Whether moving across the street, across town or across the country, this book offers tips and suggestions to remove the burden and drudgery that so often accompany a move. Filled with helpful ideas ranging from how to keep the kids occupied on moving day to negotiating a professional movers contract, this book is a real help. Another noted feature are the book's extra wide margins on which to make notes. This book would be handy if it were offered on computer disk or CD, so that the user could print out the checklists for use with every move

The minute I picked up this book, I could not put it down. There are so many great ideas in it, that it makes it almost impossible not to try to be a little bit more organized. I work in Advertising and it's been a great help. It's come in handy when I'm designing because it has such a great sense of space, structure and balance. This book is a must for anyone who needs help getting organized.

Dawna Walter should be considered one of England's national treasures! Her book has amazing tips for organizing the home. The book is cleverly divided into sections by room type. Each section has different examples, tips and lots of beautiful photos. Unlike other books on orhanizing the home Walter's does not consist soley of starkly modern interiors devoid of posessions. My favorite tip is to have storage under steps in a stairwell. It's hard to explain, but a picture;s worth a thousand words and the book has plenty! Definitely a book that you will come back to again and again.

An Excellent Resource for Discipleship

In our days where evangelical churches emphasize quick decisions, mechanical 'the sinner's prayer', numbers, fun and programs without earnest efforts in discipleship, I consider Sproul's "Pleasing God" one of my highly recommended materials (another one is J.C Ryle's "Holiness") for new Christians to grow in grace in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. The book contains basic doctrines of sin, justification, atonement, sanctification, assurance and exhortation to persevere to the end. Even for mature Christians, there is nothing wrong to go back to the basics. As always, Prof. Sproul, whose writing style tends to resemble that of C.S. Lewis', mixes doctrines, applications and examples, some of which are taken from his own testimonies and experiences.

As a new Christian I hunger to know God, to know His will for me, and to understand my place in this world. RC provides practical guidance for that purpose. In Pleasing God, as in all his books, I find his logical, analytical and humorous approach to theology completely engaging. Each chapter centers around an issue we must face, such as the battle with the flesh, then describes real world examples and addresses the appropriate Christian response through scripture passages and our Lord's perfect example. I highly recommend this along w/Sproul's other treasures, such as Almighty Over All, The Holiness of God, and Chosen by God.

Very informative, with many basic ingredients readily available at stores. Sections covered on car care, cooking (good basic recipes), gardening, beauty, health, home repair and remodeling, housekeeping, crafts, pet care (with pet food recipes), and outdoor life. If you are interested in going to natural products for cleaning, etc., this is a good reference book. I enjoyed perusing all 450-some-odd pages in one evening. A real "Tightwad Gazette" type book.
Full of useful formulas.

This book is the type that you refer to for cleaning ideas first, before you try something with lots of chemicals. There are basic recipes in here for cooking, cleaning and insect control. There are recipes for herbal cold cures, car care and more. This is a very useful book. I refer to it quiet a bit before I run out and try to buy something to control ants, clean my carpet or fight a cold.

I think this book is great for someone looking for ideas. While the ideas are not all new, they are very practical. Their ideas range from baskets under sinks, to holders for pens and pencils, to shoe holders and ideas for clothes, as well as ideas for kitchens, bathrooms, offices, and all living spaces. This book also offers ideas for different types of ideas, from the pure and simple design oriented, to the show off type [displaying all or almost all items], to the industrial type. The only thing missing in the book is good ideas for books. There were a few ideas given, but not as creative as I would have liked. Over all, this is a great book offering many ideas for those looking storage. The photographs are clean and simple and give the reader an idea of what it might look like.
Not so great on ideas, but big on design

Although this book does not offer any new ideas on the basis of storage (baskets,sheleves,etc...) it is another excellent overall design book. The pictures are exquisite and demonstrate design concepts not offered in other books. If you are strictly looking for storage ideas, this may not give you anything new (unless this is your first book on the subject). But a good book for an interior design buff nevertheless.

This is definitely an informative and straight forward book. The author clearly has experience in the business and helps with everything from a one-man part-time business to a multi-crew high-rise business. My only complaint would be that someone actually take the time to proofread the book. There are so many spelling errors, gramatical errors and just pagination problems that you become a bit distracted from the great content contained within the book. This is especially shocking when you read the author's bio on the back cover and realize that he teaches English! Oh well, don't let these problems deter you from buying this book. It really is an outstanding source of information.

"The Window Cleaning Business: How To Start, Run, And Build A Profitable Window Cleaning Business" is a thoroughly 'user friendly', 400-page, comprehensive 'how to' manual on creating and operating a profitable enterprise cleaning windows for any size business in any size building. A former director with the International Window Cleaning Association, author John Baxter draws upon his many years of experience and expertise to articulately explain how to create and register a window cleaning business, as well as how to chose a company name, the proper equipment required, how to advertise and solicit business, keep accounts, organize the office, bid on house and storefront windows, hire employees, keep and process governmentally required paperwork, and every other aspect of a professional window cleaning business operation. A perfect option as a home-based enterprise, "The Window Cleaning Business" can be confidently considered as the 'bible' for creating and operating a window cleaning service in virtually any American community.

Our accountant recommended this book, and I am sure glad he did. I read it in just a few days because it was so interesting. This isn't a typical "get rich" book since I found that the author was definitely trying to teach the reader how to rethink the way he or she views money. Some people might think that he is holding back by not going more into detail about how he made his millions, but trust me, if you read between the lines and really pay attention, he does give you some hints on how he got started. He does reinforce a lot of his information, but he is a teacher, and teachers I find are usually repetitive to make sure that they get their points across. This is a great starter book for anyone looking to make their money work for them. And for those of you with children, this book (or Rich Dad for Teens) will help get them on the right track.

I started really late in the game. Employed in dead-end jobs for the most part, it was only in my mid-thirties that I really began to get serious about money. If you're like me and don't know anyone to talk to about the matter, Kiyosaki's book is an adequate start, if only to help you rewire your brain into that zone of financial consciousness.
While Rich Dad, Poor Dad doesn't have all the answers and, as other reviewers have cited, may arguably contain disputable advice, the book has successfully encouraged me to learn more about financial education. And for that, four stars.

Ok, let's skip the fact that by Kiyosaki's own admission, both dads were to a great extent fabricated.
Let's skip the fact that many of the experiences in this book were either embellished or outright fabricated.
Let's skip the fact that much of what he speaks of is in generalities without specific details.
What remains are pleasant-sounding platitudes, lacking in the real-life specifics that most people need. To say that "The poor work for their money, while the rich have their moeny work for them" sounds nice, but is of very little help to someone lacking a compass.
About the only thing that I agree with Kiyosaki on is the fact that our schools (at all levels) lack any kind of personal finance educational curriculum. This is an absolute travesty, but understandable when you consider that our nation is running record budget deficits. When debt is a way of life, people tend to accept it as a given in their own situation.
I've known several people who are devotees of this book series. None (as in zero) have made a discernable difference in their lives. Most are also devotees of MLMs such as Amway, Quixtar and MonaVie...the common thread here being the desire to suceed (which is admirable), but the unwillingness to get the degree, the job and put in the time. Another Kiyosaki theme of "Become a real estate investor!" sounds great on paper, but without the education and training can potentially be a disaster. No one book (or series like this) can prepare someone for an entire career.
If you want to learn how to handle money, try Suze Orman, Dave Ramsey or Lou Rukeyser. The fact that this series is a bestseller, does NOT necessarily mean the series has merit. It simply means that there is a market for baseless hope and optimism. I am sure Kiyosaki is laughing all the way to the bank.

As this bestselling novel opens Sidda, a 40 something successful theater director, is in the midst of a feud with her mother. Her mother, Vivi, had disowned her after Sidda had made public some family secrets. Fortunately for them both Vivi's lifelong friends, the 'Ya-Ya's, had urged Vivi to send Sidda their scrapbook to allow her into their lives to better understand where they, and Sidda herself had come from. As Sidda begins to delve into the Ya-Ya's secrets she unearths scraps of their past, scraps that are fortunately expanded on for the reader as first the deep secret of Sidda's life, then Vivi's and even Vivi's own mother are revealed to give insight into what has lead to this impass.
This novel was wildly popular when it was first published (1996) and has held up well. The reader will probably be a few steps ahead of Sidda as she begins to unravel the mysteries of her childhood but will find the journey both enjoyable and thought provoking anyway. The Divine Secrets will provide a few hours of enjoyable reading, might just deprive the reader of a few hours missed sleep as they just must read just a bit more, and will give the reader a few things to take away in the end.
This is definitely a book to slip into a teenagers book bag as a gentle reminder that they may not be the center of the universe after all.

This book is supposed to be funny. This book is supposed to make you cry. The only thing you may laugh and cry at is the notion that this book is worthy of any real emotion evoked in the reader. It's a book about boring, utterly selfish women who live their lives for themselves and ONLY for themselves. Children? Well who are their children to demand any special devotion from these women? No, these women deem themselves extremely special, above everyone. Above their children. Vivi doesn't want to see her own daughter shine because she hangs onto some ridiculous notion that is is she, Vivi, who should have been the star. What kind of mother is Vivi? Vivi is the type who beats, ignores, and shames her children. Vivi is the type of mother who - if the truth is said about her - banishes her children from her life. Vivi is a sad character, utterly self obsessed. Her friends are not as self absorbed as Vivi perhaps...but they are so completely immature...never evolving...that they are nearly as much as a turn off as Vivi.
Sidda is a boring character who seems to have bought into the Vivi's notion that Vivi hung the moon. It's a story of hero worship...one boring woman (Sidda) admiring a mother whose full affections she can never fully have (Vivi). Vivi even declares that her daughter will never be allowed to know her.
I have kids. Do you? Would you ever put yourself SO far above your own child? Would you treat your children as if, no matter how hard they worked, they would never deserve to fully know you?
Vivi would.
Terrible, terrible story about utterly unlikeable people. Read at your own risk! You will not get these hours back.

I'm only on page 83 and I'm about to ditch the book.
It's not engaging. I can't relate to the characters. Their "adventures" are trite. The way they relate to each other is not realistic. If the main character, Sidda, was as badly abused as she implies, there is no reason for her to idolize her mother the way she does. The plot is disjointed, jumping from Sidda's narration to the mother's memories, without any kind of clear transition.
Furthermore, the French is just AWFUL. You'd think the author would check with a French speaker before she commits such errors as "Comprendez-vous" or "les petites pauvres" (when she means poor little ones, not little poor people) to print. Or at least the EDITOR should have checked!!!

Read this book cover-to-cover for an in-depth look at the personal cost of reconciling difficult relationships.
If you lean toward standard Christianity you'll likely be distracted by the book's decidedly extra-Christian faith struggles. Readers who lean toward a more ecumenical understanding of God-is-love will appreciate the personal, private rituals the characters develop as much as for help in coping with pain as for connecting with something--anything--beyond the pain of the present.
Glancing at reviews on Amazon, the consensus seems to be that the book is a light-weight narrative that is only slightly believable. Not believable? Lucky you. Caution to those with unaddressed significant family issues: This book is an in-your-face emotional journey. If you're not ready for it, put the book in the give-away pile and buy it again after you've spent a few years seriously working on forgiveness, reconciliation, and peace.
Otherwise, grab your box of Kleenex, send the family away for the weekend, and have yourself a good, cathartic release.

The Great Gatsby is a book that you will appreciate for a long time after your done with it. I couldn't put it down from the second I started reading it. The characters are finely crafted and the storyline a hit as you meet Nick and Gatsby and the different lives they lead until one day they are both wonderfully and tragically intertwined. I found myself saddened to both the book ending and the outcome of the story but I have a greater respect for both F. Scott Fitzgerald and the 1920's because of reading it.

This is a master piece in literature and should be read not only by student but everyone who enjoy a good written book. It is richly set in the jazz era and portraits the life and shallowness of Gatsby the main character. An impossible love and the empty life he lives in pursue of this undeserving girl. A great work of art.

F. Scott Fitzgerald's timeless classic is evocative, stirring and unsettling. I had not read this book in thirty years and decided to re-read it while looking for another book at the library. I can now understand why leading experts believe this is one of the best if not the best American novel in the last one hundred years. It has it all: lost love, class struggle, deceit, betrayal and murder. Fitzgerald's descriptive prose is exquisite. His imagery shines every step of the way. I highly recommend reading this great American novel!

Surely everything has been said before. BUT, I shall point out that if you like Gatsby, you will probably love Fitzgerald's short stories as well. Also, there are several interesting books written about F.Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda--two truly compelling people who lived somewhat reckless rock star lives long before we watched rock stars burn out on MTV reality shows.
