THIS IS THE STORY OF THE NEW YORK JETS, HOW FAILURE AFTER FAILURE HAS FILLED THEIR HISTORY. THIS STORY DESCRIBES IN GREAT DETAIL THE FEW SUCESSFUL SEASONS AND THE MANY DISAPPOINTING AND TOTALLY PAIN FILLED ONES. THE AUTHOR DOES A GREAT JOB DESCRIBING AND INTERVIEWING THE PEOPLE WHO WERE DURING THESE DISASTEROUS TIMES. FROM WEEB AND JOE TO THE COMING OF THE TUNA, THIS BOOK HELD MY INTEREST AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS FOR ALL FOOTBALL FANS, I FEEL THE JETS PAIN.

This is a well-written history of the New York Jets. It covers the one great accomplishment (Super Bowl III) and the many failures and disappointments. As a fan you love the team and always get your hopes even though you know they will dash them in the end. This book covers those emotions well.

Being a Jet fan can be painful, but fun !

Gerry gave a very honest account of the New York Jets.

You'll enjoy the stories of the early years. Recounting the selling of season tickets from the apartment of one of the original owners, Walt Michaels finding a "good practice field" while flying home from a game (it was located on the grounds of a NYC prison), the press' examination of Joe Namath's knee in the restroom of a local restaurant and many others.

Those who were at that dreadful Miami comeback at the Meadowlands in 1994 will relive that sick feeling in the pit of their stomachs.

Parcells has come and gone and we still don't have another appearance in the Super Bowl. This book might expain why.

But we return each season with high hopes of reaching the big game. Reading Mr. Eskenazi's book will remind all of us of the pain we go through to have some fun on a sunny Sunday afternoon in the Meadowlands (NJ).

Along came Bill Parcells and New York thought its troubles were over. Last year we were a half hour from the Superbowl and now we're in the cellar again. If you find yourself scratching your head and asking why. This book has the answers--the history of the Gang Green struggle and where we went wrong.

I agree, every orthopaedic patient should leave the hospital with this book! My only wish is that I'd had it sooner after discharge. Helps with topics other titles just don't cover, like flying while disabled, etc.

Useful Detail for Learning

Review Date: 2005-04-05
Much of the book is dedicated to getting around on crutches. Under "Fitting of Crutches" Pryor states "All too frequently crutches are fitted improperly - generally too long - even by trained personnel." This is exactly what happened to me. I was nearly falling off the crutches every "swing-through" step. I fitted the crutches per instructions. By the next day I had the swing-through step down. By the next week I was successfully practising "non-weight bearing" stair climbing. This made a huge difference to me as my bedroom is on the second floor and the kitchen and living room are on the bottom floor. The detail of the book is wonderful for doing things the first (few) times. Keep re-reading. All that detail makes perfect sense when you are learning. Some of the hints are counter-intuitive and this saves you the trouble of doing it wrong or getting discouraged and giving up. I really wish the hospital had given me this book.

I've bought this and other books regarding knee rehab etc. and found this one is great if you want to find out how to maximise the use of critches after your surgery. There is very little information on what you need to do for rehab.

If your looking for a book to help you get about on crutches after surgery, it covers every thing from climbing stairs to driving!, try this one.

So you're looking for an alternative to pill popping ? Now that's a change! I'm in awe of people who think it it's ok to take a pill to prevent something that they think is going to happen - for example, a friend mentioned that she needs to take a strong pain pill (I won't mention the name here) because she "may" get back pain. That's not what pills were made for. If you worry about the side effects of even the mildest drugs, then this book is for you. I hate taking any kind of medication, and am always on the lookout for alternatives to medication. Give me an herb or a fruit, or vegetable, and tell me to take that for a medical problem, and I'll happily give it a try!

I like this book because it's filled with information on various natural remedies. There's a reason God created these herbs and plants - for us or the animals to use them to cure ourselves. Sure, we can't cure everything, but this book certainly shows you how to "cure" or control many, many problems. I highly recommend it!

Another one I love is "Back to Eden" by Jethro Kloss.

Green Wilma is an adoring, rhyming tale of a girl who wakes up one morning and discovers she is green. This story is full of bright colors that fill the pages of this book and show the personality of the characters by illustrating the eyes bulging out of their heads. This book expresses the talent of children's imagination. Your children will love the characters and the silly illustrations that give hints about Wilma's metamorphosis. The ending was a surprise because something happened that I would have never expected. Green Wilma is a sweet childish book that your children will adore.

After reviewing the book called Green Wilma, I discovered it was not only a satisfying book but one which made my eyes water and lurch out from their sockets. This book is about a young girl, Wilma who wakes up one morning with an appetite for flies and soon discovers she is a green amphibian. Her parents, feet trembling on the floor, appear scared half to death by Wilma's slimy, green, new texture. Rebelling against her parent's orders, Wilma goes to school and ruins other kid's appetites by her repulsive act of devouring filthy, many-eyed flies. As I easily turned each page filled with detailed illustrations, the hilarious book approached the end. This book, even with me being a picky reviewer, I rate at 4.5 stars. Why, because my only unanswered question is, how does Wilma turn into a frog anyway? If the author would explain this phenomenon, I would gain more understanding of the book's main character, Wilma. The book Green Wilma, funny and entertaining, in my opinion is a book recommended to children and adults as well.

Review Date: 2006-09-14
The writing in Green Wilma was like a baby's board book. There were only three or four words on a page. The language, simple, unappealing, and childish, did not earn my liking. The book, absolutely no phrases contained in it, made me get really mixed up while reading it. It was hard to understand and hard to know what's happening with no phrases.

The pictures, simple images of people with bulging eyes, did not go with the story. The story was carefully written to rhyme, while the pictures were sloppily done. The people in the pictures have huge eyes, tiny bodies, tiny legs and arms. Because of these exaggerated features, I did not enjoy looking at them.

Green Wilma was very confusing in the ending. Something happens where the girl (Wilma) is chasing a fly into a pond. She jumps after it, catches it, and falls into the pond. Then the text says all frogs know better than to sit on a log while dreaming and there's a picture with a frog on a log. I think it is confusing because I wasn't sure if there's just a frog dreaming on a log or if there's really a girl named Wilma. Overall, I give this book three stars out of five stars. by Alina

NEVER FORGET...LEST IT SHOULD HAPPEN AGAIN...

Review Date: 2008-05-01
This is a superlative story of two German families, one Jewish, one Aryan, caught in the insanity that was to tear Germany and the world apart. The Weiss family, more German than Jewish, would soon discover just how Jewish they really were, when the Nazi regime was firmly in place. The Dorf family, would find themselves with new opportunities under the Nazi regime, if only they would subscribe to the new Germany.

The fates of these two families artfully unfold through parallel stories, one told by Rudi Weiss, the other told by Erik Dorf. Through Rudi, an athletic, young man who refused to kowtow to the Nazis and, instead, became a partisan, the reader learns of the fate of the Weiss family, a family that was in denial as to what lay in store for them . Through Eric Dorf, a pleasant, young lawyer with an ambitious wife, the readers discovers how Eric becomes embroiled in the upper echelons of the Nazi regime, and how he transitions from being a rational human being to one that strains to find a rationale for the atrocities that he now affirmatively endorses.

This is a beautifully told saga, filled with the pain that was felt by those whose lives were torn asunder by the Nazis. What is also interesting about the book is that it includes depictions of Germans who did not support the policies of the Nazis and did what they could to thwart them. Those with an interest in the holocaust will love this book. It is a spellbinding work of fiction. Bravo!

This book was also made into a wonderful mini series for NBC in the late nineteen seventies. It was faithful to the novel and boasted an excellent cast, including a young Meryl Streep in the role of Inga Helms, the young German, Catholic woman who married Rudi's brother, Karl (James Woods). Michael Moriarty was perfectly cast as Erik Dorf. Rudi Weiss was played by Joseph Bottoms. Fritz Weaver, Tom Bell, Rosemary Harris, David Warner, Tovah Feldshuh, and Sam Wanamaker round out this stellar cast. It comes as no surprise that this superb production won eight (8) Emmy Awards. I saw it on television and was riveted!

The destiny of two families - the Weiss and the Dorf - in touch at the beginning of the story but antagonist later are the main frame of this story in which the life of both families change roles; the Weiss, a middle high class family went down as a consequence of the nazi anti-jew laws and the Dorf, a poor unemployed couple that went up socially because of their adherence to the national socialism ideology.
Throughout the novel, the tale of Rubi, the sole survivor of the Weiss and the diary of Erik Dorf, the reader find out how the jews were deprived of their civil rights and citizenship, segregated, empoverished, persecuted, forced to live in guettos and finally exterminated in concentration camps as a final solution to the "jew problem" by the nazis who profited and enriched with the confiscated fortune, properties and slave force of the jews and the plundering of war as part of the hate policy against everybody considered non arian.
Very interesting the dialogue of both side of the story in which the reader can go deep into the thoughts of the antagonists and how the families face their situation and fate. Recommended for people interested in WWII and the holocaust.

To those of us growing up now; with no first-hand knowledge of the Holocaust; to those of us uninterested in our history as humans; and to those of us who will make the decisions in the future...I recommend this book, maybe more than any other I have read. I have been to the camps, have seen the ovens, the barracks...but they are just things, gruesome things, to be sure, but things. It is the people who did the acts of the Holocaust that we must resolve to never become. This book tells the story of two families on both sides of the Holocaust. Rudi's family is completely destroyed. Eric Dorff and his family survive the war. But who triumphed? In the end, it was Rudi. Why? Because, when it was all over, he was still human. I also recommend "The Hiding Place."

A painful and emotional saga

Review Date: 2001-03-24
This novel tells the fictional story of two Germans, one on each side of the holocaust. Rudi Weiss is a young Jewish boy whose family refuses to acknowledge the growing threat of Hitler and the Nazis. They realize too late that they should have left Germany and become embroiled in the persecution and elimination of the Jews. Erik Dorf is a new lawyer whose wife prods him to become an SS officer under the direction of Heydrich. He rises quickly through the ranks of the SS and it is disturbing to see how his nonchalance about the Jews becomes full-fledged hatred throughout the course of the story. The book alternates the voices of Weiss and Dorf, effectively showing both sides of the conflict in a manner that will both educate you about why Hitler chose the Jews as a scapegoat and shock you with its sometimes graphic depiction of abuse and humiliation. This book needs to be read so that the horrifying memory of the Holocaust will never be forgotten or repeated.

The Hundredth Woman is an inspiring novel about women finding themselves, connecting with friends and lovers, and embracing the spiritual world. They tap into the strength of all women, present and past, to follow their chosen paths and become the women they are supposed to be. Lessons many of us know but tend to forget. It's an excellent pathway to claiming our best lives. Bless you, Kate Green, for putting your soul into this. In The Hundredth Woman Kate Green has uniquely crafted three goddess characters full of passion, drama, and beauty. They are real-life women enduring real-life battles. Well-written with a clearly defined plot, Kate's novel is much more than a book "just for women." There is no hardcore male bashing -- only hardcore women discovering their inner strengths and how to use them -- powers the author experienced while traveling the world learning from indigenous female spiritual leaders. The story includes women confronting ghosts from the past, women learning how to rebuild their lives, and women trying to save the planet -- all entwined together in this highly spiritual life-changing novel.

I loved The Hundredth Woman! Weaving women's history from the witch hunting craze in Europe with the lives of three modern women, Kate Green has created an action-packed adventure sure to entertain. But The Hundredth Woman is more than "just" fiction because the world she writes about is our world, the trials and tribulations of the characters are ours as well, and their process of awakening and growth can be ours, too. Kate asks, "What if women hold the key to our future?" By the end of the book, it's clear that we do.

The book draws you in right from the beginning and it doesn't let go. Far more than just a novel of fiction, Hundredth Woman brings to light the power women have always had and the power that is being positively reclaimed today. I found myself mesmerized by the characters and the story, but far more than that, I found the message exciting, empowering, and impactful on many, many levels of my being. The book is a celebration of women and life. And this `hundredth woman' is sharing it with the other `hundredth women' in her life!

This book, though limited to just a few melodic structures, gives a very good insight to what improvisation is about: telling your own story, using coherent and consistent melodic structures. It goes to the basis, and because it doesn't overwhelm you with all possible modes/scales/structures but just sticks to a few powerfull tools, enables you to understand and implement. A must for the advanced guitar player.

This book has been the stepping stone I need to get to applying arpeggios all over the neck and combining different sounds with them. I've only gotten through the 1st section (minor arpeggios) and I'm not only more able to connect arpeggios over the neck but also able to substitute them in over other chords. For instance, before this book I didn't know how to substitute and play only minor arpeggios over a ii V I progression. Now I know multiple ways and can very the sound depending on degree of the chord I build off of. There is a lot of information and so much to get out of the book. The other sections that I haven't even gotten to yet covers in the same way how to use and apply major triad +2 and minor tetrachords.

The best thing about Andrew's two books I have (Comping is the other I have) is they way he presents things. The examples he gives allow you to understand the concept and then later know how to easily apply it. So many books give too few examples that are so easily applicable outside the book.

To get a better idea of the contents of the book, check out Andrew Green's website at www.[...]com. This along with his Comping book have been two of my favorite books in a while. Know that both of these books require reading skills (no tab) and they are not aimed at beginners.

"Lean and Green" is a must-read for anyone involved in business and/or sustainability. Personally, I've been involved in both. I've hosted my own radio show that included "lean and green" types of subjects. And I'm impressed by what Pam Gordon has done. Rather than being theoretical or abstract, she's drawn upon her corporate experience and expertise. She's provided a ton of real-world, lean-and-green business examples from IBM, Celestica, NEC, Apple, Horizon and many other companies. She's also provided a framework for people in business who want to introduce lean-and-green activities within their own companies. And, perhaps most importantly of all, she has chronicled some key indicators of a little-recognized trend these days: the shift towards a world of manufacturing that uses far less materials and energy and produces far less waste. "Lean and Green" is easy-to-read and hopeful. I don't recommend books very much. I recommend this one.

The core theme is that, if you reduce waste and increase recycling, it will be good for the environment and for profits. The theme is supported with a wealth of examples. This is a book for those who are 'putting a toe in the water' rather than for those who wish to move beyond the first steps, but is useful at the level to which it is pitched. It helps to contest the pernicious myth that business profitability and environmental responsibility are at odds with each other.

In "Listening to the Land", environmental activist Derrick Jensen converses with Terry Tempest Williams, Ward Churchill, Starhawk, and other visionary ecological thinkers on a broad range of vital issues, like: ecofeminism, wilderness preservation, resource depletion, bioregionalism, and Native American liberation. For activists working to stop the corporate plunder of our planet, defend indigenous peoples, and protect endangered species, this book is an inspirational read. It will encourage you not only to resist the destructive forces of industrial patriarchy, but to live in deep relationship with one's landbase. The coho salmon, the panda bears, the monarch butterflies, the tropical rainforests, and the coral reefs depend on our love (just as we, in turn, depend on the living earth).

This book is very well written and a wonderful collection of essays. For anyone that enjoys a well written essay with regards to the future of our planet, the environment or the total disregard that so many humans currently have to the planet - this is an excellent read.

I like this book and re-read it occasionally. The reviews with individuals are helpful in gettin a semi-diverse opinion of the troubles of our world. Some interviews are definately better than others so do not expect all interviews to blow you away. I have marked 10 or so and come back to these occasionally in order to re-inspire myself.

Magnificent, Inspiring and Moving, Top notch!

This book by Derrick Jensen was moving and inspiring. It presented a wide variety of viewpoints on environmental topics in a very personal dialogue format. This approach worked to reach the heart as well as the head. I found every section interesting and had a difficult time putting the book down.

This title is also informative and presents a full spectrum of opinions in original form from the mouths of the speakers who represent -- environmentalists, theologians, Native Americans, psychologists and feminists. In addition to reaching the heart, the material stimulates deep inquiry on the part of the reader. It is not in anyway superficial, quite the contrary!

The organizing principle of the book is the theme of loving the land and living in harmony with it. A thread that pervades every section is finding peaceful ways to live in harmony with the environment. It does not look to assign blame, but rather to seek peaceful solutions to the increasingly complex environmental problems that are plaguing all of us on the planet.

In my opinion, this is a must read for anyone interested in the environment or in reestablishing a deep connection to the land. If I could rate it a six I would. I got more from this book than I ever expected and have shared it with many people. I wish every voter and person having anything to do with making public policy read it, preferably on a camping trip.

Wide variety of great thinking in this book.

If your a fan of Derrick Jensen's work you will definately see where he has gotten a lot of the foundations in his thinking.

This book is centered on the question if we we're not happy destroying the landbase that keeps us alive, and gives our inner world substance, than why are we doing it? Jensen than goes on to interview thinkers from many different fields to discuss this phenomenon.

This book is interesting and full of a lot of useful information. I find myself constantly going back through it and referencing interviews that I have found profoundly important.

Definately worth reading!

While not perfect, this is a very good history of the M4 Sherman. Better use of photos and (more important) coordination of photos would have upped this to five stars in my opinion. For example, in many cases one model of tank is being discussed while all the photos show a completely different model. Very good use of diagrams, which ARE usually located on the correct page. Well worth the money, if you want perfection you'll be spending more.

The M4 series medium tank, commonly known by its British-applied nickname of "Sherman", was one of the most important weapons of the Allied ground effort in WW2. The Sherman started as one of the best tanks in the desert when introduced in North Africa, but soon fell behind German tanks in guns and armor. This was because US doctrine didn't emphasize tanks fighting other tanks, but the German doctrine saw the tank as the primary anti-tank weapon. While not a great tank killer, the Sherman was available in large numbers, not only for US forces but for many Allied nations. It also proved itself quite an adaptable design, with room for growth and was able to serve a number of special roles that were never even envsioned when the tank was originally designed.

This soft cover book covers much of the technical developments of the Sherman tanks. Mr. Green uses many period photos, plus views from restored tanks to illustrate the many changes and variations in the Sherman's design. He looks at the tank in the context of actual useage. He also touches on the US tank crews, one of the secrets of the Shermans ultimate success in battle.

For the money this book is a good investment in the basics of the Shermans design and use. Very useful to military historians, wargamers, model builders and tank buffs.

A fascinating, involving read.

Military specialty libraries strong on World War II history won't want to miss M4 Sherman At War, a survey of a tank which played a key role in every aspect of the battles, enabling the Allies to manufacture enough units to overwhelm the superior German tanks they faced. The design and employment of a tank which beat the odds is reviewed in chapters packed with vintage black and white photos, cut-away diagrams, and historical and design facts: a fascinating, involving read.

The M4 Sherman is THE American tank of the Second World War, seeing service in all theaters of war and being operated by a number of Allied units. That being said, the Sherman was a badly designed tank that was never the equal of its German contemporaries. That Sherman crews accomplished so much says more about their courage and steadfastness rather than the quality of the tank they manned.

The Sherman went to war an under-gunned, under-armoured and under-powered tank whose boxy, too-tall silhouette provided German tank and anti-tank gunners easy opportunities for kills. In a rare, pre-war blunder Chief of Staff George Marshall decided the M4's main mission was to be a weapon of explotation rather than a slayer of enemy tanks. The newly created tank destroyers were tasked with that duty. Yet realistically how could a Sherman crew pick and choose its opponents in a combat situation? Nevertheless Marshall, aided by General Lesley McNair, pushed through this doctrine and Sherman crews went to war in a seriously flawed design.

Green and Brown do an excellent job of documenting the Sherman's flawed beginnings, the seemingly endless - and usually unsuccessful - attempts to upgrade the basic design and its armament along with the stateside struggles between various Army bureacracies that hindered production of the best possible design.

Likewise in describing and illustrating the tank, its various components, and combat record, the authors do a bang-up job. The book is packed with photos, cutaways, profiles and digrams, many in color along with dozens of wartime photos and contemporary acccounts of the M4 in action.

All in all, a comprehensive, insightful, well-illustrated, and entertaining guide to a a combat legend. And only $19.95!

Recommended!
