I LOVE this book. I am a little older than a teen, but i am 23 and living on my own. The recipes are great because they have single serving dinners.... just perfect for me.... It is a great book to start learning how to cook. can't say enough about it.

We've tried all kinds of recipes in this book from soups to main dishes to desserts (the creme brulee is superb) and everything keeps turning out wonderful. The book might appeal more to girls with all the little helpful side notes-we've also enjoyed Sam Stern's Cooking Up a Storm which might appeal more to boys than this book. Together they made an excellent combination for the teen cook or for a young adult going out on their own for college or work or newly married. Again, every recipe we've tried has turned out-we can highly recommend this cookbook.

My daughter received this book and we both love it. The entree recipes provide clear directions and come with side-dish suggestions and general cooking tips. Any teen who wants to move cooking skills beyond the microwave should own this book and the partner book Teens Cook Dessert. The recipes in both are delish!

I am having a back to school program for my teens at the Library teaching them how to make easy and delicious after-school snacks. This is a great book. Just looking at the flyers I have up, they are psyched that we will be making snacks created (and taste approved) by teens. The recipes are easy, the ingredients are easy to find, and the best part is these will be healthier for them than microwavable, perservative-riddled frozen "snacks." I also like that there is a section on breakfast food since many teens tend to skip this very important meal. The cool thing is that a lot of the breakfast recipes (like the scones and even the breakfast casserole) can be made in advance and grabbed when their scurrying out the door.

This book is an inspiration! When I started reading it..I couldn't put it down! Its amazing and is a must for teenagers who might be going through this and need help. This book is like a light to us 'bugs' or 'insects' and leads or guides us in the right direction. And it searches for lost or confused bugs and tries to help them.
This book is perfect and many parents should sit down with their teenagers and discuss about the temptations out there in the world and how they can avoid them and walk away. I am sixteen and I loved this book! I can't wait for more of the series come out!

Wow, what an amazing tool to use to further communicate such a growing problem in our society today. This is an area most parents don't want to think about and the book provides parents with a platform to discuss this openly and honestly with their kids. Thank you for providing us with a chance to help protect our kids in a healthy honest way.

I was shocked to read that "90 percent of children ages 8-16 have viewed porn online - usually while doing homework." (OC Register article about this book on 12/3/07.) The odds are not good. Will your child be able to resist, when even the most innocent web search can pull up unintended results? If you have kids of any age, you can and must discuss this relevant topic with them. This book fosters that discussion perfectly. I applaud the creative and brave people behind this important and necessary parenting tool -- for handling such a tough topic in an accessible way.

This book has been so educational and eye opening for me and my family . This wonderful author has made a somewhat uncomfortable topic more comfortable for all of us. In addition, I loved the story. I am grateful that such a topic is being addressed. This is a pertinent topic. This awareness is so healthy and I love the solutions offered to this epademic. What a breath of fresh air. I feel that this kind book will be very healing for many.

What a great tool to educate and explain the temptations of our
complex world. The computer/internet have introduced such vast unknowns
and intrigue. I applaud Danielle for touching upon such a
sensitive subject that is so relative to today... she is fulfilling a need to reach out to today's generation now instead of later.

Although, we seem to use I Can Draw Animals and I Can Draw People more, this book is also great. My 4 year old daughter and my 4 year old nephew received these for Christmas. They both use these books for hours and we also do it as a family. These (I Can Draw Animals, I Can Draw People, What Shall I Draw Today) are the only ones we have so far, but they are super. Not only are these books teaching my little girl how to draw, but reinforcing time alone drawing, group activity, sharing and "Please pass the yellow", etc... Every child should have these books.

This is the book, in this format, my mother read to me 50-plus years ago, and it is still as good. I recently purchased four copies. One each for two adult friends who are very ill. Both responded with uplifted spirits. One each for two young women who will be welcoming new "Young" ones soon.
Please note "Disbobedience" was set to music in the '60s by, I believe, the Chad Mitchell Trio, and James James Morrison Morrison Weatherby George Dupree is still warning his mother "not to go down to the end of town unless you go down with me ..."
"Vespers", at the very end, not only brings back memories of your own and your children's innocent childhoods, but also contains a very important message, "Oh, I quite forgot/God bless me."
And God bless you and those with whom you share this book.

One day, I found one of these poems running around in my head 40 years after I first began reading them to my boys when they were very young. As my older son took possession of that copy some time back, I had to order a new one for my 67-year old self just to get the lines absolutely right. It was worth it. My only regret is that I have no grandchildren to drum them into. Charming, literate and comforting.

I had to read this for a little while before I got to a poem I really liked. The first 10 or so poems just seemed incomplete to me. "Independence" caught my eye first. In very few words it pretty much tells us adults that our kids are going to do what they want, despite all the things we say. It's followed by the wonderful poem "Nursery Chairs" where a child pretends the chairs in his house are different things. Then after "Nursery Chairs" is another strong poem, "Market Square" where we learn that there are things all around us in nature that we don't need to get from the market.
"Disobedience" is another interesting poem. It's kind of a role-reversal story about a kid whose mother disobeys his orders to stay away from the end of town, and she gets lost as the result of her disobedience.
"Spring Morning" emphasizes the beauty of nature to us, saying, "It's awful fun to be born at all." Next is "The Island" which has a wonderful closing message that screams, "God made it all - FOR US!" to me.
And there are so many other joyous poems in this quick read too. There's "Jonathan Jo," "Rice Pudding," "The Wrong House," "The Dormouse and the Doctor" (which has some terrific rhythm), a very touching "Little Bo-Peep and Little Boy Blue," "The Invaders," "If I Were King," etc., etc.
But perhaps my favorite poem in the collection is "Halfway Down" which is about nothing more than sitting on stairs. Man, if someone can take such a simple act and make it so astoundingly wondrous, then that person truly must be one of the greatest writers ever.

It's so great to hear someone speak the truth amongst the competitive child-rearing nonsense that so many middle class parents find themselves trapped in. I thoroughly agree with Jen that parenting has changed from the authoritative to the democratic. Time for us mums to let our kids get dirty again, stop the ridiculous circus of classes, teams, and schedules and for goodness sakes be kids! Thanks Jen for finally empowering us 'slummy mummies' and helping me to put the brakes on my kids' childhoods before I wonder where it all went and how I missed it.

I was picking up a book to help me understand my son and his emotions better when I saw this book. I flipped through a few pages and laughed out loud at each page I read. How refreshing!! I told myself I would look at a few more pages and if I laughed more I would get it. After five minutes I couldn't put it down and I was drawing stares from others b/c I was laughing. Instead of a book telling me what I need to do better, this one told me "we all understand and we've been there". It helped me see things in a less tense way and laugh at myself. I have four little ones under 6 yrs, including a newborn, and I went home and read a book for me that made me feel better about ME. What a refreshing concept!

Just when you think everything has been written on the topic of motherhood, there comes another great book on the subject that handles the topic with flair. A surefire way to instill confidence in a new mom, this book hits the issues dead-on. Fashioned in a simple way by addressing the 14 Secrets To Finding Happiness, the author manages to address all "mothering" insecurities and provide encouraging words as well as a bit of a kick in the pants for those self-proclaimed slacker moms! Offers some great advice for mothers of the 21st century. Don't miss this one!

I'll admit up front that I'm bias ... Jen is a friend of mine. And as a friend, I've had the good fortune to see and hear Jen's humor over the years -- on the soccer field, in the pub, at weddings. And I've long thought, and this book just proves it, that Jen is a rightful heir to the following of Erma Bombeck. Why? Because they find the humor in the every day. They are willing to mock themselves while showing us the absurd we take for granted as normal. And they both make me laugh despite the fact I'm neither a housewife nor a mom.
Paraphrasing a favorite commercial of my youth ... buy it, you'll like it. And Jen, keep 'em coming. You're a Good Mom (and Your Kids Aren't So Bad Either)

It's not just for the 28-year-old still living in the basement! Anyone going to college should read this, even if half of it won't apply for a couple years. By the time you move out of campus housing, you'll have used every chapter. I particularly like the sections on roommates and laundry! My son won't be in college for two years, but in June 2010, he'll get his copy!

Children moving out forget just how many little things are sitting around their parents homes, like rubberbands and tape, that they never have to think about. It's all just "there".
This is a great book of lists and ideas for both movers and parents of movers to use to stock up on large and small items that will make life just so much easier on your own! There are even tips on how to interview a house-mate, and a little cooking, and remembering to ask the landlord where the laundry facilities are when you're looking at a new place.
It's a quick read, and a quick eye-opener, and a cute gift.

Not only is this a must-have book for any child contemplating the big move, but every adult who has made it to the stage of having a child who is ready to leave should read it. You will pat yourself on the back and wonder how you survived.
I laughed as Salditt reminds us of the importance of toilet paper and how NOT having toilet paper is a very bad thing! I'm not sure if I cried because of memories of some horrible roommates, or at the thought of my "baby" out on his own.
The illustrations are charming and this little gem of a book is filled with terrific checklists for you and the young adult that is making the big move.
I can't wait to see what Salditt tackles next.

This book is alot of fun. It is filled with practical advice such as: "Get a calendar to remind you what day it is, when rent is due, and when it's Mom's or Dad's birthday." If only I had this book when I moved out of my parent's house. The chapter about "Avoid the roommate from hell" would have been very useful. The illustrations are hillarious and they have an excellent website.

I purchased this book for my 9 year old grandaughter. What a wonderful introduction to sewing. First and formost, it is fun, visually attractive, in a easy to use spiral format on durable stock. It begins with some nice graphics and games that involve learning the parts of the sewing machine, moves on to some FUN drills that teach little hands how to control sewing lines, curves, points and so on. It ends with some very basic projects that kids can complete on their own giving them a real sense of acomplishment. This is a must have for children learning to sew.

This is a great book. Inside it has actual patterns for your kids to practice tracing with their machine stitching. Very colorful and excellent quality...thick pages. Can't wait to try it out with my daughter after we give it to her at Christmas.

This is a good book, with clear instructions. It is a good starting point for learning about mini-books and paper folding. I found going through the book thinking of different ideas in addition to those in the book. Some of the illustrations provided inspiration for subjects to cover. In all, it is a good jumping point to start from.

Dinah Zike makes paper folding easy and education fun with her creative methods of writing and instruction. The students enjoy the lessons just as much as I enjoy teaching them! The photos and instructions are easy to follow and personalize to your own classroom needs. This is a must for all ages/grades!

This is a creative and helpful book. It really helped my kids know their material better. They would use big or small books to elaborate on topics they had learned. They love to look back through the books they made, reinforcing the information over and over.
They were able to remember so many more details of the topics we covered from the ideas in this book.

I had never coached before and was placed in the position of coaching my son's first grade basketball team at a local league. I was nervous not knowing what to do about coaching, not having ever taught or coached 5 or 6 year old boys. The book was extremely helpful in breaking down the fundamentals of basketball and helping with drills and basic concepts of basketball. Although we have only had about 5 practices so far, it's gone very smoothly because of the tips in this book. I highly recommend getting it to help set a basic foundation for new parent coaches who have no clue on what to do.
The only area that may need help is what to teach kids regarding basic offensive strategy. But that will develop with age.

It was my first time coaching basketball. I coached 1st graders. I coached because nobody else volunteered to do it. With that in mind this book was perfect. It has all the basics you need to understand the game and it provides planned practices according to players age.
If you are ever in my situation with little knowledge of the game and forced to coach a kids team, I highly recommend this book.

I bought 4 basketball coaching books for my husband when he signed up to coach our son's Kindergarten basketball team. He has never coached basketball before. This is the only book he wanted to keep. He uses it to come up with basic drills and general coaching tips. It's good. If you buy only one, I'd recommend this one.

We own the hardback book Heaven - this paperback Heaven for Kids - and the 64-page booklet made for sharing Heaven: Biblical Answers to Common Questions and they are ALL wonderful.
Heaven, the original, longer, hardback book, is a much more in-depth treatment and argument for understanding heaven scripturally (physical, all that is good, richness) rather than how Heaven has been defined culturally (white, fluffy, harps). I have enjoyed this book Heaven for Kids because it was so much easier to get through and quickly understand than the big book (whether kid or adult ;).
This series of books is endorsed by Hank Hanigraff of the Christian Research Institute which I view as the litmus test of bible-based trustworthiness. Thus, I feel confident in its assertions and presentations.
Will there be dogs in heaven? Well God created them and called them good ~ why wouldn't there be? Learn more about the current earth, the new heaven & new earth, and all that God has revealed about life eternal in this wonderful book.
Bon Appetit!

I read the adult version of this book and really got a lot out of it. So much so that I felt compelled to buy this for my kids. My spouse and I read this to our kids and that was a good thing. Our oldest is 11 and we had to go slow and explain a lot of the thoughts and concepts in the book.
I'm not sure if our kids captured the exciting vision of hope that the author intended to convey, but it was a good family experience to read it to them.
I gave the book 4 stars because younger kids may have a harder time grasping the vision; therefore, I would now say that this book is more appropriately aimed at kids in their young teens although they may chafe at the "For Kids" tag on the cover. I should note that the content of this kid's version is totally solid and that I thoroughly enjoyed the adult version of this book as well.

When we found out my father in law was dying of pancreatic cancer, one of our main concerns was how to deal with it with our kids. This book was a great resource, especially for our introspective 11 year old. She was able to read it on her own and ponder the chapters. It gave her great comfort to know that because of Grandpa's faith in Christ, he has a promise of eternity in heaven - free from any more pain or suffering. She also like to read that heaven is going to be exciting and active - not a bunch of cloud-sitting and harp playing. In fact she said, "Now that I've learned more about what heaven will be like, I'm a little jealous that Grandpa gets to go so soon." I highly recommend for any family in a similar situation.

HeavenEveryone should read this book, Christian or not. If you are a Christian, you will become more excited than ever to leave this earth and go to your new home. If you are not a Christian, you will be ready to give your life to God, so that you too, may go to HEAVEN!!! Everything that Mr. Alcorn writes is backed by scripture, so this is not a "made up" story. "Heaven" has given me more determination than ever to try to reach the unsaved.
