I love this book. It's a novel, but the facts are taken from a journal of a homesteader. The author uses real names of people who lived there. My grandparents, Lenore and Nephi Otteson are some of the characters in the story. It's exciting to learn a little more about what their lives mights have been like. We live in the Ammon/Lincoln area where a lot of the story takes place and are familiar with the Ozone area. This is a great book and a very fun read.

I had to read this book for a class I was taking at a university. My first thought was, "Not another assigned book to read!" After I started it, I could not put it down. I was going through a divorce at the time and this book validated everything I was feeling. The book discusses singleness and its role in the lives of several women. It also points out the role society has on women who are single. It is a great book! Single or not!

A book about the start of a good life, give us more!

This book by David Clark Paul is about the very good start of a very good life. This book tells the way it was through the eyes and ears of a man who chronicles his experiences before he went to serve in World War II, before he went to Trinity College then to Yale College, and before he was ordained a minister. The author has an eye for detail. He distinctly remembers and describes farm operations seldom recorded elsewhere. He gives an account of digging a well in solid limestone rock with blasting powder. He tells from memory what it was like to work as a member of a threshing crew. He gives many details about growing and harvesting cotton, all "six miles to town" on the farm in Ellis County Texas in the Buena Vista Community. The story of the neighbor boy Froncell and his family is particularly heart warming and profound. I hope he publishes more of his works.
