"Find Your Spinach" is a quick read with a very simple message. Most of the time most people (including me) are moving through life too darn quick and fail to step back reflect upon the question "what is my purpose in life?". "Find Your Spinach" presents a simple story to help you address this question head on so you can get off the spinning treadmill of life and at the very least help you reflect on what is truly important to you. The book only takes a couple hours to read. When you find your Spinach it will last a lifetime and beyond!

I've changed... can you?

"Find Your Spinach" found me at a very odd period of my life. I was working full-time... and yet I wasn't fulfilled. I was in a fantastic relationship... and yet I wasn't fulfilled. I had a great apartment in a great city... and yet I wasn't fulfilled. I had wonderful friends and family and yet I wasn't fulfilled.

After laughing (and crying) my way through "Find Your Spinach" I hugged my boyfriend and went to sleep feeling more comfortable in my own skin and knowing that I loved myself despite of my flaws. The next morning I woke up stronger, quit my job and was on my way to being ME! I took risks... and loved every minute of it! I have a wonderful new career... I'm engaged to be married... I own a home...

This book is for anyone who wants to find themselves; enhance themselves, fine tune themselves, tweek themselves, love themselves, cherish themselves - MORE!

Find YOUR Spinach...! You'll be so glad that you did!

...than "Now Everybody Really Hates Me". I think we've all been here. And once again, Roz Chast's illustrations practically tell the story themselves. Seeing Joy reading "Perfect Girl" magazine and going, "La la la" while she practices her hobby of folding shirts is worth the price right there.

But how does what Patty Jane did to the spinach make it palatable?

A welcomed change from the typical vegetarian cookbook

This book is far more than a cookbook on dark green leafy vegetables. As a strict vegetarian, I am always in search of good vegetarian recipes. After a while, the cookbooks all start to look the same. This book stands out in that it not only gives a lot of good info. on buying, preparing and storing green veggies but talks of the many different kinds of greens and provides some innovative recipes for preparing them. It provides simple, unique recipes for using greens in soups, stir fries, sandwiches and wraps as well as some great healthy salad dressings and dips. The book is clear, easy to read and provides great recipes that include ingredients you can easily find and prepare.

A Brilliant and Not Well-Known Graphic Novel
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-09-29
Frederic Boilet has created an amazing work about a French artist living in Japan (like him) and his Japanese girlfriend and muse (apparently like his gal at the time). It's lyrical, beautiful, haunting, and like very little else out there. The art is lovely, photo realistic, and extremely inventive in it's visual storytelling i.e. how the distance from us the viewer (close-up, long shot, etc.,), lighting, and angle of the point of view of each panel works with all of these factors in the panels before it, after it, and on the whole page (whew! For more on this See Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud).

But the story is the real star here. This is another one of the increasingly growing list of graphic novels that someone who's never read one can enjoy to the fullest. It's hard to portray a wonderful relationship without getting maudlin and Boilet shows us a love between two people that is, though not without problems, beautiful.

One last thing -- as beautiful as the art is here, this type of slavish photorealism is becoming tiresome. It seems that anyone with Photoshop can become a comics artist these days whether they know how to draw or not. And artists like Tony Harris and Alex Maleev deprive us of their ample drawing skills by using photo reference in every panel they draw. Rant over.

Buy this and anything by Boilet you can. Highly recommended.

Ask for the recipe of these poems. Take the plain-spoken disclosure of the Confessionalists, pour into the informed line-sense of the Formalists, season with wit, secret love of the Metaphysical poets, & serve. Phillips doesn't ask that you do extensive background checks on his references, though he does allow himself familiarities with Miss Moore of the tricorner hat, icons of New York City's literary past, & other remarks which may challenge some reader's sense of easy access. Not to fear. If this is the first book you read that introduces you to the world of high literary comradery, you couldn't ask for a nicer host.
