Anyone interested in making thier golf game better should buy this book. Regardless of physical skill it teaches how to train your body by teaching your mind to focus more clearly, enjoy playing, and play more consistently. It uses NLP techniques and is one of the best books on NLP I've ever read. It has loads of visualisation excersises and strategies to elicit the perfect attitude more consistently and with more control. I am actually buying another copy!

A Perfect Finish

Review Date: 2008-03-21
I just proudly finished my first reading of Dave Ogilvie III's The Golfer's Dream and found it highly enjoyable both in the author's to the point writing style and informational content. A life-long player of 45 years, I was able to understand and visualize his concepts and looking forward to putting a few of his suggestions and techniques to work. My goal is to keep it simple and seems I was already performing many of the fundamentals. Although I may have peaked many years ago, certainly working on a better finish, better balance and an inside to out swing should certainly help. It was consoling to hear from Dave that the majority of my distance and swing speed was most likely set many years ago, at least that explains the inability to hit it 275 yards!!

I had the privilege of receiving instruction in my junior days from Dave's father, David Ogilvie, Jr. at the Jefferson-Lakeside Club in Richmond. He had many classic stories that are still remembered of the golf pro's from the 1920's and 30's. Tom Barry, our current Professional at Lakeside was Dave's Assistant at Flossmoor prior and I can also attest that he certainly is the most dedicated employee and we have been blessed to have him as well as David Ogilvie, Jr. as our head golf professionals.

I highly recommend The Golfer's Dream: A Dictionary of Golf's Woes and Cures for a good summary of the game's technique.

Ogilvie III on golf. Fix it all.

Dave Ogilivie III's written lessons will, without question, fix your game. Simple and effective solutions simple enough for the high handicappers to understand and learn from, solid enough for those at the other end of the spectrum.
He covers the mental and physical aspects of the game as well as anyone can do in print. THe book can be read topic by topic, no need for a front to back read.

I have known Dave since the 60's so my review is obviosly biased. The lessons, however, are the same I was given as a youth. Dave taught many young golfers over the ages and produced some very fine
golfers. A real gentleman and first rate teacher continuosly sought by the Chicago golfing crowd.

A Birdie of a Book

This is not another semi-psychotic analysis of the technical aspects of the golf swing. Golffirmations goes straight to the very heart of the game. It's a wise and warm reflection on
the game's fascinations, frustrations and fellowship. It offers, in equal doses, bits of history, doses of hilarity, and the high-five hallelujahs that keep us on the course. O'Neill may not have won a major but he's certainly written one. Great idea for Father's Day.

In a category filled with books about the technical aspects of the golf swing, O'Neill's book goes straight to the very heart of the game. Golffirmations is a wise and warm rumination on the diabolical pleasures of the game, its endless frustrations, fascinations and fellowship. Wonderfully written, breezy and full of bounce. O'Neill hasn't won a major but he's written one. Great Father's Day gift.

If you are a golfer,, good or bad. This is a great book for you. Also give it as a gift to the golfer you know. It will cause you to laugh out loud, and you will see yourself and so many others within the pages. It`s just for fun, but packed with true-isms, and half true-isms! Good to pull out on those rainy days, while waiting at the 19th hole, or at golf parties !!!!

For the casual golfer, this sport can be, as Mark Twain once said, a good walk spoiled. But for the true Golfoholic, the walk is never spoiled. Even when bitter cold rain is coming down sideways in a swirling wind and you've just lost your ball in the woods and thrown your putter in the pond. So you take a drop, chili-dip your next two shots into the drink so your balls can keep your flat stick company, and then chip one into the hole for a snowman. You turn to your golf buddies who are shaking their heads in disbelief and say, "Didn't need that crooked old stick after all." As you approach the next tee, one of them hands you a flask through the freezing rain and it's then you realize deep down that there's no place on God's green earth you'd rather be. If this sounds familiar, it's time you bellied up to the virtual bar at golfoholics.com

This is a golf book for anyone who's ever played the game. Heck, this is a book for anyone who's ever even thought about palying the game.
Because whether you love golf or hate it the stories in this book capture a humor that goes well beyond the game. Hackers, Duffers and yes, even serious golfers, unite and rejoice. See you at the 19th hole.

If you are someone like me who enjoys those very small sized books, you should enjoy this one. There are some hard facts about the game of golf, but the way they are presented is in keeping with the preciousness of the size of the book. While sometimes silly, sometimes sweet, the book is just the right size to keep tucked in your golf bag.

This book is delightful! Really, an attractive little book, that has drawings of professional women golfers (who knew there were so many?) and quotes and golf tips. It's just much more than I expected to find in a small, inexpensive book

It's one stop shopping for golf courses in NY. Organized geographically, it provides easy access to a listing of local public and private golf courses.

Knowing that the authors are golfers who have personnally visited all of the courses, assures me of a golfers perspective.

An excellent, comprehensive guide to all of New Yorks golf.

This great work is self-described as a "Glossary..." when in fact it is an autobiography. Unless you are one of the contributors (Greg Norman, Fred Funk, etc.), you are in this book many times. Whether you are Disrobing for Dollars or a Tee Box Tripper, we have all been there. The illustrations are equally as accurate as the description of the Humiliating situations. At first glance this book looks like it is loaded with chuckles, which is, and best of all it provides solutions for all the situations. A great gift for all golfers, particularly if they have everything.

Once again, Joel Zuckerman has managed to compile some of the most interesting, intelligent, as well as comical paragraphs relating to the "Ultimate and Imtidating Game of Golf".....Hats off to Mr. Z and his staff for allowing all of us hackers to learn, as well as laugh at ourselves and the pros. Each page is a learning experience and lesson from our own personal history on the links. Yes, there must be cameras on the courses we have played...how else could this information have gotten out....who would tell? Oh, and don't forget, "Don't be an idiot!"

Keep up the great work....looking forward to your next work and maybe a chance to meet you someday for some "grog and gripes."

This is an excellent book for people curious about the meaning and origins of golfing terms. It covers historical words - for example the old names of clubs in the hickory era - and current words and their origins. I get emailed regularly about such things via my website, and this is the source I turn to to answer the tricky questions. It's also worth looking for an old copy of John Stobbs' 1964 book "An ABC of Golf", but Davies' book is the definitive source. DN
