This book is so wonderful because it gives another perspective of medicine. It is about educating parents so that they can make informed decisions about their children's healthcare, and not just rely on their doctor's opinion. I have enjoyed it because it has taught me which questions to ask my children's doctor, and even when to avoid taking my children to the doctor. (Another book that is similar, although not as thorough, is "How to Raise a Healthy Child in Spite of Your Doctor".)

Excellent! A MUST-HAVE for parents! Very informative!

This book is an essential part of our health-library! We've shared it with friends and family and everyone who has seen it has wanted their own copy for their family. This is so popular it is hard-to-get. The section about ear infections is especially useful today with so many kids being diagnosed with them. This book is a GREAT gift for parents with young children! Get a copy if you can!

Excellent desktop reference, empowering "alternatives"

Dr. Wootan enables the conscientious parent to take charge of her children's health in a practical, empowering way. In addition to basic grounding knowledge, it offers a chance to expand one's learning base i.e. to share discovering the health and working of bodies with your children so that they feel empowered to keep healthy. Guaranteed to save you money of doctor visits! Alternative or non-mainstream choices are respectfully treated and weighed against "modern" medicinal knowledge, and could encourage a waivering mind to follow it's intuition (ie to vaccinate or not to vaccinate).

After a year of sleepless nights this book sorted the problem in less than a week!

The book is easy to read, either go straight to the section you need or read the whole thing for deeper understanding.

Since buying the book my son has enjoyed 12 hours sleep every night and we are getting our full 8 hours. Definitely worth the cost of the book.

Teach your children to recognize and reject verbal abuse.
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2003-12-31
There is nothing that a survivor of verbal abuse wants more than to spare their children the devastation of a lifetime exposure to verbal abuse. Unfortunately, for those who have not felt it, or cannot wrap their mind around the concept and articulate it, the concept of verbal abuse, and its devastating effects, can seem very abstract. Teen Torment, as I read it, took the concept of verbal abuse, presenting it and analyzing it in a context that everyone has experienced (as a teen). Teen Torment presents an analysis of verbal abuse in a context which anyone who has experienced teen life has lived through. Thus making the concept of verbal abuse less abstract, and far easier to grasp and understand. The beauty of this approach is that once a person learns to identify verbal abuse in the context of teen life, they are much better prepared to recognize it in the context of intimate relationships. An added bonus is that a victim in a verbally abusive relationship can read this book without drawing the critical attention of the abuser, as the title (Teen Torment) does not immediately reveal a topic which the abuser, at first glance, might find threatening. In short, this is a great book on verbal abuse that has application to all people who seek to gain a greater understanding of verbal abuse, and particularly for parents who desire to spare their children from the torment of verbal abuse.

this is a good read for anyone who has to deal with verbal abuse. I feel like the title is a little misleading, as I have found this book very helpful in dealing with my mother and I am 28 yrs old. Although, I wish this book had been around when I was a teen, it probably would've made growing up with an abusive parent a lot easier. It is very insightful and gives helpful advice on recognizing patterns and "tricks" and also dealing with the verbal abuse. I also feel like I will be a better parent myself for reading this book. Much thanks to the author !

Provides a great reference in understanding verbal abuse and what a devestating impact it has on a teen. Many adults can relate to this too and perhaps see themselves as victims from their past. This book will also help others evaluate their "blind spots" and recheck verbal messages they are sending. "Everyone" should read this!

Must read for every Christian (period) especially families!

This is an awesome book about a family seriously devoted to the heart of GOD! Today so much lip service is given about loving GOD and HIS WORD especially in our worship services all over the land. BUT then after 20 minutes or so of singing about loving GOD and HIS WORD, we then are consumed with other loves, the gods of technology, etc. that have worked their way into the thrones of so many areas of our lives. This book describes a family of ten who simply read GOD's WORD, the BIBLE, and they lived it, sang it, and truly breathe it. Don't read this book if you don't want to be convicted by the HOLY SPIRIT and challenged to change your life into a more simple pattern of pleasing the heart of GOD! So readers beware. WARNING: This book can cause serious health implications and spiritual awakenings unlike you've ever dreamed. GOD's WORD will not return void! Read it (The Holy Bible) and believe it, then miraculous things will occur weekly in your life. We know, because we are a family of eight that live by faith. This book though written in the mid-sixties, has eternal value for all walks of life. We have been seriously challenged by this book to increase our almost daily devotion time and Bible reading.

A Fun Story about an Amazing Family

Being a family that wants to honor God and obey His Word ourselves, it was neat to hear the adventures of the Arnold Pent family. They traveled all across North America, often wondering where they would sleep or where their next meal would come from or how they would pay for gas. But they trusted God and He always provided.

As a father, this book gave me a vision for teaching my family the Bible--hearing how much importance Mr. Pent placed on READING the Bible. Before breakfast, and after every meal--regardless of where they were or who they were staying with.

DON'T GET ME WRONG--This is not a boring, stiff, how-to kind of book that makes you feel guilty. It's just a FUN story about a family who was very different from your typical family. Almost every page made our whole family laugh.

We were given this wonderful book in 1980 and as a result our small children in a matter of weeks could quote chapters and entire books of the Bible without memorization. In the following years, our four kids would travel, sing and recite series of verses that my wife and I compiled on various Bible subjects. We told the Pent Story where ever we went. We even were blessed by several personal visits by David Pent to our home and got to eventually meet 5 of the 8 Pent children. Our children are grown now, but the scripture they learned is still with them effecting how they live their adult lives for the Saviour that died for them. If you want to step out of the mundane and into the extraordinary life of serving God... this book is the key to leaving a legacy that no one will ever forget.

I just finished reading this book, it's fill with scriptural guidance on how to lead your family, marriage, children and everyday life. Base on God's perfect absolutes for mankind (10 commandments) it takes you to a journey on every aspect of your walk with the Lord and how it takes effect on the life of your love ones (children, wife, etc.). Not only it is a great book for families, but for Christians in general, the principles are for all, God's perfect will for us.

Pastor Rogers passed away this past week, I am sure He is in the presence of the Lord he loved so much, and of whom he spoke, wrote, lived with such a passion. God Bless.

My wife and I read and studied this book as part of a Sunday School class in '97. Adrian's book helped us realize by following God's Commandments we are in His perfect will. Problems in your family? Thinking of having a family? Young toddlers or baby? Then this book is for you!

Every parent ought to employ the Ten Secrets.

This review previously appeared in Christian Library Journal (March 1997).

Adrian Rogers' ten secrets for a successful family are the Ten Commandments. He asserts that parents who convey God's Law to their children do not merely train them, but also form thriving relationships with them.

The Ten Commandments are undeniably the foundation of morality. God commands us in Deuteronomy 6: 6, 7 to teach them to our children. However, if the state of our society is any indication, parents are failing to carry out this command.

Rogers discusses the consequences of neglecting the character education of our children. "A man who jumps out of a ten-story building doesn't break the law of gravity. He merely demonstrates it. And when you transgress God's Commandments, you are broken by them," he says.

Rogers also shows how to convey these principles. He carefully examines each commandment in the context of both Old and New Testament scripture. He seeks out the spirit of the law, rather than the letter of it. At the end of each chapter is a section entitled Turning the Commandments into Commitments, giving practical suggestions for teaching the commandments to children ages 0-6. 7-12, and 13+.

Every parent ought to discover Ten Secrets for a Successful Family.

. . .swirling around the Catholic Church today, "Thank you, Sister" is a beautiful and refreshing change.

Neither deep theology, nor modern controversy, "Thank you, Sister" is the loving memoir of a woman who spent 8 years in Catholic grammar school in the late 1950's and early 1960's. The author credits her own loving upbringing to her own eventual decision to become a teacher herself.

There is a lot of evil in the world, and some of it is in the Church itself. This book serves as a powerful reminder that there is -- and ever has been -- far more good than evil, and that good will ultimately triumph.

A heartwarming read.

This was a great refresher of memories from Catholic school that I had filed away for too long! Beverly did a great job of using the details to remind us of the bigger picture --- how fortunate we are to have been educated by people so dedicated, so loving, and so faithful to God. This is an awesome tribute, and a humorous and touching light read. Thank you, BVMs! And thank you, Beverly.

Made in Montana-and made for each other!

Clint Andrews has come to Broken Bow, Montana-to his uncle's ranch-on doctor's orders. A stressful career, an ugly divorce and a family-three kids [Justin, Brad, Megan] he adores but isn't sure he knows how to parent-have taken their toll. Now, and for the next few months, he's traded his suit and tie for jeans and cowboy boots, he's spending time with his children and he's helping out on a neighboring farm, because that's what people do in places like this.

Gail Wheeler's father's illness has brought her home to the family ranch, and she's thankful Clint is giving her parents a hand. But she's having a hard time fighting her other feelings about him-feelings that have nothing to do with gratitude. Because, although she loves having his kids around-especially four-year-old Megan, Gail knows she can never be a stepmother again.

A wonderfully moving story of two people with a change to start over...this time, together.

"This Montana Home" is a really good book. I would encourage any one who likes to read about two people just getting out of a really bad relationship and starting a new life with someone they have been looking for, to read it. No other book that I have picked up kept me wanting to read until I have finished it, but this one has. I enjoyed reading it because it made me feel as if I was a character in it. If you like to be kept on the edge of your seat until the end than you should pick this one book up and read it. Even if you don't like to read but pick it up I can almost promise you that you wont want to put this book down.

This Montana Home is a must have for your home library!

Sherry Lewis writes a story that touches the very core of your heart. Clint and Gail both have reasons not to get involved - reasons their heads keep reminding them of - reasons their hearts are ignoring. Circumstances have brought them together, but it will take something more to make their relationship work - it will take a whole lot of love.

I understand Sherry has a new book out soon, and I can tell you it won't be soon enough for me!

I loved the book, "This Old Farm". The memories it brought back to me are some that I had forgotten for many years. The writers of "This Old Farm" knew exactly what they were talking about. I could smell the odors, see the colors, feel the grass, hear the sputter of the tractors and machines. It brought tears to my eyes as it brought back memories of my life on a farm while I was growing up.

I have read all three books and I find the whole trilogy fantastic. I been read the first and second book and I was hoping she would write a cont. to it, which she did. But by time the third one came in i forgot what was going on, so i started all over and it was like I never read the story because I enjoyed reading each and every word all over again. I really love this story. I felt like this book was talking about me in some parts because I have run into a few racial problems myself. My own kind have problems with my color, which I am red skinned.Keep the good work Ms. Jackson

I wonder is it true in the last book I saw it suppose to be a forth book. If so can't wait.
