An Excellent Resource for Newly Diagnosed "Families"

As a mom of a 16 month old with moderate CP, I found this book to be a great starting place. It will not overwhelm you with all the "bad stuff" but introduces you to what life may be like with a CP child.

It also discusses how having a special needs child will mesh within the family, including dealing with extended family, siblings and future siblings (this was the only book I read that discussed this issue), schooling, etc.

As the disabilities host on Bellaonline, I recommend this book. This book covers Cerebral Palsy, and what it is like to have a child with cerebral palsy. It talks about the family dynamics, how to encourage your child to be independent, how to handle friends, and how to discuss the disability.

I'd recommend this book to both parents and educators.

A must read for ALL children.

This is by far and away the best (and most respectful) book I've seen about Foster Care. Beautifully illustrated, it presents the need for Foster Care with sensitivity and gentleness, continually reiterating "Kids are important, kids need to be safe". It doesn't sugar coat the hard feelings, nor does it make the child's original family into demons. I've read this to children both in and out of foster care - and all of them have been touched and moved.
Bravo!!

Offering children informed and informative guidance through the process of foster care

Kids Need To Be Safe by Julie Nelson is nicely illustrated with pictures by Mary Gallagher and offers children insightful, informative and quite helpful guidance through the hardships and difficulties of childhood when in the care of other different parents, guardians, and foster parents. Providing young readers ages 4 to 10 with an age appropriate understanding of what happens with parents who cannot maintain a healthy relationship together, or do not have place to live for their children, or for other reasons lose custody of the child, Kids Need To Be Safe favorably explains the basics of foster care. An important addition to school, community library, and family counseling center library collections, Kids Need To Be Safe is very highly recommended for all parents, foster parents, teachers, guidance counselors, and social workers offering children informed and informative guidance through the process of foster care.

THE KILLING
By Robert Muchamore

James is a 13 year old spy, whose life is far from normal. It consists of tough training, and missions. He also gets a room full of objects a 13 year old would use. But just when he thinks he's on top of the world it all comes crashing down on him and now he's desperately trying to keep himself from making it worse.
I thought that this book was great it always managed to keep me gripping on to it always wanting to read the next page. One of the best parts about this book is that it can hook basically anyone. It has action, crime, relationships, and mystery. Another thing about this book is that you don't need to read the books before to understand what's going on. If you read this book and loved it I recommend that you read the rest of the series because they, like this one, are full of surprises and plot twists, which always keeps you on the edge of your seat. Although this book also contains some content that might be a bit bloody or inappropriate for younger readers. My favorite part of this book is the paintball fight in the beginning it seems like that part has the most action.

There are so few historical fiction series for young readers that also have good stories. This is one. Both my boys are reluctant readers, and they really enjoyed another series by Hopkinson, Prairie Skies. When we found SAILING FOR GOLD in her new Klondike Kid trilogy, they were so excited. Well, this one is as good as the last. Recommended!

Micky's SO Inspiring!

It's a cute concept - to have a little Boston Terrior tell us all we need to know about pet therapy. Mickey is an engaging narrator and I enjoyed reading his story. But this book offers lots, lots more than entertainment. It lets you see from the ground up what it's like for a dog and his owner to train and work as a pet therapy team.

This book answers many questions I've had about pet therapy. What kind of dogs can do it? What does pet therapy involve? How do you and your dog train and qualify for being in such a program? Where can I find resources about pet therapy? How do the folks who have the pets visit benefit?

All these questions, and most of all the last, are answered in a very satisfying, accessible fashion. _Lapdog Therapy_ is very inspiring as it demonstrates with words, photographs and beautiful watercolours how Mickey and Winnie make a difference to the folks at a retirement community near their house. Therapy dogs are needed and loved for many reasons and in many ways by the older people pictured and described in this book. (I must note that I was very happy with the respectful way the folks in the retirement home were presented.)

At the end of the story, there are dozens of resources (most of which can be contacted by email).

Thank you, Mickey! My mastiffs can never do "lapdog therapy" (except maybe for the Jolly Green Giant), but I see they and I could qualify to do pet therapy.

Canine author and therapy dog Mickey offers a furry-fresh perspective on animal-assisted activities in his book LapDog Therapy. An educational and entertaining read for anyone who is - or wants to be - involved in this rewarding world of human-animal interaction.

An added benefit for Canadian readers is the inclusion of Canadian contact information in the well laid-out reference section.

Laurel is my favorite book out of the Orphen series. I love that she never gave up hope on finding her Grandma. I also love that she found a man who would be with her forever. A great book that every girl should read.

I have read all of the books in the Orphan Train West series, and this one is the best. I love historical romance books, and this is a really good one. Laurel is one of the girls who was adopted off of an orphan train, and she is lucky enough to get hooked up with a good family. (most of the other girls do not) She falls in love wiht two guys a rich one and a poor one, and it becomes really complicated. I won't tell you the rest, but this is a cute story with an adorable ending. Buy this book, you wont be sorry.

Congratulations on a wonderful & well-written book. We are in the middle of raising two young children and truly enjoyed Jeannette Thomson's insights into learning. Spending time with our children is always a learning experience. Reading books and doing activities is essential to their intellectual and emotional developement. I especially recommend this book to new parents. It is so easy to forget how we learned. Once again, congratulations.

Sincerely,

Susan Elliott

A truly insightful book and one which answers many of the questions we all, at one time, have ask. This is a channeled book by Kryon, who is here to assist us in making our way through this third dimension mess! It is based on love and how best to use all of the teachings in a spiritual manner which in turn will provide peace and joy in our lives. What I've found is that it provides a different way of looking at some of the problems that surround us and by doing so, the anxiety disappears. I can't say enough, it is a really a wonderful book!

I picked up this book on a "gut instinct" and I was right on the mark! This book that is channeled from Kryon through Lee Caroll is the BEST book I have read yet! Please also read the Indigo Children because they are the key to our new future! Any child born now up to the age of 14 will be showing us how to live! Letters From Home will easily become a Reference Bible for those who are lightworkers in this new age. I know I am a lightworker and I want to learn the new "EMF Balancing Technique" so that carrying my light will be reinforced and carried as high as it can be! This is the most exciting breakthrough for all of mankind! What makes it even neater is that we are all "the angel within", just as we always thought!
