Brandon Mull continues to surprise me with his latest installment of the Fablehaven novels. His writing is simple but continues to captivate attention. And yes, questions are finally answered. There is however, the on going plot to save Fablehaven from immediate distruction, But there are many sub-plots and twists that add to the novel as a whole. I am a fan and will continue to read Fablehaven and look forward to Mull's next installment. This book is for people of all ages and (in my opinion) will captivate audiences over the years to come.

Fablehaven is going to be very big!!! I haven't been this excited about a series since Harry potter! I highly recommend these books!!

Great read for an adult or child. Excellent way to escape reality with a little fantasy. I would recommend to anyone who loves to read.

Each book in the Fablehaven series gets better and better. Quite exciting and enjoyable. I couldn't put it down. These are books that you want to read in one setting if you have the time. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy.

My daughter is absolutely crazy about this series. I picked up the first book by chance and she's read it three times already. She wouldn't leave me alone about it till we got her the second book. And now the third. Before this one arrived, she was reading two other books. The day it arrived, she put the other books she was reading back on the shelf and has yet to put this one down. Any book that can have that kind of effect on a 12 year old is just amazing in my opinion.

Excellent, cannot say enough about how this man explains the grieving psyche. Moves beyond everything else that is written. Although my loss was not as terrible as his I could identify with everything he said. It is so good to have someone confirm that it is something that we go through and, perhaps more importantly, what we can get through.

Would recommend this to all who have undergone loss in any form.

I am going through a very difficult time in my life and was advised to read A Grace Disguised. This book offers an amazing insight into the grieving process and acknowledges that everyone's healing process is completely unique to them. I felt encouraged and rejuvenated knowing that I could relate to the many emotions experienced by the author and so many others who may also be going through similar scenarios but have had their emotions or actions repressed and even belittled. I strongly recommend everyone read this book because it not only offers personal growth during troublesome times, it also may help guide those who have a friend or loved one experiencing a difficult loss to offer stronger support.

After our daugher's accidental death two years ago, my husband and I read many books on grieving and loss. Sittser's book was the most helpful to us in processing our own grief, offering not pithy platitudes, but thought-provoking reflections out of the author's own catastrophic loss. We have bought many copies of this book for friends going through difficult times because it is relevant to those who suffer loss of any kind.

The book, A Grace Disguised, changed my life. A doctor actually "prescribed" it for me, after the death of my daughter and her fiance. After hearing so many people blunder through callus pharses they hoped would make me feel better it was a great relief to spend time with someone who actually knew how I felt.
Many, in my family, have read this book. My husband's life was changed, as was my own. We have given this book to countless others who are in the midst of grief. We always keep several copies on hand. My husband, who is new to online buying, bought these copies. When they started arriving in Spainsh we were both a little confused. He had somehow gotten over to the Spanish version with out knowing it. We can only deduce that we're about to meet spainsh speaking grievers in need of comfort.
As you can probably tell by reading this, I am not Richard, I am his wife, secretary and best friend.

Jerry Sittser knows loss. He deals with the most difficult aspects of grief. He understands and leads us to healing. Of all the books I've read over the past year, this one was by far the best and most helpful in dealing with the death of my loved one.

I thought this was one of the best of the hundereds of books I have read during my short 12 year-old life (I read ALOT). I like the way Karl turns out to be the good-guy and Eric was a vicious terrorist battling the Naizs by killing inocent civilians. I did like the way it started, better than most.

A truly amazing story of love and adventure, a definite read for anyone who longs for romance.

Cameron Dokey definately hit the mark creating an adventerous and romantic story line. However, I wasn't thrilled with the way the book was written. Too much information was repeated over and over. Instead of showing us the action and leaving the reader the joy of drawing inferences, the narrator, Anna, reveals every thought. These internal revelations came so frequently, I had a hard time believing Anna's conclusion at the end of the novel. The story was thrilling, but the characters didn't pop.

Hindenburg 1937 by Cameron Dokey is a great read, because it consists of romance, history, and a tad bit of adventure. I found myself not wanting to put it down because I so wanted to find out what would happen next. This book never gets boring, because there is always so much drama and events going on within the pages.
The main character is Anna Becker, a brave, young woman living in Germany. Her grandfather never finished his dying wish, but he was holding tickets for the trans-Atlantic voyage on the Hindenburg. Anna takes this as a sign to board the plane, despiter her fears. After all, if she doesn't leave her brother might marry her off so he can advance as a Nazi. Anna has bigger dreams than a housewife, which is another reason she takes the journey. She takes total trust in a stranger boarding the Hindenburg, because traveling alone is not safe. She soon finds out that his name is Erik Peterson and she really gets along with him until she sees that her first true love, Karl Mueller, is also on the plane, working for Germany.
This book has lots of twists and turns, so you'll be sure to stay interested. The festivities on the plane are always exciting and its fun to go along with Anna'a adventure. What is even more enjoying is the love triangle that is soon created. This book also refers to the voyage from history that changed Germany forever. The book is not a difficult one, and it's also easy to fall in love with the awesome plot.

This is the most beautiful historical romance fiction I've ever read. Anna must escape her brother in order to persue a future of her choice, instead of letting her brother choose it for her. So she aboards the Hindenburg and the excitement begins. I love this book to no ends even with its terrifying ending. Why Cameron, why??? I just have one last question: why choose a sad and-you know it's true- horrible ending when the story could've ended with me smiling in pleasure with hope, instead of me crying and believing that fate is truly twisted when it comes to love?

my name is dean and i live in farmingdale---- about two months ago Mr. Carrieri appeared a Borders book store and spoke about his experiences as Yankee Batboy in the 50s---- his eperiences were fastinating. His hero was Joe Dimaggio wh kept his promise to young joe and Joe Carrieri kept his prmise to the reeaders who share his love of the game. Dimaggio may not have been a hero to everyone but he was a hero on the field and that was the focus of the story. The writing was clean and the read fast----I loved it.

WHAT RIGHT DOES A WRITER HAVE TO REVEAL THE INNER MOST SECRETS OF A PERSON BE HE BEGGAR KING. IT IS NOBODIES BUSINESS TO READ THAT DIMAGGIO WAS GREEDY OR CHEAP.THAT IS WHY I LIKED THE PROMISE. IT DESCRIBED A GREAT BASEBALL PLAYER WHO SYMBOLIZED GRACE AND STYLE-AN AGE OF INNOCENCE-WHEN PLAYERS PLAYED FOR THE FUN OF IT-

This book is sorely lacking an afterward describing the historical background and/or references. If it's based in reality, why the need to fictionalize the story? The actions of the Israelis appeared either unmotivated by any logic or out-and-out sadistic. The book did not build to a logical climax and resolution. The author started many plot strands that simply fizzled out--Jamal's strange behavior about the necklace, for instance, and his need of a picture of Violette. The scene where Karim studies history would have been a good place to add some objective history of the region, if the author had wanted to.

"A Little Piece of Ground" is the story of Karim Aboudi, 12, a soccer buff and computer game junkie. Like so many boys his age, Karim hopes one day to do just what he likes without parents, big brothers, or teachers telling him what to do. Unlike many other boys, though, Karim lives under Israeli occupation in Ramallah, Palestine.

"A Little Piece of Ground" shows what life is like for Palestinians who see their homes destroyed by Israeli bulldozers or face road blocks, military check points, and embarrassing strip searches, simply while trying to get to work or school.

As the story begins, Karim is confined in his small apartment, where his taunting brother, pesky sisters, and protective parents give him no rest. A two-week curfew ordered by the Israeli military prevents Karim from going to school, visiting his best friend Joni, or playing soccer with his pals. That is, until the curfew lifts and his buddies discover a wrecked space near the refugee camps, "a little piece of ground," that the boys rebuild as a soccer field. As the boys struggle to reclaim a space where they can be free, their effort symbolizes the struggle to liberate Palestine.

This book is a great book for any teen or adult. It gives the reader a great persepective of daily life in the Palestinian territories. It shows that children are children even under the most brutal of occupations. Like all children, they are growing up, trying to get independence, underestimating the dangers they face, boys liking girls, getting preoccupied with wether their friends are cool or not, boys wanting to play soccer, or computer games or whatever. All this under the shadow of Israeli collective punishment.
I wish there were more books that show the rest of the world the realities of life in the occupied territories.

This book is an authentic account of the circumstances that prevailed in Ramallah in the year 2000 and how Palestinian children were influenced by them. The main character aspires to be a champion soccer star and all he wants to do is play, play, play with his friends. The ground he lives on keeps shrinking under his feet as he and his teenage friends clear the rubble froma small lot near a refugee camp to make a soccer field. They come face to face with Israeli soldiers and tanks and are nearly killed. They survive and go on.For the first time we have a vivid and well written account of Palestinian children as human beings.

'A Little Piece of Ground' is a moving story that depicts the human aspect of the Palestinian struggle for freedom. Through the eyes of Karim, a 12-year-old Palestinian boy living in captivity, Elizabeth Laird captures the endless suffering of the Palestinian people under the Israeli occupation. This book is a pressing reminder that Palestinians, both young and old, continue to long for freedom.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to hear the story told from the other side, the side that is rarely heard in the American media.

Raising a child outside of a congregation can be a lonely experience. Although my husband and I are both atheists, and are part of the freethought community, there's little in the way of family resources available to us.

Along comes this book. I had high hopes, though I somewhat expected to be disappointed; the first time someone does something, it doesn't always come out that well. Imagine my surprise when I found myself learning so much about what it is to be a child without a church, even though I had been one. I remember my mother and father groping their way in the dark through various situations, and though they did pretty well, I imagine it would have been a lot easier with something like this to guide them.

This is a permanent part of our parenting library, and I recommend it to parents whenever I get a chance!

This isn't just a good book for raising your kids secularly, it's a good book about parenting period. It discusses issues like how to deal with death, how to deal with people who don't necessarily believe the same as you and your family does and how to raise your children to be ethical human beings. There are definitely some essays that are more aimed at the atheists among us, but this is a good read for all parents.

I'm an atheist and have read extensively on the subject, but practical advice for child rearing has always been lacking in this area, so I had high expectations for this book. The reviews here all seem to be excellent, so I was expecting a lot more than I received.

The book is basically a collection of anecdotes from various writers. I don't have a problem with this format, but some of the writers didn't even have children. This was perhaps done to give a perspective from a child's viewpoint of what atheism is about, but I didn't really need this perspective. Again, I have read so many other books that having someone discuss what it means to be an atheist isn't helpful when I was expecting a book about raising children.

The other aspect of this book is that the principle writers seem to be more of the "angry" or missionary atheists, mostly wanting to convince people of the benefits of atheism. Again, I don't need to be converted, I've been an atheist now for over 20 years. The less preachy of the writers was Dwakins, so you can imagine what the others were like.

I hate to provide the lowest review of this book to date, but I think people buying this book should know what to expect. This is not a book that will answer any questions for you and others have noted this in their reviews as well, but it should be emphasized. It will however give you reassurance that you're not the only person with these questions. Still, if you've been an atheist a long time, you're likely not going to read anything new or insightful in this book.

I found this collection of short chapters by various humanist writers on how to instill morality and ethics in children without religion to be a real joy. The authors (including the editor) are clever, humorous, and kind-hearted. Despite their obvious intelligence, they do not talk down to the reader, and many chapters could be understood even by pre-adolescents. I am a ex-Christian who now embraces science and humanism, and often feel alone in a country saturated by mainstream religions and their seemingly endless resources. That kind of isolation is bearable for an adult (though not pleasant), but I was really worried about raising a child without the communities that religions offer. Yet, I don't want to hide my beliefs just so my child will be accepted in a group that has the finances to provide a nice building to go to, with fun activities that include large numbers of kids her age. I found encouragement that I am not alone, and that there are at least a few secular organizations who are trying to provide activities for children that are based on the wonders of science, naturalism, and philosophy instead of indoctrination into the intolerant attitudes of religious dogma. Once my child passes the infant stage, I will try to volunteer at some of them to help perpetuate their growth. Thank you Mr. McGowan!

I'd say this is the best book out there for knowing it's ok, even good, to raise your child to make her own decisions about religion. It's good to have many different views from intelligent, good people who are doing it with love and care, and that you are not alone. I also like the fact that a few even come right out and say what I have thought but didn't dare express, that brain-washing kids to believe they are being watched every second and will burn in hell for snitching a cookie from the cookie jar is "mental terrorism". This concept terrified me my entire childhood and I promise I won't do it to my child!
I also liked the reference guides to finding good books for children about religions without teaching them that one is right and the rest are wrong. Also helped with the "Santa" issue. Definitely recommended.

This novel is absolutely wonderful....it is one that you will never part with ..... you will keep Lori Jean close to your heart and never forget the beautiful and tragic pages of the story as it is told so perfectly by our 10 year old little friend.....Please do yourself a favor and READ this book as soon as you can get your hands on it!! It is one for the ages!!

This was a fantastic read!! I couldn't put it down and finished it within 12 hours! (I should have been sleeping...) This story will break your heart and you will fall in love with Lori Jean. This was a fabulous book that I would recommend to any avid reader.

This book is not only a page turner, but it pulls you into the characters. It is well written and a must read!

J.L.Miles is a undiscovered treasure. I couldn't order her next book fast enough, "Coldwater Creek". It is turning out to be another fantastic read. She really gets it. The characters are so real. I love southern fiction and Ms. Miles did not let me down. I feel I have gained better understanding of other peoples' "worlds". I learn something from each of her books. I have already ordered, "Divorcing Dwayne". Ms. Miles writes with heartwarming HUMOR and wisdom.

This book was a page turner! I finished it in two readings - couldn't put it down until I found out what happened to Lori Jean. This story is very sad but well worth your time. I definitely recommend it.

I've read alot of books.. Richie has to be my favorite Author, she is genius her plots are amazing. and she knows how to make you feal just like teh charcter, I have to say i prefer her series the unseen, but this is probably my favorite book of hers after those..

Meg and Hannah get stranded in their house when a snow storm hits.
Their mom and dad are stuck at the airport and can't get home.Hannah broke up with her boyfriend.He calls the house and tells Hannah he knows she's seeing someone else and that he'll kill her first before he let's someone else have her.Then Meg hears about a escaped killer on the loose and he's headed their way.Suddenly two strangers show up at their door claiming to have had a car accident. One of the is bleeding so Meg feels sorry for them and let's them in.Then alot of weird things happen like
their axe is missing ,also their dog,the snowman, the face in the window with the ski mask.Is it Kurt trying to scare Hannah or is it the escaped Killer? Or are the strangers Lance and Jhonathan who they really say they are?

Someone at the Door is the best most suspenseful book I've ever read! It has only one little inappropriate part, but i read it and never even think about it. the characters are all teens. The parents of two young girls are gone. Then, two young strangers show up at their door. This is a whirlwind of suspense and murder!!!!!!!!! you'll love it!!!!!!!!
It's da bomb!

Someone at the Door has been one of the best books i have ever read. I can read it over and over again. I have pretty much worn out the book that I have. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to anybody. It has everything suspence, romance, and a crazy twist.

This book is about Hannah and her younger sister Meg who is in ninth grade. They get stranded at home during a huge blizzard, and their parents are not home (I forget where they are), so it is just the two of them and their dog. To make matters worse, the two girls heard on the radio that there is a killer loose.

The first night of the blizzard, there is a knock on the door. Two young men, Lance and Jonathon, have been hurt and need a place to stay to wait out the blizzard. At first Hannah is wary about letting them in the house since they are strangers, but she lets them in anyways. During the next few days, strange things begin to happen that can't be explained. Hannah doesn't know who to suspect for these strange happenings, especially because she doesn't even know these two guys.

The ending of this book is very brilliant and unpredictable, simply because it does not end like usual scary stories. On the other hand, the ending was a bit disappointing to me because it wasn't as fun as I had hoped it to be. However, I am sure that this is because I have read too many generic horror stories. I really think that fans of Cusick's will enjoy it, but it was not my favorite book written by her.

In some (if not all) of the versions of the Teen Study Bible I have noticed just one of the Dear Sam letters that I don't agree with. When Sam wrote back to someone saying Blasphemy is an unforgivalble sin, I knew unless you reformed and turned to GOD, blasphemy can indeed be forgiven. It is a wonderful thing what Jesus, Son of God has done for us! To forgive all our sins. No sin is unforgivable. No sin is. Not one. The only way a sin is unforgivable is if you commit sins and never accept what Jesus did. Then how could your sins be forgiven? The choice of accepting Christ as savior is a matter of eternal life and death. Jesus makes it very clear that HE is the truth, the way, and the life!God is all powerful! In Luke 10 it says that "Whoever sins against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever says evil things against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven." That verse merely means that only if you sin and do evil things against the Holy Spirit, you apparently do not have the Holy Spirit, and without the Holy Spirit, you can't accept Christ.
However, maybe Sam knew that. (And I'm sure she did). I just think it could be more clear. It is completely your choice wheather to NEVER accept Jesus, therefore if you are WILLING to avoid the point where you hate the Holy Spirit and never WANT to come back into the grace if GOD, than you shall be saved! The LORD is wonderful. Sam's letters are great and empowering. Jesus loves Sam spreading HIS WORD.

This is a GREAT Bible for teens because it is understandable, yet not cheesy. I love it! It makes it understandable and it includes a Bible Study plan showing what book of the bible to start and show how often you should read to finish it in 1 year or 2 years. Also includes real life situations...questions, answers, THIS is the book you need to get through LIFE!!

Being 14 years old I thought that the only Christan stuff cool enough for me was hardcore Chirstan rock. This book has proved me wrong. I know that BEHOLD THE BOOGNISH! I WILL CONQUER YOU AND YOUR PATHIC SHEEPISH WAYS everything about the Bible is totally awesome!...

My mom says that when she was, like, a teen or something, she couldn't understand the bible because it said like "Thou" and stuff and other words that sound like books written by old people. That's why she went to the mall and got me this bible because it's more, like, modern or something? Whatever -- it ROCKS.

The Bible normally seems confusing, rigid, and boring. This Bible is quite the opposite! The bible is colorful, easy-to read and UNDERSTAND! It definately makes the bible enjoyable and fun. The notes and other added things really help teens. I got this Bible as a 18 year old and still interesting at 19(although I am thinking about up-grading to a Woman's Bible).

Definately recommend to any pre-teen or teen!

Although I'm in high school, I recently reread the book and found it refreshing. It's not very sophisticated, but it is a nice read. Also, Jacob's reactions to events in his life were quite... intriguing, to say the least.

What would you do if your mom died, and your Dad did not even know about it? Then your step Dad was going to send you away to your closest relatives really far away. Thunder Cave is the first book in a three book series, about a young teenager who was in a similar situation. The boy had a lot of courage, love and friendship that was beautifully written by Ronald Smith.
Thunder Cave is an emotional book about a boy named Jacob Lansa who is14 years old and from New York. His parents are separated and he lives with his Mom and her husband, Sam. His Dad is in Kenya helping the elephants survive the major drought. After his mother dies from a car accident Jacob has nowhere else to go because Sam is leaving. Sam tries to send Jacob to Nebraska to his closest relatives. But Jacob decided he wanted to be with his Dad. His Dad couldn't be reached, so he went on a courageous journey to Kenya on his own. He went through tough times. He got mugged, he runs low on money and he almost dies. But all of a sudden a remarkable friend came along and helped him. His friend was like rope that he held on to forever. Together they encountered elephant poachers who wanted to kill them. They also had to perform a rain dance to make it rain because of the drought.
Thunder Cave is one of the best books I have ever read. I liked it because no matter what happened to Jake he never gave up. I would recommend it to anybody who likes action and adventure books because it takes Jacob on an adventure that he and you will never forget.

this is a great book! this storey took place in kenya africa. a boy named jacoob lansa is looking for his father dr. robert lansa a feild biologist trying to save the african elephants. when jacoob nearly dies an african native man named supeet finds jacoob and helps jacoob find his dad! great book!!!

This book is a total eye opener. I recommend it to all readers my age. It's a total surprise. You'll be glued to the book as you turn each page. This exciting book will be one of your favorites. I read his other Crypted Book Sasquatch and it was amazing.

I met the author, Roland Smith, when he visited my elementary school years ago, and he made such an impact on me that I have never forgotten him or this book. I have re-read it at least half a dozen times, and the imagery and fantastic plot and message make this one of my all-time favorite books from my childhood. The great thing is that he really knows his stuff- he's worked with animals for years and traveled around the world, so his stories have an authentic feel rather than I'm-pretending-to-know-what-I'm-talking-about-but-really-don't. I would easily recommend this to any kid interested in a well written adventure and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
