This book gives personal accounts of the writer's involvement in Astrology. She reveals many instances of how this art has changed her life and the lives of others who have sought her advice. This definitely is not a "how to learn Astrology" book, but a wonderful tool for exploring the philosophy of how the alignment of the planets affect a person's behavior, or social climate in general.

Once again, the writing style is very warm and matter-of-fact, as is the case in all the writings of Sybil Leek that I have read. Consequently, it makes for a very pleasurable and easy read. Many of the examples of the use of astrology are drawn through many famous people who visited Mrs. Leek throughout her career - clients such as Ian Fleming and H.G. Wells. Astrological influences are detailed during historical events, such as the Second World War as well as the Vietnam War, which provide for extremely thought-provoking ideas.

The copy I own is 221 pages long, broken down into 13 short chapters. It is very autobiographical, in that it is written as the writer's journey in life, with astrology in the foreground.

In conclusion, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who finds interest in astrology or philosophy. The ideas are very rich and stimulating. I truly enjoyed this book.

Peter Miller has a big scoop
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-03-08
We are told that the best stories com from people that write about what they know. So if this story seems insightful it may be because Frederic Forsyth worked for Reuters reporting from London and he wrote the story in hotels from Germany to Austria. He mixes the real, not so real and the plausible to make you think "what if."
I do not want to say much as the fun is being surprised during the reading. However compared to the movie the book is much more in-depth with more characters and details. Manny times you think Forsyth is going off on some tangent and not focusing on the main story; then with out warning the information makes sense later on. One example to look for is the quick encounter with military maneuvers where he describes the tank sergeant.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is the night of the John F. Kennedy assassination. Peter Miller, freelance reporter in the process of chasing ambulances is disappointed by the apparent suicide of a person of no consequence.
Turns out the dead man is holocaust survivor Salomon Tauber; he left behind a diary of his experiences. Miller reads this diary and seems particularly interested in some details. This inspires him to do a story on what happed to ex-Nazis. His quest puts him at odds with many people including an organization (O.D.E.S.S.A.) that was designed to help the SS escape justice. He also encounters independent agents out for their own agenda. Then there is the MOSSAD. Everyone accuses Miller of having his own secret agenda and not just out for a story. Can they be right?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Be sure to also watch the movie with famous actors that actually fit the characters from the book. Naturally a lot of information had to cut out and some sequence changes to fit the media. We still get the full speech from Eduard Roschmann (Maximilian Schell)

An old friend I'd never met before

Oh, my! To think I never read this before. I knew of it, of course, fromquotes and snippets (my mother took me to see "The Family of Man" at the Museum of ModernArt in New York in the fifties). Why doesn't Sandburg rank higher in our artistic pantheon? Too left wing? Not pretentious enough? More like Woody Guthrie than like T. S. Eliot? Anyway, this is wonderful stuff, reads aloud wonderfully, funny, wise, and you'd better believe it has a message for the nineties. "Another baby in Cuyahuga County, Ohio--why did she ask: 'Papa, what is the moon supposed to advertise?'" "The public has a mind? Yes. And men can follow a method and a calculated procedure for drugging and debauching it? Yes. And the whirlwind comes later? Yes." A treasure. And fun to read.

I first read, "The People, Yes" in 1966, while I was still a high school student. I discovered then that reading and writing poetry was cool. More than anything I had ever read before that it spoke to me in such a personal way, that poetry could be warm, sad, funny and powerful all at the same time. While my friends talked about Kerouac, and Ginsberg, and of course Catcher in the Rye, I read everything Carl Sandburg ever wrote. I used my original copy to teach my high school students with until the cover fell off and the pages came apart. It has always held a special spot on my bookshelf, and now I have given this book to my daughter, and she carries it with her everywhere with her own copy of "Always The Young Strangers". She said she never knew poetry could be so powerful, yet easy to understand. Until I gave her this book, she said she hated to read the poetry they assign in school because "this is poetry. It has so much to say, and I know he wants me to understand his words, and he doesn't hide behind archaic language, literary symbols or obscure references that seem irrelevant." The Poetry of Carl Sanburg is timeless. I never understood why his place in American Literature was not much higher. To me he is the best American poet of the twentieth century, in a class by himself. After thirty years and hundreds of readings, I still find something new every time.

I was required to purchase this text as a freshman in high school in 1972. Its use was required in my English classes all four years of high school, and I continued to refer to it often during both my undergraduate and graduate classes. I have kept my original copy all these years. I am now a high school teacher, and still use many of the examples and exercises with my students. This and The Elements of Style should be on any serious writer's desk.

A Phenomenal Resource

About six years ago as an English major at Emory University in Atlanta, I took a wonderful literature course under Dr. William B. Dillingham, one of this book's coauthors. This book was a required purchase (of course). When I pulled it out to use yet again today, I decided to see if it was still being sold on Amazon. I'm so glad it is.

This little book (of which I own the 10th edition) has been an invaluable resource through the years. With a B.A. in English, I am a magazine editor and pride myself on knowing grammar and punctuation, but every once in a while I need a good resource to answer my questions, and this one comes through for me.

Really written for students, with brief quizzes at the end of each chapter, this book is a handy desk reference. The first part of the book goes over the basics (parts of speech, punctuation). The last part addresses the rules for writing research papers.

My name is Russell too, but I am a good Russell. The Russell in the story is nice but sometimes he's naughty. After Germy and Russell hit eachother they were friends again. I learned to read with these books, now I can read! That's all I want to say!

P.S. from Russell's mommy: these books are wonderful, perfect for any emergent reader, and just fine for energetic little boys. It was fun to read realistic vignettes set in the city. I liked the chapter where Russell goes out for Chinese food with grandparents, it was familiar! We have read all of them in the series, one is funnier than the next! Johanna Hurwitz has the heart of Beverly Cleary, and the talent, too, but with a style all her own. Don't miss these lovely read-alouds!

Five year old boy experiences some of lifes moments shared by other children. Chapters have stand-alone themes, so it is greaat for a chapter a day before bed or at school. It explores disappointment, fighting at school, a first chinese dinner and wanting attention. Delightful, although I changed use of "stupid" to "dumb" that Russell uses. A great book for students from K through 4th grade, as well as parents. It is a humorous, family oriented book.

To tell the truth I am only read this book half way through. This book is so fascinating, in each chapter it explains about the beautitudes, depth explanation, and conclusion. Mr. Graham writes in a logical and spiritual combine, which helps the reader to understand better. . WOW!! I would recommend you to buy this book

The Secret of Happiness--The Sermon on the Mount Revisited

Review Date: 2000-10-14
The Secret of Happiness is a devotional exposition of the beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-10) and a must-read for all Christians. Each chapter explains a beatitude, puts the beatitude in a spiritual context, and discusses why Christians should pay attention.

Graham's exposition is lucid and to the point. The book was first published in 1957 and it includes, at least in the first printing, a priceless portrat of Graham as a young man.

I have read this book twice. The first time was in college. I reading it again now in mid-career on the death of my grandfather. My grandfather loved this book enough that he donated a copy to the church library where it remained for 20 years. I receieved this book as an heirloom.

This is the most genius that I have ever seen compacted onto paper. Although completely deranged and lacking in grammar proficiency, Dr. Garfield, D.D.S. succeeds in being thorough in his treatise, as well as thoroughly entertaining and interesting for the entire 488 pages. The book is filled with complex diagrams of human and animal anatomy and gruesome illustrations of primitive dental "technology". I particularly enjoy the last chapter, entitled "The Future" in which Dr. Garfield predicts the future of mankind. The first page of this chapter displays a picture of two naked busty Polynesian women experimenting in a laboratory. (Although Dr. Garfield's book is about teeth, he somehow tends to mention breasts an awful lot.) Among Dr. Garfield's predictions for the future are: The elimination of eating or drinking, and therefore the need for bodily openings, which disappear courtesy of evolution; and the perfection of medical science, which renders medical doctors unnecessary....which will make room for new degrees to be earned, such as "Doctor of Infinite Happiness".

This is the sort of book that is worth tracking down at all costs, and if you are lucky enough to secure a copy, show it off proudly to all you believe are capable of grasping and appreciating such a magnificent work as this.

If anyone actually ever reads this review, it means that someone actually searched for this book besides myself.END

This was the first integrated development environment (IDE) and a revalation in 1982. Prior to its release, compilers were run from the command line or as batch jobs on the main frames. This might be of interest to computer programming historians; however, given the nature of the industry, it's likely to just be forgotten or mentioned with a little smirk.

Turbo Pascal 3.0 was the affordable program which opened up the PC for programmers, and this is the original manual shipped with Turbo 3. This is one of the best references to using Turbo Pascal in DOS mode.

Originally shipped with a 5-1/4 floppy, Turbo 3 is now available on the Borland web site. Highly recommended!
