Really good review of scientific studies on health benefits

This book is very thorough. This is the first source I see which reviews the many western scientific studies which have verified the health claims of this ancient drink. This is also the only place where I have found a quantified indicator (Ph) of the state of readyness of the drink, and a recommended dosage. Other good sections include how to prepare the drink, a troubleshooting guide, health problems which can be treated with kombucha and what other treatment may be helpful, and recipes using kombucha. This book packs a lot of information and is definitely worth keeping as a reference.

I bought this book for a friend who owns a coffee plantation on Kona. It is a sweet little book with a nice collection of historic photos, reproductions of ads and coffee labels and stories of the coffee pioneers in Hawaii. Though it has a very quaint, home-spun quality, at 63 pages under a thin, softcover, it is a little too insubstantial to be a coffee-table book and disappears next to other books on a shelf. Unfortunately, it is likely to get a quick glance-over, then tossed into a drawer with other booklets and pamphlets.

I bought this book years ago. The Victoria Sponge Cake recipe is easy and delicious. I've made it many times and always to high praise. Since I don't think of myself as a baker, it's very gratifying.
While I haven't tried all the recipes in here, the ones I have tried have been good. It is a small book, but it's a gigantic celebration of an old tradition.

A very good book, with a minor exception

I've been a tea drinker for almnost all of my life. As a child in the early sixties I can recall that there was always tea in the kitchen. And now, at almost 50, tea is my favorite drink. I don't care too much for coffee. A cup of hot tea is what I prefer.
I've read a few books on tea over the years, and I've drank many, many different types of tea. These days I know what I like and that's pretty much what is in the cupboard.
This book presented a good deal of worthwhile information in it's few pages. The history, geography, and types of tea are spelled out clearly and simply.
All in all, it was a good book. But as I said, there is a minor exception. While this is the first time I'd seen this topic in an actually printed book, it is one that gets it's share of abuse on the tea drinkers forum; and that would be the suject of cream, sugar, and or lemon in your tea. In The Little Book of Tea, the author basically declares those who enjoy a little sugar in their tea, or a little lemon, to be acceptable, but looked down the nose at. I've heard it all before. It's amusing nonsense at best. Drink your tea how you enjoy drinking it. That's what it's all about: enjoyment.

My baby daughter likes the size of the book, it fits in her hand as well as her mouth, and comes with a small tea set, and of course, Miss Mouse, wearing a striped dress and cute as can be. The story is forgettable, but we dare not go anywhere without Miss Mouse and her tea pot, it amuses us in those times when only quiet toys are appropriate

Monica is the granddaughter of "The" Dickens. In this book, together with the books One Pair of Hands and One Pair of Feet she details the varied jobs she did when young. In this book she is a junior at a small publishing house, in the days of hot-metal typesetting. There are very funny stories - I remember particular the one where they find a mistake in a word but it is too late to reset the page so they use a hammer to smudge and blur the word and hope nobody notices!

"The New Complete Coffee Book" is an excellent coffee table book on coffee. It tells you most of what you need to know, and is impressively presented in a way which would look good on any coffee table.
Nonetheless, this book could, I feel, have done with a few more basic bits of information. I would have enjoyed a section on how to make basic coffee (ie latte, cappucino, machiato) - even if these are considered 'simple' coffee making skills. Also, a bit more information on the different aspects of different coffee region produce would have been good. Furthermore, there is a section on savoury coffee meals (lamb with coffee rub, anyone?) which can at best be described as superflous.
On the whole, though, the book is pretty damn good, and certainly worthy of purchase. I am very happy with it.

Readers who are interested in special recipes for foods to serve with tea will want to buy THE PERFECT AFTERNOON TEA BOOK. Many of the recipes are very simple to make; a few are more complicated. Colorful, clear photographs accompany each recipe. The book also includes some basic information on the most popular types of tea.
