Beverages Books

I run a small brewing web site (BS Brewing: the Champagne of Blogs) and consider myself extremely knowledgeable about Portland's brewing scene, and couldn't believe two Britons could nail it so soundly. Just about everything you could possibly want to know about Oregon beer is in this book, and I haven't even sampled the other states (Alaska, Hawaii, Las Vegas, California, Washington ...) yet. Sharp, witty writing with great background stories (the McMenamins empire, the Horse Brass, Bridgeport and Widmer) and very current reviews (Hopworks Urban Brewery).

Sadly, a few favorites are missing, including the Green Dragon and Produce Row, but everything else you could want to know about beer in Portland is here. HIGHLY recommended.

I bought this book because I saw Jaymz Bee on a late night NBC news show. He reminded me of a (better looking) Austin Powers. The book was much more of an information guide than I thought. I actually use the book regularly, and it's helped me select great movies, music and of course cocktails for my get togethers. It's way hipper than Martha Stewart, unbelievably detailed and a totally fun read. I've enjoyed every dummies book that I've bought, but this is my fave!

Just finished this book and was very satisfied with it. It's an easy read with many good points to consider..... Many people won't let anyone tell them what music to like, or art to appreciate, but some how when it comes to wine, they can't trust the same judgment to decide which wine to drink or like. The pictures in the book are Excellllllllent! I may read again sometime later because it made me think about and look at wine just a little differently!

Contains a very good selection of tea, coffee and cocoa recipies. The ones I've tried have been very good.

This is a great customer-friendly guidebook. Whether you are wine touring, or simply on your way somewhere and would like a hospitality stop, this book will give you ideas, information, and a few background notes that will help you understand and enjoy your visit! Five Stars!

A good friend gave me this book because she knew how much my Starbucks quad shot French vanilla lattes mean to me. For dietary reasons, I had cut them out cold turkey and I was definitely feeling the pinch! After reading this book I had reason to live again! I learned that I didn't have to give up my early morning ambrosia, I just needed to modify it a little bit! This book is not only informative, it is great fun to read! I highly recommend it! Kudos to the author and, to coin a phrase, "Thanks a Latte!

This is an informative beer cookbook. The forward by Michael Jackson alone is a learning experience. Each recipe tells the style(s) of beer to use. There is a nice variety of recipes. The author obviously knows about beer and food and knows that experimentation is the name of the game. Never buy a beer cookbook with recipes that just call for "beer". This one calls out specific styles and that's the name of the game when cooking with beer.

This beautifully illustrated table top book is the prize of my 30+ wine book collection. It has hundreds of illustrations including some of the best and most informative hand drawn maps of every major wine growing region in the world. there are 495 pages to this 10"x11"x2" book with a gold embossed label.

This really ought to be a quintessential book for those who love red clarets from Bordeaux. The pictures demonstrate what these chateaux should look like - which helps readers remember other important wine-making statistics. Tasting notes provide good guidance on recent vintages, including those yet to be released to the open market. A must-see for wine lovers.
