Over 600 fantastic images of Judah and the Dead Sea
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

Anyone who has ever searched for images of the splendors of Biblical lands only to come up with grainy images with little in the way of provenance will deeply appreciate Todd Bolen's impressive job of assembling so many excellent pictures in one place - and granting purchasers the right to use any or all of them freely for personal or educational use. Not only does this CD feature hundreds of high-resolution (1600 x 1200 pixels or higher) photographs from out-of-the-way locations as well as familiar sites (Todd Bolen, a professor at the Israel Bible Extension campus of The Master's College, and his colleagues have lived and traveled extensively over the whole area for years), it provides the purchaser with several ways of viewing and using them. You get all of the images in JPEG format, so they can be viewed in a browser, in any number of photo editing software products, or in VueSlide (a trial version of which is included on the CD). On top of that, though, the CD also features ready-made PowerPoint presentations featuring the images in a local tour-like sequence and, in many cases, built-in notes about each image. Identifying information is coded into the name of each file: the site name, the date the photo was taken, and the initials of the photographer. Even those who have toured the Holy Land could not have traveled to so many sites on multiple occasions in order to view each of them under optimal conditions.

Volume 4, Judah and the Dead Sea, features over 600 photographs from the Hill Country of Judah, the Judean Wilderness, the Dead Sea, Shephelah, and the Philistine Plain. Specific sites include En Gedi, Masada, Qumran, Bethlehem, Herodium, Hebron, Gezer, the Valley of Elah, Bet Guvrin, Lachish, and Ashkelon, and you get images of Wadi Qilt, Nahal Arugot, Mar Saba, the Bar Kochba caves, Sorek Cave stalactites, the cave of Adullam, Yarmuth, Gath (Tell es-Safi), Tell Eiton (Eglon), Tell Beit Mirsim, Gaza and nearly all 11 caves of the Dead Sea Scrolls.. The subjects include geographical shots (including many aerial shots), photographs of ancient remains and significant modern-day sites, many of them photographed from multiple angles to capture them in their totality, and items of cultural significance.

This is a veritable treasure trove for church leaders and educators, as personal users are given the rights to use these images in class presentations, lectures, course syllabi, newsletters, and church materials.

This book provides a great foundation that would allow any group of teachers to be successful in their implementation of podcasting at the school site. I have read many books for education and in my opinion this is the best one available at this time.

An excellent tutorial for prepress support people
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 11 total.

I work for a major supplier of prepress hard- and software. It is often difficult to find accurate extensive backgroud information on essential technologies like PostScript or PDF and this book fills this void perfectly. It is a goldmine if you want to look beyond the simple "select this, click that" type of manuals and take an detailed look at the way PostScript, drivers, printercommunication,... work.

great introduction; tips for old hands as well
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2004-12-25
What a great little book! This slim volume has more genuinely useful information than many larger (more expensive) books. If you are beginner to creating music from sampled loops, this will be a great introduction, giving you an overview, reviewing the various tools, and passing along tips. (I was initially put off by the multiple reviews - for example, of Live versions 1, 2, and 3 - but they do actually build upon each other.) Both beginners and pros will benefit from the no-nonesense sections on copyright, creating your own loops, suggested libraries, mixing, and other tips and tricks. The writing style is very friendly - this is not a textbook - but again, manages to tell you want you really need to know without wasting your time. The CD contains demo versions of some of the programs mentioned, and free loops. An excellent find.

Professional Certification Mag says "Indispensable!"
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 2001-10-16
Perhaps the most handy reference collection we have seen come through our ProCert Labs, Stephen L. Nelson's From A To Z collection of quick reference guides really hits the spot. If you are using a Microsoft Office product (and if you are not: its time you bought yourself a computer), this handy reference guide will prove indispensable.

Stephen L. Nelson has been writing quick reference guides for some time now, and it shows in this series. Organized alphabetically, each guide excludes an index because, after all, it is one. The navigation is easy and gets right to the point. I looked up "Selecting Text" and learned that there are six different ways to do so. I discovered each of the six ways in less than half a page; a testament to the concise and straightforward instruction in store for every reader.

And don't let me fool you; the information available in each guide addresses the complex as well as the mundane. You will find quick reference tidbits on everything from Autoformatting (a bane to every Word user) to managing Text Formulas in Excel (which most of us would use if we knew they existed.)

For you Access jockeys, having the Access 2002 From A To Z quick reference at hand will make Applying Filters as easy as cooking with Ron Popeil. The finer points of PowerPoint are described in understandable detail, and if you are looking to quell your questions about Outlook, you will find them the fastest in this quick reference.

Bonus Situation: MOUS. Aside from being a valuable desktop reference, each quick reference guide includes information about passing the Microsoft Office User Specialist exam, and promises that the guide includes all the information you will need to pass the test. Our quick review confirmed this, making these books an excellent choice for those of you who are working toward MOUS certification.

The current series of quick reference guides includes:

Word 2002 From A To Z
Excel 2002 From A To Z
PowerPoint 2002 From A To Z
Access 2002 From A To Z
Outlook 2002 From A To Z
Windows 2002 From A To Z
Each quick reference is about 200 pages, with the exception of the Windows XP quick reference, which tops out at 250. Under twelve bucks apiece, you can't miss with any one of the From A To Z quick references from Redmond Technologies Press. Each book individually provides excellent coverage of every function of its technology, and the entire collection represents a comprehensive must have for anyone who relies on the MS Office suite for advanced productivity.

Great book! Covers all the stuff about PowerPoint 2007 you could possibly want to know, and then some. I make professional presentations with PowerPoint for the photography classes I teach, and it was quite a challenge untill I got my copy of this great book. I use many sophisticated graphics and transitions in my presentations and I was able to quickly learn how using this reference book. I also synchronize slide shows to music using PowerPoint and the material in this book was invaluable in that endeavor. Highly reccomend it!

Review Date: 2007-08-25
I was looking for a comprehensive guide to software licensing after being a licensing professional for some time; this book served my purpose; it is the most informative and thorough book I could find on the subject both in terms of the subject coverage and practical aspects of licensing software; useful to attorneys and non-attorneys and it is written in quite simple language without losing the seriousness of the subject matter. The issues discussed in the book are exactly what I encountered in practice and the model language provided is quite useful. Highly recommend to attorneys, contracts managers, and licensing professionals.
