I have so enjoyed the book "Gift of the White Light" by James N. Frey. This biography was about the life and journey of Annette Martin, who was the first psychic sworn in as an expert witness in a court of law for a murder case. I loved reading about her life's journey and how she made a concious choice and decision to help people with her extrodinary gift. She showed courage and kindness to people in need during a time in our history when psycic abilities were not as respected as they are today. I appreciate her story and encourage everyone to read her book! It was truly wonderful!

This story about the life and experiences of Annette Martin is a must read for anyone interested in the paranormal. Although blessed with this gift of psychic vision, Annette is also a very normal woman that we can all relate to. This is a marvelous tale of coming to terms with the challenges and responsibilities of this special calling. While having many other interests and talents, Annette has chosen to also find time to be of service to humanity by using her psychic vision and light to heal and guide individuals. She has also helped police departments solve crime mysteries. This wonderful book is full of stories that illustrate how she has used her amazing gift.

This is a wonderful and inspiring book. Having just met Annette in person, she is just as delightful and authentic as her biography suggests. What an amazingly talented and compassionate soul. I highly recommend this book to all readers, it's for everyone!

It's unusual to find a book written in a straightforward, clear, matter-of-fact way on this subject which is so often cloaked in foggy New-Age mysticism. But James Frey's engaging biography of Annette Martin is just that. And the book's style reflects the style of its subject, who is a delightful, sunny, very down-to-earth person. Annette was recently a guest on my radio show, American Variety, heard on NPR-affiliate stations in Central and South Florida, and we had a great time talking about the adventures on which her special gift has led her. She's the real deal, and I'd recommend this book to anyone.

Loved it!

"Gift Of The White Light" is a great journey through Annette Martin's adventures as a psychic detective. It is an excellent read for both lovers of crime stories and psychic mediums alike. Annette is a wonderful person with lots of fascinating stories to tell from her decades of work. James N. Frey captures the essence of each story vividly. I highly look forward to a second book!

I have never met Thomas Ashley Farrand, but he seems like a familiar person. I have both the CD and this book. I bought the CD to hear the mantras. I like Farrand's voice. As far as this book, I think it is very well-written. It is more of an introductory book, and it is great for someone just starting out, and he is very good at explaining things and making you feel that he put his heart-felt, personal touch to writing this.

This book offers a wonderful view into the world of using sound to heal the body, mind, and soul. It provides an excellent foundation for understanding the power of mantras.

When I purchased this book (about four years ago), I had a lot of problems with my eyes. I used to get ulcers on my cornea, and no doctors were able to explain why this happened. I discovered a mantra in this book, dedicated to healing the eyes. After practicing this mantra for a few weeks, my eyes began to feel better. After a few months, my eye doctor was suprised to find a noticeable improvement in my eyesight. Since practicing this mantra, I've only experienced one more corneal ulcer (about two years ago).

Since then, I've incorporated many of the mantras found in this book into my daily life.

Peace be with you! Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti!

for anyone with chronic health problems!

I have seen well over a dozen books on thyroid. Too many contain mostly regurgitated conventional beliefs, a few were written mainly to sell the author's own nutrition products. Most insist thyroid medical tests are reliable. (How do they know this, anyway?)

This one is different. The author is a hypothyroid specialist and provides much evidence that over 50% of the US (and no doubt UK) population has low thyroid problems - whether your own doctor's much-touted tests show it or not.

This is the book that really helped me understand my low thyroid problems and I have also learned how to see the signs in others (from pix and explanations in the book of things like the arm pinch test and swollen necks). The only negative for me is that it did not really agree with the warning in one other excellent thyroid book about adrenal exhaustion preventing recovery (that other book is "Your Thyroid and How to Keep It Healthy: The Great Thyroid Scandal and How to Survive It" by Barry Durrant-Peatfield and there is only one page in it about having to build up the adrenals first - easy to overlook, as I almost did). Be warned: if you have had low thyroid for several years (in my case over a decade before I finally self-diagnosed and thus was able to take the first steps towards recovery) then you will almost certainly have adrenal exhaustion.

The thyroid tablets did not work for me (and I ended up taking three times the normal "dose" for several months before this became clear) until I stopped them and took adrenal support tablets for several weeks before restarting thyroid on a smaller dose. I also continued the adrenal support tablets for several months. Finally, I am seeing clear improvements. There is even a spring in my step! I never really expected to experience that again...

The adrenal exhaustion involvement is a major problem because, even if you are able to get thyroid tablets, they may not work and you would then assume you don't have a low thyroid problem, that it must be something else. This happened to me at the start of my long illness and was one of the major reasons I did not try thyroid tablets again for over a decade - even though I very gradually gained over 100 pounds while eating very carefully indeed - it must be easier to realise a low thyroid involvement if you gain three stone in three months, as a friend of mine did. (Another one was that I have very thick head hair and every list of symptoms includes thinning hair - so please don't let this sort of thing put you off too.)

Also, if you are diabetic or TATT (tired all the time, even ME/CFS) or overweight (and can't lose it by dieting) or have high blood pressure or high cholesterol, etc, etc, then you MUST read this book. If you have chronic health problems (and who doesn't, these days!) the information in this book may save your life in the long run and relieve pain in the shorter term.

P.S. I also recommend the book "Iodine: Why You Need It, Why You Can't Live Without It" by Brownstein which I have since come across and found very helpful.

Finally a book on hypothyroidism that can be used!

Finally a book that explans why hypothyroidism cannot be diagnosed solely by blood tests. Doctors in the 21st century should take note that their patients are running out of patience with their lack of answers to some vague epidemics such as "chronic fatigue syndrome," fibromyalgia," and "depression." I advise doctors that they need to "go back to the basics" of listenng to patients and being openminded.

Thank you, Dr. Starr, for you are a doctor who "gets it" and who makes complete sense!

This book is one of the best. It is packed with excellent and helpful info about the Thyroid and other glands as well. It helped me figure out why my doctors cannot seem to diagnose or treat my problems effectively. It is not easy reading, requires quiet concentration. Could have been more simply organized, but the valuable and potentially life-saving information within is well worth the effort. Have your highlighter and page markers ready!

If you are like me, never feeling "right" on your synthetic Thyroid hormone (mine was Synthroid) but your doctor insisting that your "levels are in the normal range" you MUST read this book. YOU ARE NOT CRAZY! Your blood tests can be normal, yet you are gaining weight, your hair is falling out by the handfuls and you are tired all the time. Get some help from an MD who will LISTEN to you and take you seriously instead of sounding like a broken record (your levels are in the normal range, your levels are in the normal range, blah blah blah). I told my doc if she didn't put me on the natural hormone I was leaving her. She did it against her better judgment and guess what? I feel a hundred times better and my levels are normal. Not that I put any credibility in those, but it makes her happy (I guess) even though she is still mad at me. I don't care. It's my health, not hers. This book can change your life if you are willing to stand up for your well-being. Buy this book, I can't recommend it enough.

I've read every book I could get my hands on about thyroid disorders.

This is the best one I've found. This MD has the answer to thyroid problems.

I also appreciate how he writes about the weird symptoms you can have that no one else has explained. Myxedema is one. If you are hypothyroid you probably have what looks like cellulite all over your body. It is a form of edema that will go away when your thyroid is better.

Insist on natural thyroid glandulars from your MD. Synthroid does not work!!!

IF YOU WERE MY BUNNY has been a fabulous find for us. Our 2 1/2 year old boy loved it the first time we read and sang it to him, and he asks to read this one over and over. IF YOU WERE MY BUNNY alternates between little mini-stories where parent and child are some kind of animal, with lullabies with familar tunes but new words to fit that animal. Just this evening, I got out IF YOU WERE MY BUNNY and had him snuggle into my lap with delight.

IF YOU WERE MY BUNNY manages to hit a wonderful balance. It is purely sweet, without seeming overly so. It is just a sweet, sweet book in which parent and child love each other and pretend. IF YOU WERE MY BUNNY is a big, big favorite with parents and toddler at our house.

This is one of my very favorite books from the baby and preschool years. My daughter is 7 years old now, and I just came across "If You Were My Bunny" again while picking out baby shower presents for my best friend. "If You Were My Bunny" sets new poems to old lullaby tunes. The illustrations are charming, the length is just right, and it makes a perfect bedtime ritual. This is a special and memorable book.

We've had this book as part of our bedtime routine for years. All three of our younger boys truly enjoy the story - especially since it is set to various tunes of familiar lullabies.

The illustrations set the stage for some interactive conversations with the boys while the songs engage them. It is a truly interactive book for everyone.

This book has certainly become a special keepsake for our family and we'll be keeping this board book to share with our grandchildren.

I ordered this book to accompany personal instruction I received on infant massage, after my son was born and we realized he was colicky. Infant massage immediately did several things:
- it helped sooth him through his discomfort
- it gave him a pleasant association with bath time (we massaged after bath)
- it gave me a wonderful opportunity to bond with my son (as Daddies can't breast feed )

I heartily recommend the book and the technique to any parent.

when I ve first seen this book on amazon I thought it is only about how to massage your baby, I thought it is just strokes and no more, and I wasn't 100% content about it. Now after reading it I found every thing about infant massage; the benefit of massage with scientific proof, the strokes, which strok is first and which is last, what about babies who doesn't like massage(like my own boys when they were infants), the effect of it on colicky baby, how massage reshape hte relation with mother and baby. Last but not least, I also like how this book helps big sister/brother to set a strong relation with his/her new sibling.

Purchased this book for my sister, who is a first time mom. She had great difficulty in following it. The set up is confusing. The illustrations lack any directional guidance. You need some massage background to follow the written instructions. There is an overwhelming amount of initial instructions that can be a bit intimidating. If you're a massage therapist, this book will be a great addition. If you're a first time parent, with very little time, find another book. Furthermore, the paperback will not stay open while you try the massage moves, so you need someone to hold the book.

I found Jubilee Trail interesting and have a better picture of the way life must have been for pioneers making their way to California. However, I found the depth of characters and the story to be somewhat juvenile. This book would be better suited to a young teenager who has an interest in historical fiction, not a mature adult.

We had a rather intimidating librarian at my high school, but she was also very insightful when suggesting books. I was Junior when she handed this book to me, stuck her face right in mine, and said, "This book is out of print, so if I don't get it back, YOU'RE IN BIG TROUBLE!" As she escorted me to the checkout table, she gave me a full dissertation on how wonderful the story was, and how much I'd love it. Staring at the plain blue cover with white writing on the spine, I wondered what could be so great. Curious, I took it home.

Trying to avoid my sister later that night, I stretched out across the foot of my bed, and decided to give it a chance... It had my full attention well within the first chapter, and I finished the entire 300-something page book within three days - three SCHOOL days, I might add. I absolutely devoured this book.

I returned it to Ms. Padilla gushing about it, and she had my full trust in any other suggestions she had. I have a few other favorites that were first placed in my hands by that woman, but this one stood out in my memory for a long time as honestly and truly one of the very best books I had ever read - and this is coming from a 'Gone With the Wind' fanatic, too!

***

Fast forward six years, my sister calls me from a rare bookstore to ask the name of the book I'd read in high school and loved... She knew I was looking for a copy, and thoughtfully decided to stop and search for me. Lo and behold, they had a first edition. They obviously didn't know what it was worth, because it was only $8.95. A gem for that low price; what a shame.

I read it again, and was just as enraptured as I was the first time! I now tell everyone that it is my absolute favorite book in the entire world, and the few people who have read it on my suggestion have all but kissed me for it.

I really encourage you to pick this one up... Meet Garnet, Oliver, Florinda, John, and - my favorite - Texas. They will have a place in your heart forever, just like they do mine. This is one you pass down to your children.

I just reviewed Celia Garth, which was the first novel I had read by Gwen Bristow. I found that book to be so enthralling that I quickly sought out and read everything she wrote.

I think, other than Celia Garth, this was my favorite of Bristow's books. Bristow writes clearly and descriptively and makes you feel like you are back in period of time that she is writing about. She adds historic detail to her narratives so you learn something without having it crammed down your throat. It is the intellectual equivalent of playing "dress-up" -- imagining that you are the beautiful heroine of another time.

I guess I just really liked historical fiction because it was so much more appealing to me than modern day. You didn't have to worry about the cliques at school or the awkwardness of adolescence. You were transported to another world and another time.

The book is also just good clean story with an engaging story line. Themes are simple and there isn't the moral gnashing of teeth that seems to be much more popular in more recent books (such as the Luxe series that is currently en vogue).

And, being historical fiction, it also gives you a glimpse into history so when you read it -- especially as an adolescent -- you might actually wind up learning some real history... or at least be motivated to explore it some more.

I am the mother of two boys so they will never read these books. But I'm so happy to see them released again so I can go back and revisit another time -- in American life and in my own.

I don't want to say this is the worst thing I've read, but it comes pretty close. While the plot concept is certainly scintillating, the execution is absolutely awful. Locke obviously hasn't discovered what a thesaurus is and uses the same trite words and boring sentence construction to describe every single event. The 'erotic' scenes(which are practically on every other page) in the book seem straight out of a stereotypical bad porn flick from the Valley. I actually found myself offended by some of the scenarios and how they were arranged and that's not including the poor choice of language. After a while, I had to give up. There was no plot, just awkwardly written sex that read like it was produced by a man. It was that bad and I have better things to read.

I recommend this book to anyone who is curious about life. I already had a life purpose I felt confident and satisfied with before reading this book. I have a strong curiosity for life, and Steve Pavlina recommended it, so I gave it a read. I couldn't put it down ( except to do the exercises ).
I feel much more alive and on purpose after reading Swift's book. I feel much more confident sharing my purpose with others, and encouraging others to consciously pursue their own purpose, or the discovery of their purpose with this book.
I though th analogy with the cup and how water shape to the cup, is sensible and understandable way to explain your life's purpose. I don't want to give it all away. This book is phenomenal, and it would be silly not to read it.

Thanks Brad.

Walk into any bookstore and you'll find a dozen books that claim to have the keys to finding your life purpose. I've reviewed a good quantity of these types of books and the majority of them seem to have a ready made solution for you: the most common being service to God. Although inspirational, I find it really hard to believe that I could have the exact same life purpose as every other reader.

I believe that the biggest flaw in these resources is that the author's focus on doing rather than being. What will you do with your life to make your time here valuable? What have you achieved today, this year, or in your lifetime? The process is all a little external and designed to be sporadic.

Life on Purpose comes from a completely different angle. A life on purpose is more about who you want to be first and foremost. How do you want to feel each day? Who are you and how do you want to express these attributes? The doing comes later and is inherently shaped by your unique definition of being.

Before I read LIFE ON PURPOSE I participated in several of Brad Swift's Teleconferences where he outlined the process in his book. What and how he shared touched me and I wanted to experience going through the passages he spoke of and discover what it might reveal for my life. I found the book filled with questions, big, small, simple, easy and quite a few challenging - by far almost all worthwhile answering. The text is peppered with wonderful quotes that range from profound to hilarious. It is easy reading and light of heart for a 'serious' book about a big topic.
For myself, I found Brad's 3rd passage, UNCOVERING WHAT'S BEEN SHAPING YOUR LIFE, the simplest and most direct approach to 'examining the past' I have ever come across. Brad takes the seemingly complicated issues that often unconsciously shape our lives -survival patterns, role models, socio-economics, religion, nationality, etc - and renders them understandable in a 'non-psychological' manner - without bypassing powerful emotions such as fear and vulnerability. His path of questions reveal the pattern of the "wall paper" that you have been staring at in your everyday life and perhaps never noticed. Then, this pattern is distilled into a concise description he terms your "Inherited Purpose" which is from then on contrasted with the evolving discovery of your "Life Purpose" throughout the rest of the book. This distillation proved extremely useful to me, as I explored the rest of the passages and as I continue on in my Life Purpose. Every time the "Inherited Purpose" infiltrates my thinking I can easily identify and dispel its deadening presence. Now, my Life Purpose is an evolving endeavor that has the very best of me at the forefront of my life. LIFE ON PURPOSE is not a silver bullet with fast answers but an excavation that frees one's intuition and liberates consciousness for the purpose your heart cries out for.

It was a significant part of the process

After retiring from the Federal Government in order to move from DC and pursue a teaching career I had all but given up. No one was interested in hiring this late 50's veteran who just wanted to teach. I heard Brad at church and bought his book Life on Purpose. I did all the exercises which reinvigorated my belief the I was to BE a teacher. Within another month I was offered a job as a co teacher of Exceptional Children, teaching two Language Arts and two Science classes in a middle school. Brad's book was a significant part of my commitment to being a teacher. Read the book, do the exercises it may just work for you too.

I interviewed Brad on my radio show and found both Brad and his book to be sincere and enthusiastic. This book provides easy-to-use steps to a life more filled with awareness and contentment. Lee Channing.

The Lightworker's Way: Awakening Your Spiritual Power to Know and Heal

I really appreciate the author writing this book. She truly details all of the little life defining moments and the events in her life that led up to where she is now and how she slowly accepted her healing and intuitive gifts. I appreciate her honesty; this book has been extremely inspiring to me. I will suggest this book to any open minded person who wants to write their own book or for anyone who is very intuitive but do not have anyone they feel safe enough to share it with. Thank you, Doreen Virtue, for doing your life's work of healing and encouraging others to love and heal as well.

I ordered this book again, after I read it years ago and gave it away. It was great the first and second time. Doreen is a profound spiritual teacher, clairvoyant and life educator. If the word Lightworker rings true to you, you MUST read this book. Doreen is a PHD psychologist AND a healer, intutive, so you get an overall way to heal that is loving light and soulful and practical knowledge. She talks about her history of having gifts and struggling against them and then embracing them. I have seen her numerous times and met her in Los angeles and she is the REAL DEAL. She beams an angelic quality and knowledge. I can't say enough how much her books have helped me on my path. I am a spirtual healer and psychotherapist, so I resonate with her being bold enough to speak her truth.

Just add me to the pack of people who loved this book as a child, and who are now reading it to their own children.

One of the things I want to add to the accolades is that this makes a good book for children to read. It is particularly satisfying because it has a good story -- something that is sometimes lacking in beginning readers.

As far as level I would say that it is at a first grade level which is to say that the print is still fairly large, but that there are more sentences per page than the very beginning readers are used to.

Big Red got back up on the
bank.
I tried and tried to get there too.
But I could not.
My feet were cold.
My hands were cold.
I was cold all over.
"Help! Help!" I called.
But Big red could not help me.

Five Stars. Classic story with wonderful artwork.

Children, Responsibility and Friendship

10 Star First Reader for children just learning the value of friendship and the feelings of others. Ideal for learning compassion, how deeply felt are hurt feelings, and how to fix them. Weighs the importance of ego vs humility, easily discernable and also appeals to a child's sense of ineptitude which arises naturally from his or her vulnerability as a child. Always a "first choice" if it hasn't been read in a while, and always a great pick for instilling confidence on difficult days, reminding both parents and adults that everyone is special, and that everyone has value, and can be productive and useful. A wonderful story of intimacy and rescue to which children instantly relate and appreciate, setting a foundation for lifelong compassion in the dignity of others, and respect for their emotions.

This book was one of my first reads in the elementary school library. Little Black, should be in everyone's library. Very good illustrations. Easily read to little children. One of my better memories of childhood books and now hard to find.

I found this book while going through a collection of books that belonged to my Grandmother - a former elementary school teacher. I immediately showed it to my 3 year old son who LOVES horses. We read this book several times a week. It is hands down, his favorite. The book is written in such a way that it holds a child's attention endlessly. My son gets a wide array of expressions on his face as I read it to him and he looks at the neat pictures. It is too bad that this book is no longer in print. Books written like this nowadays are few and far between. A favorite, a classic, a keepsake!

This is *NOT* the book that these reviews are discussing

I am angry that the reviews that are shown for this book are the ones for the original version, which appears to be out of print. This is *not* the original story with the wonderful pictures that I loved as a child, the ones that are mentioned in several of the reviews; this seems to be one "translated into Navajo" and with different illustrations. Judging from the cover, I don't like them. Be warned: This is *not* the book you remember.
