The information contained in this book is perhaps the most complet and concise information on the subject. While it was written nearly 75 years ago there is no other work that is more complet. If I could rate it a 12 I would have. A must for any coffee profeciadnoda.

Comprehensive Listing of the World's Best Beers
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-18
This book is exactly what I was looking for, but it's not for everyone. If you're looking to learn about Belgian beer then I suggest you look elsewhere. This book is intended for those who already know what they're looking for.

It's best used as a catalog or "to drink" list. Each beer is shown in the bottle and in the glass on one page and general information about the beer is on the facing page. The info includes: fermentation method, style, brewery, ingredients, alcohol content, appearance, serving suggestion, serving temperature and a brief description. The description is more factual than review and is intended not to influence the reader. The author left space for you to write your own notes on the beer. I hope to fill the notes on every page.

Great Photos
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2003-01-11
Although this book contains "only" 224 pages, it seems to be much larger. Some of it may be due to the larger format (9"x11"). Most of it may be due to the excellent large (full-page and two-page) photographs. The accompanying text is concise, easy-to-read yet very informative. The photographs cover many aspects of vineyards and workers. The books does a good job covering the various areas of the U.S. and provides a surprising amount of detail about history and current status of each.

I have long needed such a book

Many times I was in doubt what some names in coctail recepies reffered to, what kind of drinks those were. This book completely solved many of the doubts. There is almost every single appetizer included with nice photos, history, serving tips. Very useful! I was delighted when found such a book, so I give it all 5 stars.

So Good it's Spooky!

There's an eerie, somewhat supernatural tone to Erdman's writing, hidden beneath the tough veneer of hard, modernist imagery. "he/is gargoyled," she writes of Kevin Spacey in the imminently disturbing movie, "Seven," "has mastered/the architecture of faith-/the language of churches./As his locks are picked,/he prays:/'...through me,/enter into the City." Certainly, her lines capture the moment of tension and anticipation of the frightening film. I adore Erica Erdman, adore her startlingly original poetry and wicked sense of humor. I marvel at her commanding presence and captivating voice. But perhaps the most remarkable thing about her is illustrated by her poem "Epiphany For Amphibians Abandoned By Their God," where she writes, "we are left in shallows/with cracked wheat and whalebones/short of breath, scavenging/for scrapmetal and hearsay." Erdman has the ability to suggest that the world is other than we think it is, and from tales told by fireside, to the Blair Witch Project, THAT is the soul of horror.

Beautiful, a steal

Review Date: 2008-03-12
This is a beautiful, steal of a book (some independent sellers are offering <30% of the price Barnes and Noble wanted when I originally bought it the first time!). If you're like me and really want to know the intricacies of wine production (not just tasting notes, etc.--which this book also contains), this is a handy and educating book to have. Yes, it is paperback, but the front cover is a thick, glossy card stock and the pages inside are glossy as well. Nice for a coffee table or a bookshelf, but even better for your brain!

Basic and Thorough

While not a big beer drinker, I do enjoy a good cider now and then. Coming from a family that makes sweet cider I was interested in brewing a good batch or two of the hard stuff. Mr. Correnty does a good job of giving history and practical advice. He keeps the brewing expenses to a minimum and gives loads of information from recipies, to brew supplies, to apple selection.

Stunning visual images

Review Date: 2007-07-14
I just got my copy of this beautiful book, and I couldn't put it down. As I viewed each gorgeous photograph, I couldn't wait to turn the page to see the next. Rose's stunning visual images bring the wine country alive, even for those who are not lucky enough to live there. Rod Smith's lovely prose is an appropriate accompaniment to the pictures, but even without the text, the photos tell a story all on their own. Like a fine wine, the memories of the pictures lingered in my mind long after I closed the book. Unlike my other coffee-table books, once my guests open the pages of this book, they simply cannot put it down until they get to the last page.

I am an artist and a wine lover so this book is the best of both worlds for me! The book starts out with a brief history of labeling wine. Then it goes through different wines, describes the vineyard owners' ideas about their label and how the designers met their needs.
