation for home-cooked food is inspiring. I'm making soup again these days, and have fallen in love with the chocolate cake and semolina cake.

This is a cookbook I want to give everyone in my family, some new cooks, some not so new. Dr. Eichner's simple but sound nutritional advice, along with playful recipes, uncomplicated cooking and eating philosophy makes cooking well seem easier, and eating right more fun. The addition of personal thoughts on food, eating and cooking from Dr. Eichner's family gives this cookbook an intimate and thoughtful touch. It is an easy going but helpful hand in the kitchen.

Like all great cookbooks, this is a good deal more than a collection of recipes--it's an attempt to embody a philosophy of intimacy through the shared experience of meals. First and foremost, the recipes are wonderful. But what makes the book so moving and so surprising are the short essays in between, tracing the development of certain dishes to particular times in the life of the author's large, variegated family. By the end of the book you feel you have entered a world through the kitchen door, and have no wish to leave.

"Nosthimia" is the Greek word for delicious and this cookbook is filled with just that: delicious appetizers, soups, salads, main dishes, desserts and so many other amazing recipes. I enjoyed this book on a number of levels from the recipes themselves, to the small side stories scattered throughout the book. I have tried a number of the recipes with my mother and I would like to share a couple of them with you. "Georgia's Famous Baklava with Olive Oil" was a fairly simple recipe to make and is absolutely delicious. Once you try it, you will find yourself flipping to that page quite often! Another recipe, "Hamburgers Stuffed with Feta Cheese", is an unexpected twist to your usual Memorial Day cookout of hamburgers and hot dogs. This Greek Style hamburger is very delicious and I hope you give it a try. This cookbook is one of a kind. It allows you to experience the foods of the Greek culture while still having an American touch in terms of the time involved and the nutritious content in each of the recipes. I hope you give the book a try because I think you'll agree that it is filled with "Nosthimia" foods.

Nosthimia! is excellent. The recipes are easy to make yet delicious, just like the recipes that Georgia makes on her tv show. Unlike many other cookbooks, the ingredients can be easily found in almost any local supermarket. I was happily surprised that I didn't have to make a trip to a specialty market. I made several of the recipes for a dinner party including the feta cheese triangles and chicken stuffed grape leaves. I have to say that both recipes were delicious and my guests loved them.
I plan on using this cookbook on a regular basis. The recipes are delicious and provide just a hint of exotic Greek flavors. As an avid cook and cookbook purchaser, this is one of the best new cookbooks on the market.

These recipes are simple enough for weeknight cooking, but they are delicious and quite good enough for entertaining as well. I recently served the 'appetizer meatballs' and 'kalamata olive spread' at a small gathering. The meatballs vanished in short order and the olive spread tempted several folks who 'don't like olives' to give them another chance. I substituted aleppo pepper for the black pepper but otherwise made these recipes exactly as printed. The spanakopita recipe has a much shorter ingredient list than my usual one, and includes fennel, which mine doesn't. As much as I like my old recipe, I like Georgia's better and will stick with it. My favorite thing about Nosthimia is the ease of preparation compared to some other Greek cookbooks I've used. This book is full of recipes for tasty, nourishing food that won't take hours to prepare but will fill your house with tempting aromas and satisfy your hunger.
Anyone can cook Greek with this one!

I expected long complicated lists of recipe ingredients and intricate steps. Not so! The lists were short and the instructions were about as simple as possible. Some grocery stores may not stock all the ingredients as few as they are so you may have to shop around or order online. Very easy and healthy cooking!

Georgia Sarianides has owned and operated several successful restaurants in her career, as well as running her own cooking school. For the past five years she has hosted the cable television show "Cooking with Georgia". In Nosthimia!: The Greek American Family Cookbook, Georgia has distilled the best of what she knows about Greek cuisine into a compilation of truly mouth-watering dishes. From My Mother's Village-Style Veal Soup (Horiatiki Soupa); to Aromatic Grilled Chicken with Wine (Aromatiki Kota sta Karvouna); to Calzone Stuffed with Meat (Kaltsounia Gemista me Kima), Nosthimia! offers 185 recipes that are truly delicious (nosthimia)!

His new cake recipe book gives a vast range of ways to take a familiar pound cake and make it into something that can satisfy nearly everyone's dessert tastes and need for something special. My wife and I will be trying out these recipes for years to come. This dessert book is definitely different and a welcome addition to our kitchen.

Who knew I was famous? But there I am, right there in the introduction. I'm the one always bringing the same dessert when I go out because that's the recipe I know by heart. But no more! I feel like I'm learning how to bake like a pro. This cookbook gives me the tools to be creative and infinitely adaptable just by mastering one simple but elegant recipe.
The directions are simple and straightforward, accompanied by warm stories and good bit of humor. Each new recipe flows naturally from the last, and I'm already coming up with creative new twists.
I highly recommend this cookbook for anyone who wants to increase his or her dessert repertoire painlessly.

I picked up this book a few years ago while visiting a friend in Houston. There are so many good recipes in here, I don't even know where to begin! Lots of basic, easy to make Texas-style and Tex-mex recipes, plus a smattering of exotic wild game dishes. But it's not just the recipes that make this book -- the author, Linda West Eckhardt -- has filled the pages with humorous stories and factoids about the Texas lifestyle.

My husband received this book from a relative after his first wife died and he had to raise two children alone. He used this cookbook constantly. The first time he ever cooked dinner for me, he made the Biscuit Casserole. Delicious! When we married, I began to use the book, too. Some of our family's favorites were Biscuit Casserole, Swiss Chicken, Honey Chicken, Teriyaki Chicken. . . (I still make the Swiss Chicken when I want to really impress someone and I always come across as a gourmet cook!) In 2003 we lost our home in a fire and it took me a long time to find another copy. Now I use it frequently again, making the same things as before and trying new ones (Tamale Pie tonight). I haven't tried anything that isn't delicious. The only negative is that the book was written so long ago that a "large" jar of Ragu sauce has a different meaning these days, so you will have to do some experimentation re: size. If the book is ever printed again, it would be good to have actual sizes of ingredients listed, plus sizes of cooking pans and the number of people a recipe will feed.
This book has endured for years.

Most conventional recipes are as long as our weekly grocery list. The culinary measuring divices alone were a load of dishes! It is no wonder we had most delivery resturants on speed dial. The Original 4 Ingredient Cookbook was given to us as a gift. The daunting task of preparing a meal at home is no longer an insurmountable challenge. You look at the page and say "I can DO that!" I recommend this book to anyone who is too busy to "hunt and gather" before preparing a meal.

Being recently reestablished as a single and relocated adult I need all the help I can get in rebuilding both my social graces and enviroment. A small lakeside cabin in rural Georgia does not match the authors isolation in bush Alaska. However, similar challenges of supply and storage do exist. It's 50 miles to the nearest Sam's or Costco. Not over snow and ice covered tundra, but over even more dangerous back roads and freeways into downtown Atlanta. Ms. Easley's book has been a great help not only in planning and purchasing, but most certainly in presentation.

Warehouse Cookbook is a beautiful work of art, and I am sure also a labor of love which all cooks can appreciate! I think that the recipes sound wonderful. In fact, I have just purchased two of the books, one to give as a gift! On the final page of the book, ideas are requested by the author. I love to cook and especially hunt for books that focus on low-cost, frugal cooking. The idea of focusing on warehouse shopping is excellent! My only suggestion, however, is that I would really love to see more day to day practical insights & how to's on a daily basis with daily type foods such as those that are hinted on pages 8 & 9, Ingredient Cooking Secrets. I would love to see a monthly menu with monthly family recipes included, like the recipe for meatloaf, and a grocery list to go along. The idea of how to utilize a box of Costco tomatoes is excellent. I would like recipes and breakdowns on many items to make cooking lowcost and affordable for families. Hope this is helpful. It is sent in not to criticize, because the book is truly a beautiful cookbook that I will treasure. But, rather, it is sent to encourage because Paula Easley obviously has alot to share with others. Also, I would love to know more about her adventures and life in Alaska. I hope Paula publishes a second book because I would surely purchase it!

Hi, I'm Paula Easley's nephew, Kale. I just wanted to say that this is a very good book. I looked through it, and I have to say that it looks good. My step-dad edited it, and he said he thought it was really good, too. I even asked my little 2-year-old sister what she thought, and she said "yes" she liked it. Then she said,"Go away. I reading the newspaper. You be really quiet."

We have used this cookbook for years and continue to go back to it again and again for our favorite and new recipes alike. I'd recommend this to anyone who is looking for not-too-complicated recipes that are delicious! Favorites are the Red Snapper with Black Bean Salsa and the French Pepper Steak - two recipes we have made dozens of times.

I have enjoyed preparing many of the recipes. Most are very easy to follow and the end results very tasty. The complete menus at the back of the book provide guidance when planning a dinner party. The fact that 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the cookbook is donated to the comunity makes this a favorite cookbook.

This is one of the finest cookbooks I've ever seen for cookies. The collection is divided into drop, hand-formed, refrigerator, rolled, bars/brownies, holiday and Bake-Off favorite cookies. With an introductory section on "cookie know-how" and margin hints, tips, and information, this collection is not only informative, but a pleasure to thumb through. Most recipes have variations listed immediately after, so if you don't care for ingredients in the basic recipe you are given several suggestions how to tailor it to your liking. Many color photos, easy to follow ingredient lists, numbered steps and nutritional breakdown round out the detail given in this book. A must for any cookie baker.

I'm so glad I found this book! Every recipe I tried so far has been spectacular and so tasty that it disappeared in a minute!
The recipes are laid out really well, with clear step by step instructions and lots of reference "tags" to give more information about ingredients or interesting substitutions or even "make it special" suggestions to dress up your creations.
The recipes are really easy, but the results can make people think you spent the whole day in the kitchen. I tried both of the recipes pictured on the cover and they got rave reviews, without being much fuss. And the others were not too difficult either.
The book is divided into sections for rolled, dropped, bar cookies and so on, making it easy to find what you feel like making. There are very nice and yummy pictures of many recipes to give you an idea of the results.
Maybe the only negative thing is that these recipes are all very rich and not good at all if you are counting calories or have health problems, but I guess you are not supposed to make cookies, if you are on a diet :P! They all have nutritional information, though, so at least you can choose the less "sinful" ones.
The sidebars explaining the different ingredients are very informative and can help you with recipes from other books, too, of course.
I tried a few recipes from this book and it has already become a favourite! Highly recommended.

Being stuck in Dallas without a large quantity of great Italian food is not good. With this book my husband has learned to make great crusts. With some fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella and pancetta our friends say, "I think that this is the best pizza I've ever eaten!"
Lots of good stuff in here!

I bought this book because I absolutely love focaccia, but am forever spoiled by the ease of the bread machine. This book brings the two together beautifully! I made the Pesto Focaccia first, because I make my own pesto every summer and freeze it, and this was a great way to make use of it. It turned out really well, and it feels good to hear "Oh my gosh, this is great!" when you try something new! I can't wait to try some of the stuffed pizza recipes, they sound wonderful. The recipes are well written, instructions are clear, and there are a couple of very helpful sections in the beginning that go over equipment, ingredients and "Secrets for Success". There are also lots of hints throughout the book, in fact, there is one after almost every recipe. I also liked the fact that the book is spiral bound, yet hardcover. It lays flat for easy reference, which I found convenient. The only drawback is the lack of pictures. I am a sucker for a cookbook with LOTS of pictures, and I really missed them in this one.

The Rustic Sourdough Focacia is great (though I make it in a baking pan instead of a cookie sheet - it's just too loose and thin otherwise)! Add some camelized onions to the top to make it even better.
