Since I live in the deep south and don't know a lot of skiers, this book fit the bill for me in deciding where and when to try my mountain legs in the West. Not only does this book describe all the major resorts in detail, but it compares them in table form one with another. If you are spending money on airfare, lodging, ski rentals, tickets ect, this book has the potential to keep you from making an expensive mistake. It also has lots of technical skiing tips also. The information is very accurate. The only thing that is sparce is individual lodging reviews. I guess that is beyond the scope of a book like this. The folks that write the book are real SKIERS, not just travel writers. I highly recommend this book, and looking forward to a new edition when it comes out.

The author actually went to every single resort in Utah last year and wrote about his experiences. Mike Fine is a long-time Utah resident and an avid skier. The book is very helpful for non-Utah resident skiers at any level to find a resort that will give them the most of what they want out of a skiing vacation. It's even helpful to a local seeking a day trip to a ski resort he either hasn't tried, or has not been to for a long time. It's an absolute must for anyone looking to ski in Utah.

This is a must read book for any Vail skier. I am the son of one of Vail's pioneers (Sigi Faller) and enjoyed many wonderful days on the Mountain in the "Glory Years". The book provides a perspective of Amercian history (Camp Hale and WWII) and relates a romantic business success story, especially for those who are independent, entrepreneural and have a love of the outdoors. It's a fascinating account of finding recreational "gold" in the Colorado Rockies. An excellent collection of photos is included.

This book captures the spirit of Peter Seibert and Earl Eaton and the early days of their lives and their dream to build Vail and Beaver Creek. The trimuphs are great. Hiking Vail for the first time with skins on the skis and seeing the bowls, what a trip! Getting fired from his dream and then getting asked back during the '89 World Championships - wow!! - what a roller coaster of emotions. If you love great stories and you know the Vail Valley and the ski industry - this book is a must read!!

Since the age of 12 I have collected the Cherry Ames series..and now at 57, I have finally completed my collection...I have the first edition copies of all but this book...from the 60's....this completes the set. I had read this book as a young teenager but it was a borrowed book..I now have my own...I loved the entire experience of living Cherry's life as a nurse..her adventures and her love for Lex...lol...I always wanted to be a nurse and this was part of that dream. I am in fact a nurse, and have been for over 37 years..loving it...not quite the variety that Cherry seemed to have experienced..in fact, it seems she had difficulty keeping a job!...Love the series and encourage anyone with a young budding nurse to get her started reading these books.

Crested Butte: From Coal Camp To Ski Town by western historian and author Duane A. Smith is the historical documentation of the history of Crested Butte, Colorado and how the great community came to be. Readers will discover the fascinating and multifaceted story of Crested Butte which originally attracted coal miners, along with many great details of that history, as well as all of the dangers the area's business encountered. Crested Butte is highly recommended to all students of history, specifically those who enjoy the study of historical Colorado. Other very highly recommended works by Duane Smith and published by Western Reflections are A Brief History of Silverton, A Quick History of the Durango and Silverton Railroad, and a Visit with the Tomboy Bride.

My only regret is that this book is out-of-print; however, if one is planning a ski vacation anywhere in the Alps, this book is priceless. Claire Walter, of Skiing Magazine, lists ski areas for each country as a chapter. Each area is decribed succintly including statistics and trail maps. Each resort is rated from 1 to 10 for snow and skiing conditions,apres-ski, other sports and value for money. The pictures of each resort area make one drool! We have used it 4 times and it works. Pray for a new publication of this guide.

I'm happy I was able to find this product on Amazon. I've been searching for it for quite some time, but I could only find it for ranges of over $50. Amazon provided excellent service, sending out an e-mail to let me know the estimated date of arrival. The item came at the exact date. It was in excellent condition and good packaging.

I was looking for a good ski guide and after much research I narrowed my choice down to two: this one and The Great Skiing & Snowboarding Guide 2007. After having purchased and used both guides I can recommend both. But if you are only buying one, then your choice should be around WHERE you are planning to ski.
This guide has no information on resorts outside North America (obviously), but it does provide richer information and insights than the Great guide. It provides better insights on food and accommodation as well as some views on the best runs - which I found to be very helpful and accurate. It doesn't have the glossy trail maps - although these days they can be found on-line for most resorts.
The Great guide has reviews of all the major resorts in North America and Europe (although it has very little on other countries such as NZ, Chile, Japan etc). A bonus is glossy colour trail maps of all the resorts they cover in detail. It also has lots of ad's and details for travel agents, hotels and the like if you are looking for that information.
In Summary: if you are "going global" or want the glossy trail maps - go with the Great guide. If you are sticking to North America then I found Leocha's to be more insightful. [Review repeated under Great Guide]

The tips are cool, the quips are fun, and it is just so much better than those stale books that spend 2 short pages and tell you no more than a resort's website.
