I really loved this book. It is exciting, informative and easy reading. I only met Mr. Ford briefly at a book signing, but the tenor of the book feels like Mr. Ford, himself: charming, knowledgeable, sophisticated and fun. Lots of information regarding marina life, boating, boats and the the whole marina thing. I like the way he structured the book and his characters jump off the page. Each is exclusively expressive and well-defined.

Precious Cargo is fantastic reading!! This novel is filled with adventure, many interesting characters - especially Charlie Noble who I quickly fell in love with - and a story which will astound you. So vividly written, I felt I was right there in the midst of everything. Charlie Noble's quest to search for truth is inspiring. This is my first Clyde Ford novel and I am "HOOKED"! Clyde Ford is a brilliant author.

I just finished your recent book Precious Cargo. I greatly enjoyed your writing, character development, and story line. It is a sad statement on the condition of illegal immigrants and what they face trying to make a better life for themselves and their family's. I really liked Charlie Nobel, Nobel Lady and Raven, not to forget Kate. I hope this is the beginning of a continuing series.

Please continue to write as you have a great gift. Your writing allows me escape and think about the human condition. Isn't that what it is all about?

I've been a sailor along the beautiful New England coast for over 50 years. Clyde Ford has now opened my senses to the exciting sailing areas of the Northwest with his thrilling and descriptive Charlie Noble adventures. The fact that Clyde wove a Nonsuch sailboat (my favorite) into the the story just added to my enjoyment.

I couldn't wait to read Precious Cargo after reading the first Charlie Noble book, Red Herring. I was not surprised that I also couldn't put this book down. Clyde Ford takes you, with his characters, through a spellbinding story and has you experience beautiful destinations. His characters become real as you are able to share their journey. A great mystery fan, I so admire Charlie's theories and deductions. Raven entering into the scheme of things adds depth. Great action, great scenes, heartfelt characters, great author. What more could you ask for, but more books. Thanks, Clyde.

All rough guides that I have encountered are chock full of great information. The Egypt guide in particular is one of the best. The number of maps is fantastic and the quality of the information is comparable to what you usually have to visit the site to obtain.

I went to Egypt in February 2006 with my wife and our two boys (5 and 2.5 years). Although we took a package tour to Hurghada, we actually overnighted there only three nights of the eleven we were in Egypt. The rest we spent moving around (Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, busses, train, cruise ship, jeep). For the whole trip we spent around 1000 USD plus the package. We could have easily spent twice as much (or, more precisely -- seen twice as little because the budget was limited) if not the hints in the book.

Thanks to this book we got a great offer for a two night last-minute Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor. By taxi (30 USD, 80 km round trip, an option that without the book would not be even considered) we visited pyramids of Giza and Dahshur. Dahshur (as described in the book) has the second largest pyramid in Egypt as well as the strangest-shaped one (The Bent Pyramid). We were there alone if not the half a dozen French travellers -- it is an experience much different from one you get at Giza where your awe about the greatness of the structures is mixed considerably with the awe about the number of people around.

The bargaining tips and information on ticket prices were so accurate in tiniest details! We started laughing when a typical merchant approached us in Luxor and asked for our help in writing a letter in English to "his friend from abroad" -- our book speciffically mentioned this trick used by shopkeepers to lure unsuspecting tourists!

Enough -- if you are going to Egypt and want to see the real thing, get this book!

This was an indispensable guide when I traveled to Cairo last year. The author gives quite an honest look at what to love about Egypt and what to really keep your distance from (I'm looking at you, scamming touts, in front of the Egyptian Museum!). This guide really prepares you for the trip and helps you experience more than what the typical tourist sees. I also used this guide when i took the train into Alexandria-- again very helpful, especially with cafe and restaurant recommendations.

With insight, grace and humor this writer elaborates on the attributes of lovingkindness. He weaves the wisdom of many religious disciplines into his stories.
Rather than feel that he's behind an invisible pulput, his teaching seems to simply unfold, making it sweetly accessible to heart, mind and soul.
His medium and his message are one.

Rami has a way about him. His interfaith writings are insightful, maddening and calming all at the same time. If you want to learn how you can feel love and acceptance towards others and respond to people in a loving way, give The Art of Lovingkindness a careful read. But beware, Rami does not let you just read, he involves every part of your being in the active pursuit of godliness. You won't be disappointed.

I could feel my attitudes changing as I read this book, slowly, chapter by chapter. I am so grateful to this author for teaching me about how to cultivate equanimity and what anger really is and how to try my best to avoid falling into it. This is one of the best books I have ever read because it tells me that I will fall short of my intention to be a better person, and that's ok, as long as I keep pursuing my spiritual growth. Thank you for writing this book, Rabbi Rami Shapiro! I recommend this book to anyone who wants to cultivate a healthier, more rewarding spriritual life no matter what religion they do or don't practice.

Really a very interesting read. Picked this up shortly after Ford died and it was really interesting to see his final thoughts on this most controversial period in American history. The ultimate truth may never be known, but with Ford being the last member of the Warren Commission, this beautiful volume will stand as the last comment on the subject from that committee. Proud to have it in my collection.

This book features many never-before-seen photos from the Kennedy Presidential Library as well as a new introduction from President Gerald Ford. I found this new foreword very fascinating. He went into great detail about many of the misconceptions abou the Warren Commission and was quite candid. He mentioned many names of people who are currently in high offices in the U.S. Government.
The quality of this book is amazing and it tops anything the Easton Press has ever done!

I straddle the fence on whether I believe the lone gunman theory that was the conclusion of the Warren Commission, but there's no equivocation about my admiration for this beautiful leatherbound, gilt-edged edition which includes a new Foreword by President Gerald Ford. Also, while I disagree with Ford's pardoning of Nixon, there's no denying the historical importance of the work he did on the Warren Commission, and it's safe to assume that his new material in this edition will represent his final public thoughts on the JFK assassination.

Conspiracy Promoters Might Not Like It, But The Evidence Is Shouting Out The Name Of JFK's Killer -- "Lee Harvey Oswald"!
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2006-01-15
In September 1964, Chief Justice Earl Warren handed a thick book to President Lyndon B. Johnson at the White House. That heavy tome was the final "Warren Commission Report" regarding the investigation into the November 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

The seven-member Warren Commission panel (plus its staff of counsel members and legal staff), in a nearly ten-month probe into the circumstances surrounding the murder of JFK, arrived at a conclusion which has divided America ever since -- they concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald, by himself, had fired all of the bullets that struck down and killed President Kennedy in Dallas, Texas.

A vast majority of people vehemently disagree with these WC findings. I, however, am not a member of that majority. Lee Harvey Oswald was indeed, in my opinion, the sole gunman that day in Dallas. The physical evidence (as well as the circumstantial evidence) that is currently in the official record tells me that Oswald was most certainly the murderer of America's 35th President.

And when virtually ALL of the hard, PHYSICAL evidence in a criminal case leans one way and supports one single conclusion, reaching an opposite conclusion (as most conspiracy theorists have done with respect to the evidence in the JFK case) -- i.e., that Oswald is totally INNOCENT of the two murders he was charged with on 11/22/63 (both JFK's and police officer J.D. Tippit's as well) -- defies all logic and reasoned thinking.

Like most things in life, the John Kennedy murder case can be reduced (in most areas within it) to common sense and the hard, documented physical evidence, and we all know where the latter leads -- right straight into the two guns of one Lee Harvey Oswald (his Mannlicher-Carcano rifle plus his revolver, the latter which was used to kill Officer Tippit). Plus, the "common sense" part of that equation leads directly to Lee Oswald and his weaponry as well. And "common sense" would tell anybody that Oswald is guilty.

I was thinking recently about the following quote by author-attorney-LNer Vincent Bugliosi (I think a lot about his comments, because they make so much "sense" of the "common" variety).....

"Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the assassination of President Kennedy. The evidence is absolutely overwhelming that he carried out the tragic shooting all by himself. In fact, you could throw 80 percent of the evidence against him out the window and there would still be more than enough left to convince any reasonable person of his sole role in the crime." -- Vince Bugliosi

.....And then, just for the sake of illustrating the validity of the above-mentioned statement made by Mr. Bugliosi, I went about the task of tossing out certain pieces of evidence that lead toward Oswald's guilt in both the JFK and Tippit murders.....and I came to the conclusion, after stripping away several "LHO Is Guilty" items, that the following two things prove Lee Harvey Oswald guilty beyond a reasonable doubt (or at least they prove his guilt beyond all of my personal "reasonable doubt")......

1.) Lee Harvey Oswald's rifle was positively the weapon that was used to assassinate President Kennedy and wound Texas Governor John Connally. (With said weapon being found inside the building where Oswald was definitely located at 12:30 PM on November 22, 1963, when both of these men were wounded by rifle fire.)

2.) Oswald was seen carrying a bulky paper package into his place of employment at the Texas School Book Depository Building on the morning of 11/22/63, and Oswald (beyond a reasonable doubt) lied about the contents of this package to a co-worker.*

* = As an extension to #2 above --- We KNOW Oswald lied about the "curtain rods" based on the following:

A.) No "curtain rods" were found anywhere within the Book Depository after the assassination.

B.) Oswald definitely did not carry any package inside his roominghouse at 1026 N. Beckley Avenue when he arrived back home just prior to 1:00 PM on the afternoon of the assassination.

A and B above add up to the inescapable fact that: No "curtain rods" were in that paper package on 11/22/63.

Adding #1 to #2 above, all by themselves, with nothing else in evidence but those items, makes Oswald a guilty assassin.

Now, when you start adding in the wealth of ADDITIONAL physical and circumstantial evidence against Oswald -- his guilt is then proven not beyond just a "reasonable" doubt...but it's proven beyond any SPECK of a doubt.**

** = Things like: Oswald's prints on a paper bag IN THE SNIPER'S NEST; which was a paper bag that perfectly matches the type of bag that co-worker Wesley Frazier said Oswald carried into the Depository building at 8:00 AM on November 22nd. (With a nicely-incriminating "right palmprint" of Oswald's later discovered by the police in the VERY SPOT on that bag which equates PERFECTLY with the precise way Frazier said Oswald carried the bag in his right hand! That's a very important point, IMO, and is undeniably-strong physical evidence of Oswald's guilt.)

Plus there are these additional items: Eyewitness Howard Brennan's positive IDing of Oswald as a gunman in the Sniper's Nest window. .... The Tippit murder that was unquestionably committed by Oswald. .... The fingerprints of Oswald located on the rifle, plus his prints located on multiple boxes DEEP WITHIN THE SNIPER'S NEST. .... Oswald having no verifiable alibi for the precise time when President Kennedy was being gunned down on Elm Street at 12:30 PM on 11/22/63. .... Oswald dashing out of the TSBD at approximately 12:33 PM, just minutes after a U.S. President had been shot within yards of Oswald's workplace. .... And Oswald's other lies he told to the police after his arrest (apart from the obvious large lie re. the curtain rods).

But it all starts with the basic points brought out by #1 and #2 above. The evidence (and Oswald's OWN words and actions) tell a reasonable person that Lee H. Oswald was guilty as ever-lovin' sin of two murders in 1963, and there's nothing any CTer (or anybody else on the planet) can do or say to change that basic of all facts.

The conspiracists will continue to try to set Oswald free, of course, like always. But the more a reasonable person examines the evidence (and applies just a small dose of ordinary common sense to these facts in evidence), the more hollow, shallow, and inept all those pro-conspiracy arguments become.

Will's Hope is a passionate story about a young boy's relationship with his horse, his family, his close friends, his God, and the development of his own character from small-town boy to young man. From the beginning, it is an emotional, inspiring, extremely well-written story which would most certainly appeal to a variety of audiences. Anyone with a love for horses and the appreciation for the devout relationship between a human and a horse or a child's love and admiration for their parent will surely appreciate this chronicle.

Bonnie has a gift of writing which grabs the reader from the onset as well as leaves the future open for other characters and resolutions - and the reader waiting for more of the story. She embraces this character as her own and her love for her father, the inspiration for her story - can most certainly be felt through her writing.

A great, warm & fuzzy story, - this book would make a great inspirational gift and/or a fantastic summer-reading book for any young person.

This book is written to bring the spirit of our Creator closer to anyone who reads it. Anyone seeking solace in the natural world will find comfort in the quiet yet strong images that the author has created. These images, while beautifully described, are also accurate and based in the interrelationships of ecology. The author has described the interactions of humans with the Creator's natural world using the garden as the metaphor. Well done! A wonderful and calming experience!

Wisdom from the Gardens: Life Lessons is a beautifully illustrated compact book full of themes anyone seeking balance of mind, body and spirit in today's world will find helpful. This book provides a "spiritual blueprint" with nature as the medium through which Mary Beth Ford illustrates her own life-spiritual learnings. Through each of the book's chapters she answers the question: What lessons does nature teach if I choose to quiet my busy mind and pay close attention?

Nature also brings me peace. Hiking is a very spiritual and exhilarating experience for me. I hike one particular mountain throughout the year. After reading Dr. Ford's book, I was better able to observe my own "tree friends" through each season and more deeply contemplate the life lessons presented in her book.

I like that the author does not claim to be an expert, rather she humbly shares her life-long spiritual journey and learnings with her readers. Dr. Ford is certainly a beautiful writer and one can readily picture the various images and feelings that the gardens evoke in her. She has lived a full life working in a variety of occupations and experiencing joy, sadness and many challenges. She wrote the book during the time of her brother's diagnosis and subsequent death from lung cancer, from which many of the lessons are derived.

Regardless of your spiritual orientation, you will learn much from this book -again and again! Read it through the first time, then keep it by your bed or desk and pick out a paragraph now and then to contemplate for the day. I highly recommend this book.

I'm grateful to Dr. Ford for sharing her own challenges in seeking balance in a hectic world.

Not only did I find myself engrossed with the author's observations of her natural surroundings; but, I felt as though I was meditating, or in some kind of spiritual dimension. I was amazed by the clarity and sense of oneness that the author created for her reader. It was profoundly healing and wise - obviously written from the soul. A must read for anyone who feels a connection between the natural world and the soul of humanity.

Having known hundreds of combat soldiers, dozens of whom were rangers, and having read more than a hundred of their after action debriefings, this is the best no frills account of the LRP war by a member of an elite group. It is from the heart. I could tell he still doesn't exactly understand a few things, and that is what separates this book out for me... This book is essential reading for those who seek simple truths from basic men, as are the books of Tim O'Brien and John Leppelman. Ford's tale is the only one that brought tears to my eyes after all these years.

This book is a must for those interested in what really happened in LRP units in Vietnam. The bond that existed among these men and the sacrifices they would make for each other was what the LRP's were all about. Mr. Ford is the only credible author to come out of F/51st LRP, and his book, like those of Kenn Miller, Rey Martinez,Kregg Jorgensen and a small handful of others are must reads if you are either a military history buff, or just want to know the truth.

This book is a must read for anyone interested in the soldiers perspective during the Vietnam War. To make it even more interesting, the reader is told an account from the mind of a ranger. How anyone could infiltrate enemy territory with just six men is still an enigma to me? These men were nothing more than kids, yet they were given the horrific task of seeking and destroying a people in their own backyard. This is not the first book I have read about Vietnam, and yet I still couldn't put it down.

This is the book I've been waiting for. No hype, no cheerleading, just a book that shows you how to find your job very quickly. Unemployment is very expensive, and Dr. Ford shows you how to minimize it. I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs that next job yesterday.

Bookstall 99 is proud to add "The Accelerated Job Search" to our list of recommended business and professional books. We look at many books, recommend very few, and our reviewers must be in total agreement before we issue our approvals. This book we felt was exceptional in it's use of resources, in-depth research, timliness, and ease of reading. It is the only book on job search we are recommending. Dr. Wayne Ford has done an excellent job in producing a complete text for the job hunter, regardless of the level of experience. He logically lays out a sequential approach to getting organized, setting up an effective strategy, and following proven methods in achieving success. A particularly well thought out book with the reader in mind.

The system and techniques laid out in this book really work. The proof is that it helped me find a very good job in a short amount of time. It gives you the best techniques available step by step. I admit I bought 7 books when I started looking for a job. This is by far the best one. Everything I did improved, from my resume to time management to organizing. I am enthusiastically recommending this book to any and all job hunters.

All Moms....if you're even remotely interested in this book, I would recommend it very highly. My daughter & I began to have many conflicts before she became a teenager. I kept hoping things would get better eventually, but they weren't. I really felt like I was at my wit's-end. In my online searching, I purchased this & read it as soon as I got it. I am not saying it has solved all problems between my daughter & me, but it has really helped me to understand things from her point of view. It is so well-written & so insightful! I am definitely going to order some as gifts for my friends who have daughters. I could go on & on but I'd rather just encourage you to get on with ordering it.

What an outstanding depiction of a mother and daughter.

Wow! How close can you get without actually being a part of something. This book really gets you involved and does a great job of relating the feelings that are there between a mother and her daughter. A must buy, 5 star book.

I've bought many books trying to understand this passage in my and my daughter's life, and I needed to buy only this book. It confirmed with text what I was feeling and thinking and gave me a better perspective of her teenage life, which I had either forgotten or not come to grips with in these millennium years. I say the same about Wonderful Ways to Love a Teen, a companion book.

A refreshing book that both mothers and daughters will love!

This book is a true one-of-a-kind. Open, honest, and real, this book is full of practical ways that mothers and daughters can learn from each other to create a strong and loving relationship during the teen years. Each chapter begins with a true senerio that all mothers and daughters can relate to, (like the desire for body-piercings, learning/teaching to drive, dating/boys, etc.) then Judy and Amanda take time sharing each of their perspectives on the situation. The wonderful thing about this book is that it has both the mother's and the daughter's voice. The book is also beautifully designed on the inside with quotes, interesting facts, quizes and activites for mothers and daughters to enjoy together. I gaurentee that all teenage girls and their mothers will love this book!

This book is an excellent resource for the new OTTB horse owner, or even an experienced horse owner with their first OTTB. Anna Ford does an excellent job at describing the life of the OTTB at the track and gives step by step information on how to help the OTTB transition to a new career. It made the transition for my new OTTB mare smoother, and she is turning into a nice riding horse.

Absolutely wonderful book for the OTTB owner, rider, trainer, fan

Anyone who owns, rides, trains, vets, plans to own, or shoes an off-track thoroughbred (OTTB) simply must read and own this book. It is potentially the best thing that has ever happened to the retired race horse in the U.S. and Canada.

Here we get all the information that we so much need: What's different about the OTTB's training needs? What has the horse experienced in the past, from weaning to racing? How do this horse's metabolism, temperament, physiology, emotional psychology, and work ethic differ from those of the non-race breeds? How can we help an OTTB transition into new careers? What feed and turnout routine is optimal, and what are the tolerances for variation? Which types of conformation in OTTB's lend themselves to which riding disciplines?

I so wish I'd had access to this book when I purchased my OTTB 8 years ago. It would have saved us both many hours of mutual confusion and fright. Every single sentence of this book rings true to my own experience and all the best literature I've read on the subject of retraining a retired race horse. They are different! Emotionally sensitive, eager to please, often having been deprived of true herd membership by their previous lifestyles, the OTTB's are a conundrum to many ordinary training regimens including natural horsemanship techniques.

This book lays out the entire life of the average TB racehorse, from birth to retirement to rehab to new beginnings. Written by a racehorse trainer who is the daughter of a racehorse trainer, it is not critical of the racing industry but it is knowledgeable of the special needs these horses develop. A true love of the OTTB informs every page, and author Anna Morgan Ford now operates a retraining facility called New Vocations, so she knows both sides of the racehorse's life, from track training to second career choice. You will find answers to every important question here, and references to further reading and resources are generally provided.

The photos are gorgeous and you'll get to see OTTB's in all kinds of activities from dressage, eventing, and show-jumping to pole-bending and cutting. I got teary-eyed many times at the actually inspirational content: yes, the OTTB does every post-racing equine job imaginable, and yes, these wonderful horses will make willing partners in whatever job you give them, if you approach them with sensitivity and engage their willing and enormous hearts.

I'm so happy this book appeared. I really believe that the OTTB is going to benefit from it: more knowledge, more good sense, more successful adoptions and purchases, more great training and health advice, equals a lot of horses saved from slaughter and a lot of joy. If you have ever dreamed of owning a retired race-horse, this is the one book you must read: your lovely future horse will thank you many times with his whole great big heart and soul.

By far, the most comprehensive resource for re-training the retired racehorse. The first book I've read that explains the thoroughbred's life at the racetrack, common injuries, conformation traits, and a detailed schedule for successfully transitioning the retired thoroughbred into companion and show horse. Wonderful interviews with top US riders and beautiful photos. A must read for anyone with a retired thoroughbred or looking to buy one.
