This is abosolutely the very best book I have read on e-business. The authors takes you by the hand on every step; from learning about software and hardware to security. In a Time when e-business springs a lot of fakes this is the book that will make anyone confortable with this facinating facet of doing business.

This book explains with real world examples, all the technical aspects of Ebusiness such as catalogues, security and payments. It also guides through the overlooked areas of integration such as legacy systems and supply chain automation.Although the chapter on Trust and Security could have been more expanded.Anyone wishes to setup an online ebusiness store should read this book to avoid the basic pitfall.

I have been hearing about this e-Business stuff and associated acronynms for a while now: B2B, B2C, e-Commerce, EDI, m-Commerce..on and on. No book had so far explained to me what it all means to a DBA like me. This book finally explain in clear and simple terms what all the hoopla is about.

The author uses simple and clear language in explaining the issues that really matter to DBAs....both technical and non-technical aspects of the e-Business environment are covered in this book.

Thank you Meghraj for the wonderful explanation and clearing the myths.

This book is an excellent source of information for Oracle DBAs that work in an e-Business environment. I have read a number of books on e-Business and Oracle but this book does a superb job in showing what e-Business means to an Oracle DBA like me.
I especially liked the chapters on availability and security. Each page in those chapters contains very good stuff. In my company, high availability and security is a must and the techniques shown in the book are a lifesaver. e.g. encryption techniques, implementing redundancy, security loop holes and so on.

Packed with useful information

I have been an Oracle DBA for over 10 years now and am in the process of transitioning from a "traditional" DBA to an "internet" DBA. This book has helped me enormously in understanding the various issues and solutions related to using Oracle with the Web. Each chapter of the book is packed with valuable information. The author does a great job in explaining the issues involved in such projects and also provides real-world tips and techniques for achieving availability, scalability, security and performance in e-Businesses using Oracle. I highly recommend this book as a good read and ready reference for Oracle DBAs, Developers and even Project Managers of Web-based projects and e-Business initiatives that make use of Oracle

I bought this book after a lot of research. I think Noel Jerke has a done a great job on laying out the book. This book will last a long time due to its simplicity and code resuability.
I give 5 stars to the book. The only minus is that the code on CD is not complete and is missing a lot of code which is covered on the book. Nevertheless, it gave me what I am looking for I have designed a site referencing the book. www.siweiinternational.com.
Great job Noel.

This simply the excellent book. I have Noel's other book named e-commerce developer's guide which is simply excellent too. And both books complete the topic e-commerce best way. These two books use enterprize level database, uses stored procedures, Active server pages to make websites which are excellent and can modify in any way reader can think, I mean database connectivety is flexble enough to adapt to most scenerios. Good thing is that most of webhosting providers are happy to host these type of sites because of least use of dll components, I mean i have never faced any problem with webhost providers becuase I use the same method as given in Noels books of e-commerce.

This is a topic that is long overdue. One only need look at the headlines of how some e-merchants badly fouled up fulfillment this holiday and the prior one to realize how invaluable this book is for e-commerce. Especially useful are the checklists, work-sheets and the exensive research Ms. Bayles did in finding pertinent sites that have a bearing on the topic. This is a book that, in contrast to others on e-commerce, will never go out of date.

I run one of those few start ups that has survivied. I've had several offers from competitors in the brick and motar world to buy my business. Some offers were very interesting and others I've since learned were less than honest. Keogh's book helps me identify good candidates for purchasing my company and shows me serious pitfalls to avoid. This is a good little book that explains all the ins and outs about e-mergers and buying and selling a company. I highly recommend this book.

I owned one of those start up dot coms that found a niche in the market and actually made a profiting when funding dried up. I had offers from a number of established traditional companies to take over my business. Fortunately, I stumbled over this book in time to avoid making potentially costly mistakes. I strongly recommend anyone thinking of selling their e-business to read this book before looking for buyers. You'll avoid a lot of pitfalls.

A must for anyone thinking about selling or buying a dot com

Ken Allard of Jupiter Media Metrix is correct when he says this book is a comprehensive guide to M&A for anyone who wants to acquire cheap assets and build a winner from the rubble. Keogh walks you through all the fine details of buying and selling a dot com. I found particularly interesting the coverage of real world experiences of those who have worked through their own deals. It's as if you're getting the how to's and what worked what to avoid all in one very readable book. Good job.

This book is different that a lot of the other eBay stuff available. It's more like a value guide. There's a lot of insight into finding cheap prices and bidding to keep prices low in here. I especially like the insight on finding travel bargains and cheap business wear, two of my favorite things to buy on eBay.

I thought I was an expert - what a fun book!

This book gave me tons of new ideas about how to shop on ebay. I didn't know that I could buy such interesting items - Pizza? It's written in an easy to read style, and I actually laughed out loud while I was reading it. Some of the stuff I knew, but I really learned a lot about the different areas of ebay that I hadn't visited before. I also found some new ideas on how to get deals. It's a fun book at a great price, I'm giving it as a holiday gift to all my friends who are always asking me about ebay.

Great idea!

I've been shopping on eBay (as well as Amazon :-) for years. But my mother and mother-in-law are both novices. They're always bugging me with, "What's this eBay thing? What can I get on there? My friend completed her discontinued china set on eBay.." All with the gist of "How can I do this too." As soon as I saw this book was coming out, I picked up two copies of it (mother in laws are rarely great sharers) and gave it to them. Finally! They get what eBay is all about. They know how to set up their user accounts, how the "store" is laid out, how to uncover the best deals and, most importantly for them, how to stay safe when buying on eBay. Now, they're ready to get off and running. In fact, they picked up so much great information, they even taught me a few things (no more staying up late waiting for an auction to end in order to swoop in with the best bid!) This book is great! It's an easy read, and you can jump around to find the points that are most relevant to you. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to become an eBay power shopper.

It's a fascinating read that highlights the Internet's incredible power in bringing people, causes and issues together in the name of social activism, politics and democracy. A Great Combination of Rigor and Practical Advice
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2002-05-16
This is by far the best book I have seen on reliability planning, evaluation and engineering of electric power delivery systems. The book is well organized and very linear in its progression through its topics, so its makes for a very good textbook or self-study guide, as was the case for me. It has an extremely comprehensive index, which means its should serve as a good, quick reference in the future.

The book is pretty rigorous, and has a good bit of equations and theory, but what I appreciated is that there is a lot of common sense and good recommendations throughout, plus good data and tables on reliability, equipment, expectations, etc. I learned just a lot about distribution systems and reliability, and what to expect and how to make improvements in the real world, from this book.

But what I think is unique about this book and its greatest value was its combination of rigorous analysis of system configuration and indidivual equipment focus. You find a lot of stuff written that focuses on one or the other. There are books and technical papers on methods to analyze systems based on layout, load, switching capabilities, etc. (configuration), but they are often theoretical and neglect issues of equipment. There are also books on equipment lifetime versus loading analysis, condition evaluation and assessment, and maintainability. But rarely are the two combined well, and in one whole analytical method.

This is one of the best engineering books I have.

This book covers it all: causes of reliability, measures of reliability, component modeling, system modeling, system analysis, and system optimization. It even has a great primer on distribution systems from a reliability perspective.

The great thing about this book is its ability to bridge the gap between theoretical treatment and practical applications. Although it is full of algorithms and equations, all are presented in the context of real applications and real results. It has truly broadened my understanding of of the subject.

paper on this book S...ks but the subjects and depth of material is outstanding.

Complete Coverage of EMC
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-02
Mr. Kaiser is an authority on EMC and this book brings together a career of research in this field. Materials from his other accessible works are included. Likely the most complete assembly anywhere of EMC/EMI reference tables, charts, and comparative test results. A best value - to own the same coverage one would expect to buy several texts.

One suggestion is to print the next edition on a different thin paper, perhaps vellum. A higher cost would be justified in improved page opacity and strength, and probably permanence. Not at all a handbook, it's a thick single-volume encyclopedia, and a keeper.

Outstanding self teaching tool for EE's
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-07
The book covers a lot. See the Table of Contents. The main thing to note about this book is the writing style. It is incredibly easy to read and learn from. Even seasoned professionals will find plenty to justify the purchase. I think its strongest usage should be with EE students. I recommend it highly for EE students as it covers much more than straight EMC material. Like circuit analysis, transform operations, circuit design, electromagnetic theory. It takes time to explain many everday things in good detail as examples of theory application.
True the paper is thin. You can see through it to the content on the other side but you quickly get used to this. Suggestion for the next edition is break it into two volumes and use better paper.
