Used Books

Having been in the petroleum industry for over twenty years, I have found this to be an excellent book to give to new people in our industry. The book contains most equipment terms and industry related topics that allows quick reference.

If you are buying a NEW piano "with strings" (as opposed to a purely digital [no strings] piano), you MUST buy this "Supplement" book.
If you are buying a NEW or USED piano, you also need to buy the "Master" book -- "The Piano Book", also by Larry Fine.

Together, these two books do not cost much. You WILL save hundreds and perhaps thousands of dollars.

Here is what is covered in each book:

THIS BOOK - "2001-2002 Annual Supplement to The Piano Book". This book provides "suggested" list prices for almost every manufacturer and model, AND discusses % discounts you can expect. For example, did you know, that the average discount off of list price is between 15-25%?

This book is published every year in August, based on data from that Spring. For example, this "2001-2002" version was published in August 2001, based on data from June 2001. This means that the "2002-2003" version should be available in August 2002. This book has 98 pages of discount and list price information!!

THE MASTER BOOK - "The Piano Book". This book has chapters on How a Piano Works, Buying a New Piano, Buying a Used Piano, Piano Moving, Piano Care, and a special chapter entitled "A Consumer Guide to New and Recently Made Pianos", which includes brand by brand listings and rankings in a number of categories. This book DOES NOT include price information. This book has 234 pages of content!!

The author has his own website (pianobook.com) which is also listed in the book, and even offers private phone consultations (for a fee, given your specific needs).

BOTTOM LINE: Buy both of these books. Trust me, you will NOT be disappointed!!!

The book is very useful in determining what medications cause side-effects with one another, what foods may inter-act with medicines, side-effects from the medicine itself and any generic name for drugs. It gives recommended dosages and color pages of pills so that patients can become familiar with what type of medicines they are currently taking. It also gives information for pregnant or breast-feeding mothers and information for elderly patients. The information is written in simple language and should be in every household.

Perhaps the book should have been named "A PLACE OF GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT". Long before the Santa Clara Valley became known as the world-famous place called "Silicon Valley" the City of Santa Clara, the pioneer settlement in the valley, was a place where great things were routinely accomplished. It is the home of Mission Santa Clara, located in the heart of Santa Clara University, a growing university where famous explorers, politicians, scientists and athletes have left important marks on the world. The city is also the place where swimmers Mark Spitz, Donna de Varona, along with many of the other great swimmers in swimming history, rose to Olympic fame as members of the Santa Clara Swim club. For those and many other reasons it has been a place of great pride for me. Now, finally, I have a book in my hands that provides me with historical photographs and brief stories that tell a comprehensive history of this marvelous place. I highly recommend it.

I found this book years ago in London and every person whose hands I have placed it in has returned it to me with a mischevious light in their eyes. Ms Macdonald is truly one of the greatest contemporary playwrights, both for women and for Scotland. Each of these four very different scripts provides a rich dialect and dialogue, embracing Scottish culture and revealing it in its naked honesty. A portrayal of women of every age, from the single mother to the hovering grandma, from the brutally truthful child to the impetuous, rebelling teenager. Each story is humorous and cruel; my heart breaks with understanding as Morag tells her only daughter that she hates her, and loves her in practically the same moment. I cannot conceive of how Ms Macdonald has managed to capture the words which express so perfectly a kind of pain that all women deal with - and I must add here that the men in her plays are just as powerful. These scripts provide a richness of modern Scottis! h life and the women, the families, the people who struggle to survive and discover what "it all" really means. If you have found your way to this review please do yourself a favor and read Sharman. She'll say it like you've never heard it before - think Career Girls or Secrets and Lies (Mike Leigh). If you are an actor you will find her plays to be a terrific fountain of material; if you are a woman, I can bet you won't find many stories that strike closer to the soul.

It's been around for years because it works. You have music with foreign words to help you in the interpretation of the music. You don't want to learn how to speak it fluently. You just want to play it the best you can! You can quickly find those foreign terms in this little dictionary. Look it up before your friends do and impress them with your knowledge! Highly recommended reference tool.

This is a great book: it teaches how to evaluate the balance of teritorry, which is a fundamental ability for players of all levels.
One cannot just play blindly, but make all decisions according to the situation: should play aggresively when behind, and cautiously when ahead.

I saw this book in a Christian store and sat down to take a look. I knew instantly that I had to get it! I bought the last copy and ended up buying more on Amazon for gifts. It just makes you feel good when you read it!!!

The best color illustrations and the topical index is extremely helpful!!! Otherwise a good all round US catalog, by Scott number.

This book is excellent..It is simple to understand and helps you to see how much control you have over your own destiny just by changing the flow of the chi or yin and yang process. I have practiced this and it works. I went through every house plan that I ever lived in and was amazed at the things that had happened in my life that were influenced by the Feng Shui of these homes. Even a miscarriage that my mother had when I was eight was shown by these floor plans, windows and door arrangements. It may sound crazy, but it works even when you are not aware. It gives understanding to why bad things happen to good people.
