What a wonderful book for young students (and older students!) I teach private trumpet lessons to students ranging in age from 10 to 18 and they all enjoyed looking at it while waiting for their lesson to begin. Lots of great tips and like the title suggests a "Survival Guide".

BRAVO !!

This book is filled with practical easy to read information about what it means to learn music. As a music teacher, I find this book to be a great tool for parents and students. It teaches the basic aspects of what is involved in learning a musical instrument. It is also written on a level that schoolage students can understand. I found it to be simple to read, yet very informative and enjoyable. I am going to recomend it to my students - especially the Jr. High students who seem to have lost motivation. I may even assign them chapters to read and intergrate it into my lessons.

We just bought our first home and were completely overwhelmed. It's scary knowing what you're getting into and trying to make sure you aren't making a huge mistake. Thanks to this book we felt confident that we were covering all of our bases. This book gave us tips on everything from making sure we were working with an agent we liked and trusted--and who wasn't lying to us, to knowing what to expect and how to handle the inspection, things to consider when buying the house, and, some of the best advice, were tips on things we never would have thought of. For example, go to the house at various times of day to make sure you know what the traffic is like, drive from the house to work and school so you knw what that will be like. It was terrific and I will recommend it to all my friends--even those who already own a home. You can use this the first, second and third time around.

Written by a renowned expert in real estate and property space, this book is filled with thought-provoking content for anyone involved in corporate real estate. Most readers will recognize at least one, if not several, embarrassing (and probably costly) mistakes that have already been made. These mistakes, and many like them, could have been avoided by a careful read of this book.

This comfortingly thick volume is organized into the following main sections, with chapters under each heading: Strategy Management Operations, Deals/Deal-Making, Space, Place, and the all-important How You Can Avoid Mistakes. Each of the 275 potential mistakes is presented briefly. The write-ups are more reminders and memory joggers-briefly instructive, rather than in-depth treatments of the topics. In many of the explanations, I found myself wanting more detail, while appreciating the warning that the mistake could cost me in many ways.

The table of contents is comprehensive, enabling the reader to locate by category the topic(s) of interest. As a reference book, the volume would have been more valuable with an index.

For corporate leaders, business owners, and even corporate real estate professionals who think they already have all the answers, this volume will serve a valuable purpose. If you are considering any kind of a real estate move, first move through the pages of this book.

One of the most helpful darkroom as well as general photographic guides that I have found. The best thing about it is that it informs you on all the major brands on the market i.e. Kodak, Fuji, Agfa, Ilford, etc. unlike guides published by the companies themselves who of course only advise you about their products. As a consumer you need to know about all of them. I have been waiting for an update for a few years now, which is what I hoped to find when I looked it up in Amazon. The guide is still helpful but there are many new products since 1993.

This book is invaluable for the darkroom worker, both amateur and pro. It lists properties and develop times of all films, describes printing papers in depth and gives information on every kind of photo chemical you ever wanted to use but were afraid to buy. I only wish it were updated to include newer films and papers, but it's still the handiest book I own.

A few years back I worked in a pet store in Maine where this book was sold. Interested I read it during my lunch breaks and fell in love with it. It's SUCH an excellent book. It's wonderful to find a book that encourages and even stressed the need to THINK before you get a puppy and just any puppy. I now work at a vet's office and I recommend this book any and everytime I get a chance. I even had a client tell me today that it did help with their decision on what kind of new dog they wanted to get. There's also a fantastic section in there on the proper and improper places to get a new dog. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent resource for all dog lovers.

As my son says, "The best part about the book was the puppies!!!" This wonderfully informative, entertaining book covers all the basics of choosing a puppy or even an older dog. "Before you Buy That Puppy," is filled with pictures, tips and personal anecdotes.

Wrede addresses the issues of learning about your selected breed, how to recognize a healthy puppy, and where to find it. She devotes a lot of material to choosing between a puppy and grown dog. We have all heard about full shelters because animals were chosen, not by the owner, but as a gift. Consequently, Wrede writes extensively on matching puppies or dogs to families with young children, single owners, and the elderly, based on size, temperament, breed, and energy levels.

"Before You Buy That Puppy," also provides excellent introductory material to various breeds. With the basics provided, and the resources in the back of the book, it is easy to choose the breed that is just right for any dog lover.

Furthermore, the book includes chapters about purchasing puppies from long-time professional breeders, backyard breeders, pet stores, and puppy mills. A section also discusses dogs chosen from animal shelters. Having adopted a beautiful Brittany Spaniel from a shelter five years ago, I was delighted to see the information. In addition, her section on warnings clued me into the problem my own Brittany has recently developed. It was quite a relief to read that my dog is suffering from nothing more serious than moving too often. Such informative tidbits make the purchase of book for any dog lover worthwhile.

Wrede also includes a chapter about services that train dogs to help the disabled. As my son stated, "They actually don't make a profit off of the dogs they train! I think that's pretty generous of them." Some of these dogs are also available for adoption and breeding.

Reading this book should not just be restricted to those thinking of buying a new puppy. Wrede's excellent writing style teaches, informs, and caution with taste, fun, and grace.

My teenager wrote, after finishing the book, "I've always wanted a puppy and now I know a lot more about and will be better prepared to try to convince my mom to save another one from the humane. Now I think I need to read her other book, which is about caring for a puppy." Two paws up for this fantastic romp!

Eric Franey appears to have written the best book on African-Americans and economics that I have read yet. I'm glad to have run across this one. It has had a profound impact on me, and caused me to re-evaluate plans for my business. A great read for anyone in business, or who is just curious about what's going on with African-Americans in America. My hats off to Mr. Franey.

I went to the Expo to check out business opportunities, and found this book. It seems like a good bargain considering that the author gives 2 hours of free consultation with every purchase. I really bought it just for that, but once I got it home and looked it over, I saw the book itself is worth its weight in gold. It's easy to read and really simplifies so many things...especially all those accounting things!

Thanks, Mr. Calkins!

I am reading it at present.....you can only read a few pages at a time...then you must stop to think and let the ideas formulate. There is so much content, so much useful information and frankly, in an area where frustration and fear of failure become frequent visitors, this book gives you the sense that it can be done, it is possible, and here's how the others did it..........I like this book because it tells you about Main Street not Wall Street, and how to use OPM to buy your business to operate...when so much is about fast-buck merchants flipping and spinning.

I think this book is really helpful and one of the very best I have read.......pity Amazon has deleted it from its catalogue
