God truely gave Gracie Malone a gift, when He led her to write this book.
The tips she adds to the end of each chapter, for things you can do with your grandchildren, are wonderful. A blessing for grandparents. I plan to use this when I have grandchildren.
Within the first chapter, I decided this is going to be my standard gift to friends when they become grandparents.
Mrs. Malone shares some wonderful experiences with her precious grandchildren in this book. I feel it is a "must read." It is very insightful as well as entertaining.

M. Basil Pennington wrote wonderfully to share all that God meant to him in his life on this earth. While this book was written from the context of monastic life, I found it very helpful in my own spiritual journey.

As a Spiritual Director, I appreciated Pennington's strong encouragement and clear statement in this book about the value of spiritual directors to the journey of others.

The vocation of being a monk is one that grows increasingly more difficult to understand for the many of us who live in the hustle and bustle of the modern world, but thanks to Father Pennington's beautiful work, monastic life becomes an inspiration to us all. Not at all intended to recruit prospective brothers, instead this book transcribes the habits of being a monk into our daily lives, so that we all may know the peace that these devoted brothers have as they pray for all of us in the rest of the world. "A Place Apart" is an inspiration for any who read it, and demonstrates effectively the necessity for silence and prayer in whatever it is we may do.

If you missed "A Place Apart" in 1983, you can come to this second edition assured that little has been changed. The publisher encouraged Fr. Pennington to issue this edition with a new introduction and photographs because of the many reader requests for a new copy of the book - their copies had begun falling apart with constant use. In "A Place Apart," Fr. Pennington makes it clear that "the call...to enter into the solitude of God, is not the exclusive prerogative of the monk." He believes that everyone who deeply feels the desire and need will find or create a place apart - a place to go with regular frequency for prayer and solitude. Each chapter describes a monastic practice that can be adapted or adopted by the layperson seeking to develop a more prayerful routine on the spiritual journey. The original "A Place Apart" grew out of several years of what Fr. Pennington calls "colloquia or monastic bull sessions" with men who came to the monastery as part of their process of vocation discernment. And the decision to publish the interesting and thought-provoking substance of those sessions was the result of his desire to respond to the many men and women who were looking for monastic values and practices to incorporate into their often very active lives. Fr. Pennington goes on to emphasize the importance of silence in the monastic life, but reminds us that although Trappists do not take a vow of silence, they do follow rules that require silence at certain times and in special places. And to us he says, "If you want the value of silence in your life you will have to find or create places of silence, you will have to agree on times of silence." When Fr. Pennington treats the subject of work and the monk, and how the layperson might adopt the monastic attitude toward work, he makes the point that although the monk "is to be conscious of his duty to cooperate with the divine creative energies in moving the creation along toward its goal," that duty is not solely "...the prerogative of monks, but the call of all Christians." In his Postword to the book, Fr. Pennington urges us to go beyond wishing to live like Christ. "We have to be eminently practical about such wishes and make them efficacious desires by practical planning and action."

Distilled knowledge of what works for consultants

"142 Insider Marketing Secrets" pretty much sums up what's inside this great book. Although small (175 pages) it provides very detailed and specific recommendations.

Not all of the 142 secrets are earth-shattering, but there's more than 100 valuable ideas. The four authors compliment each other nicely. If I were to advise them before publishing I would have wanted only to read Bernard Zick's recommendations because he's such a whiz on marketing in this area. But surprisingly, I found the other authors to add significantly to the focus of the book as they had to face how to market themselves in their specialties.

This is a book that you will want to review at least annually, perhaps as you plan the next years activities. There are many unusual techniques or ideas in this book that I had not seen elsewhere.

Power Marketing for Consultants: 142 Insider Marketing Secrets Used by the Nation's Top Consultants, by Marjorie Brody, Allen D'Angelo, Bill Kerley, and Bernard Zick unveil the power marketing secrets that justify why top consultants are making four times as such money as average consultants and have more time to enjoy their own lives. The authors of Power Marketing for Consultants: 142 Insider Marketing Secrets Used by the Nation's Top Consultants (Power Marketing for Consultants) are all highly successful consultants who enjoy what they do and are highly respected in the consulting arena. Brody, D'Angelo, et al. have taken thousands of working hours over the last twenty-five years and clearly stated their marketing and consulting philosophy in their book. The authors' research has shown that there is a large group of consultants on the lower end of the success curve and those who fall among the nation's most successful consultants. Successful consultants are storyteller, magicians, and highly successful in their area of expertise. The "magic" that successful consultants seem to perform is a result of well organized and highly tactical "power marketing." Power Marketing for Consultants is organized into three major marketing topic areas: Power Marketing Strategies, Power Marketing Tactics, and Power Marketing Maxims. Within the three topic areas each one of the authors highlighted their own marketing issues and practices. Just as the title implies there are 142 tips or suggestions in the book; they serve as their own chapters within the three major marketing themes. It is easy reading and is very direct, nothing is held back. When comparing Power Marketing for Consultants to Peter Block's book Flawless Consulting, Second Edition I believe Brody, D'Angelo, et al's work to be more organized and targeted towards a more professional audience. The target audience reached by Brody, D'Angelo, et. al. are young professionals or those who trying to gain further success and insight in their own consulting career. Robert B. Cialdini, author of Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion, noted that, "Power Marketing for Consultants provides a rich source of valuable experience and insights for enhancing the consulting process." The authors of Power Marketing for Consultants have many of the same goals as Cialdini, they are result driven and have determined the only real challenge in life is getting people to comply with you. Getting compliance can be done several different ways, however, Brody, D'Angelo, et. al made several marketing suggestions to help consultants establish and maintain both valuable and beneficial relationships. In the "Power Marketing Strategies-Strengthening Your Foundation," portion of the book there are several helpful suggestions made. For example, writing down your goals, make a marketing log, keeping money in the bank, and obtaining better clients are just a few of the helpful suggestions given. "Power Marketing Tactics: Powering It Up," section made reference to joining professional and community organizations, hiring a public relations professional, getting into cyberspace, networking with non-competitive consultants, serving as a Master of Ceremonies, and writing articles for professional journals. Lastly, Brody, D'Angelo, et. al focuses on "Power Marketing Maxims: For Enduring Success" here they reinforce how important it is to be reliable and responsible, having a good sense humor, and understanding the Law of Cause and Effect. Brody, D'Angelo, Kerey, and Zick have taken their insider knowledge to what has made them successful and laid it out on the table; their work in this book clearly mirrors their success in each of their various areas of expertise. The information available in Power Marketing for Consultants: 142 Insider Marketing Secrets Used by the Nation's Top Consultants, by Marjorie Brody, Allen D'Angelo, Bill Kerley, and Bernard Zick is practical, sustainable, and time tested. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in being respected among the nation's top consultants.

This is one of my favorite animal ark books! It is about an owner who comes into the ark with an Old English sheep dog puppy that isn't responding. It turns out that the pup is deaf and cannot be a working dog. Then one day Mandy and James are having a dog wash and at the end of the day they find and old English sheep dog puppy supposedly abandoned in a water puddle. I won't give the book away but it has to do with a puppy mill and two people mixed up in it! Please read this book it is great!

Future veterinarian Mandy Hope, and her best friend James Hunter can't wait until the last day of school - which is quickly approaching. It is at this time that they'll finally be reunited with their close friend, John Hardy, the son of the proprietors of the Fox and Goose, who is currently away at boarding school. But the end of the school year also marks another very special occasion - We Love Animals Day! Mandy has participated in We Love Animals Day for years, and each year she strives to come up with a wonderful idea to raise money and awareness for animals. This year, however, she is determined to do everything she can to raise as much money as possible. And with the help of James, she knows that she'll be able to do just that. But Mandy's mind keeps wandering away to the tiny Old English Sheepdog that her father, and resident Animal Ark veterinarian, Dr. Adam, diagnosed as being deaf. Mandy can't help but feel sorry for the puppy, who will spend the rest of his days in silence, never knowing what it's like to hear his name called, or hear the voices of children playing. But Mandy's sadness turns to frustration and anger when she stumbles upon another Old English Sheepdog puppy abandoned in the parking lot of the Fox and Goose. The little pup is weak, and hungry, and made up of skin and bones, and no one has claimed her. Mandy knows that something strange is going on - and so do her parents. So, with the help of James, Mandy begins investigating the situation, attempting to pinpoint where these Old English Sheepdog puppies are coming from, and who would treat them so cruelly. But then she begins to wonder whether they're being mistreated by a local breeder, and realizes that maybe she'll need more than just James' help. Maybe this time, she'll need the help of someone more powerful - like the SPCA.

As someone who volunteered at an animal shelter for years, and is the owner of a deaf cat - who I adopted - I have seen various animals come and go who have been mistreated by not only their owners, but breeders, as well. These animals are often overlooked by society, so I was thrilled to find that Ben M. Baglio would shine a spotlight on the problem by creating an entire ANIMAL ARK book about it. PUPPY IN A PUDDLE is a wonderful depiction of puppy mills and the breeding business, in general. It not only shows the genetic problems puppies (or any animal, for that matter) can inherit from their parents, as well as how they are often cast aside by the people using them as a business. Mandy, as always, is a sympathetic character, whose determination to get to the bottom of the problem is admirable, as well as heroic. Her ability to stay cool, calm, and collected as she investigates the problems - no matter how harsh - are inspiring; while her kindness towards the "suspects" still shines through. Mandy's sidekick, James, also deserves a mention, as he is quick-thinking, and slightly calculating, and Mandy would not survive without his wits. A remarkable addition to the series.

a dog is brought for his 12 week vacinations and theres a problem - the dog seemes to be much less then 12 weeks old. It soon becomes aparent that this dog is deaf. Then when mandy finds a dog almost identical to the deaf one a few days later she believes something is wrong.

Could a local dog breeder be mistreating puppies? Not only that but several liters? And seperating them from their mom too soon? fond out by reading.

My six year old son enjoys Ready, Freddy! but I was hesitant to purchase this title because I was afraid it would cause nightmares. To my delight, quite the opposite happened after we read it. Freddy tries different ways to stop his nightmares and, in the end, he discovers the Dream Police. The police are three of his stuffed animals. My son loved this and now brings his Dream Police to bed and has not had any night time fears since.

I teach first graders, and they absolutely love the "Ready, Freddy!" series of books. This particular book is about our hero, Freddy, getting to take home the class hamster, Harold, for the weekend. While Freddy's mother is not thrilled about the idea of any animal in her house, she finally relents and lets Freddy bring home the hamster. In true Freddy form, craziness ensues as soon as he gets Harold into the house.
I strongly recommend the "Ready, Freddy!" series of books for students. While the words may be a little difficult for some first graders to read on their own, using this book to read to/with your child or class is a fun and engaging use of time.

My first grader loves the Ready, Freddy series. We have all the books, and enjoy reading them together. The main character is a first grade boy who loves sharks. Freddy is a good kid, with a realistic relationship with his big sister, and simple (though important) problems. I read one chapter a night, and now that he's improving in reading, my son is starting to read some on his own! Also, each of the illustrations has the word "fin" hidden in it. It's fun to look for it.

While we like Junie B., she can get into a bit of trouble and uses some language that we don't. Ready, Freddy is a better fit for us.

Reading this book has made me comfortable with my most inner feelings that a spiritual world really exists. A Sense of Heaven reveals Margaret's feelings, experiences and total commitment to this end. When reading this book, I was excited that Margaret was expressing her interaction with the spiritual world in such a down-to-earth manner. This is a book that I will be reading over and over in order to glean all of what Margaret is trying to tell us.

Margaret Morry Bulko is a natural orator and can articulate her life experiences in a way that engulfs your soul and leaves you wanting more. Her experiences are intriguing, exciting and inspirational to all who seek a deeper meaning to life and life after death.
This book offers answers to some very deep questions regarding life, death and the importance of utilizing the "gifts" that God has provided one with to their fullest potential in order to reach our own self actualization. Her deep spiritual relationship with God dispels the cloud of suspicion that some religious groups have placed on mystiology. The result of this is a practical tool introducing a connection between God and the supernatural that will intimately touch people from all religious backgrounds and belief systems.
Margaret's continuous quest for answers to her visions, experiences and calling led her to the creation of this amazing book along with a life of helping others discover their own truths.
If there is one definitive thing a reader will gain from reading this book, it will be the invaluable gift of knowledge. Knowledge that there is life beyond the physical, knowledge that we are here for a purpose, knowledge that all things are inter-connected to this life as well as past lives and most importantly the knowledge that we are being guided, protected and infinitely loved through our journey here.
Margaret's book is an inspiration to me and something I will read again and again. She is a woman of amazing visions, gifts and spirituality.
This book will touch your soul and the essence of your very being.

A Sense of Heaven by Margaret Morry Bulko is a 'MUST HAVE' for the library of any person who truly seeks spiritual enlightenment. This documentary of her life's work as a psychic, mentor, and revelator of God's Word is highly spiritual and is the best I have read in a LONG time. It is an EXCELLENT book, well-written, full of insightful thoughts and information that keep you spellbound from beginning to end. Her exeriences are intriguing and bolster a sense of assurance that joy and inner peace is real and attainable. I know because this is what the book has done for me. It helped me to understand the experiences I have had in my life and made me realize that they are not necessarily wrong or unnatural, but that they are a part of my soul's forward movement to attain one-ment with God. As the author so rightly states, this book is a 'journey of the soul' and through reading about her experiences, my soul has been enriched, enlightened, and I feel like I have a brand new beginning. I hope that readers everywhere will gain the same insight and rewards from reading this book that I did. 'A Sense of Heaven' is a true blessing and I'm glad God led me to it.

I haven't tried any of the recipes yet, but I generally have a good eye for "deliciousness"---and these recipes look very good. In addition, most members of my family are vegetarians and as I reviewed the book, I thought of easy substitutions or deletions--for example the Corn Chowder---I could make it without the bacon, and sprinke dried, jarred bacon on before serving to my son. The hot cocoa recipe looks luscious and I am reminded of the best cocoa I ever had which was slowly heated for about 2 hrs on the stove top---the crockpot would make that much easier. Who ever thought peach cobbler, our favorite dessert, could be made in a crockpot?

This is a nicely bound cookbook, with thick, wipe clean pages. The illustrations of the various recipes as well as the ingredients, are in color and are very appealing and helpful! The cookbook was designed to stand up to much reference. The recipes are extensive and cover many categories. The recipes are easy to understand and prepare. The cookbook is quite informative for a book this size and length. This book is very nice to have if you have a slow cooker. An added positive feature is that there is a nice metric conversion chart in back, if you are in a place that uses the metric system, like Canada.

Have created several of these great recipes. Nutritous and tasty. With our family being on the go and working 12 hour shifts, crock pot cooking is definitely a must.

My 4 year old son loves this book. My son does love books and being read to but due to his autism, I sometimes wonder how much he understands about what he is reading. Autistic people are visual learners so the pictures mixed with the words is a wonderful way for him to understand the book and get excited about it. I read it to him last night, and this morning when we were getting dressed, he pretended he was the boy in the book by putting is pants on his head. That is truly amazing for him to so actively pretend play like that. I then read the book to him again and then he went through it by himself to read it again. I am now looking for more of these types of books for him. My older daughter also loved this book and so did her entire kinder. class. I highly recommend this book.

my favorite of the books in the series

The author of this story must be a very ingenious writer.
Most writers would undoubtedly be at a loss to combine animal names, names of clothes items, and names of body parts in a single plot--and furthermore incorporate the element of children's repartee.

For beginning readers or ESL students, you can use this book for a lesson on any of these three topics.

Fun reading prep for young children, with flash cards

My two-year-old brings this book to me all the time. Simple text augmented with rebus pictures means that he can participate in reading the book, and he loves that!

Silly Willy needs to get dressed but he is, after all, silly. So he puts his pants on his head and his hat on his nose, etc. each time prompting his mother to tell him he looks like some animal, such as a bunny or a duck. It is a sweet, if slight, little story, and Willy and his mom obviously have a happy and friendly relationship. Willy's mom helps him get things right in the end, though Willy asserts that he is still silly.

Twenty-four flash cards are fun for children who can point or speak, and primarily contain objects found in the book.

The whole series of All Aboard Readers is worthwhile, and Silly Willy is no exception.

very cute and promotes learning to boot.

Silly Willy is in the process of getting dressed. As he dresses he puts his clothes where they don't belong. He puts his pants on his head and his mom says no, you look like a rabbit-silly willy. Finally, he gets the right things on the right places. This is all done with cute rhymes and pictures for words. Between the pictures are simple words that have rhyming phrases. My 3 year old LOVES to help me "read" the book. My 5 year old loves to read it. In the back of the book are flash cards that you can read through for fun at the end of the book. They don't have to be used for "drilling" your kids. Mine love to practice their reading this way.

I have to say this whole series of all aboard reading is terrific. My kids love the stories and there is definately improvement in their word recognition.
