Steers does a great job of detailing Chung's personal and business character, along with providing a detailed history of the growth of Hyundai in the larger context of the Korean economy. I highly recommend it!

Detailed Research on the Korean ChaebolReview Date: 1998-12-22
You will understand how the Korean economy is structured and operating in South Korea and why they have the problems facing today.
Also very valuable is the part on the difference between Japanese and Korean business operation in the States. It reminds the rest of the world about what difficulities would be encountered and what issues should be pay attention to.

Hyundai Excel Valve Stem Seal Replacement ProcedureReview Date: 1999-07-04
First, most shops will quote 6 to 6.3 hours to replace valve stem seals on a Hyundai Excel. Why, if this is such a simple procedure as the manual indicates, should they charge 6 hours?
Secondly, the procedure asks the back yard mechanic to feed nylon rope through the spark plug holes to keep the valves from dropping into the engine when removing valve stem springs. There is no mention about the type, diameter, or length of nylon rope required, thus making it an expensive hit/miss guess. I have tried to feed rope in through the dinky spark plug holes. This procedure has proven ineffective. The suggestion to use rope instead of compressed air to keep the valve from dropping into the engine is an ineffective one. If anyone knows how to feed the rope in through the spark plug holes so that the rope adequately fills the combustion chamber instead of kinking up inside the engine, please let me know how it is done.
Thirdly, using the same valve compression tool as given in the manual, there is no mention anywhere about how difficult it is to use the valve spring tool in such a tight space. Even when I eventually was able to compress most of the valve spring, I still was unable to compress the valve springs sufficiently to remove the valve spring keepers.

The book would be much nicer if each task was started with a fully put together car instead of over the course of a complete teardown.
