Om man händelsevis har ett hjärta för Chyslers 426 Hemi så ärden här boken ett måste, jag kan inte se att det saknas några
detaljer. Troligtvis har Larry Shepard fullständiga kunskaper i ämnet.Trevligt att fördjupa sig i textmaterelet.

This book contains a remarkable collection of American neoclassical sculpture of the 19th century. It includes 70 masterworks
by 30 famous sculptors. Although neoclassicism first flowered in Europe, this book clearly illustrates that America produced
its own distinguished school of neoclassical sculptors, including Hiram Powers, Chauncey Ives, Joseph Mozier, Thomas Crawford,
and William Rinehart. This collection of sculpture will make you want to visit the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia,
which acquired the exhibit from the collector, James H. Ricau. The author, Nichols Clark, provides excellent notes on each
work and biographical sketches of each sculptor.
As someone who has visited many museums in America and abroad, I particularly enjoy photographing sculpture because of its three-dimensional and immortal qualities. The 73 colorplates and 135 black-and-whites are, for the most part, of outstanding quality, especially the statuary that is photographed against dark curtained backgrounds. Although I would prefer to see more use of subtle shadows to accent physical features and to capture the three-dimensional aspects of the works, the details are clearly defined and offset by the contrasting backgrounds. Although most of the works convey a pure, graceful, and elegant persona, reminiscent of Canova and Houdon, some evoke a more personal, emotional, and empathetic sense, such as a boy holding a dead bird and a girl with a broken tambourine.
I don't know of any artistic still-life medium that captures the sense of immortality any better than statuary sculpture. It should be noted that this neoclassical collection has a strong romantic, poetic, idealistic, and, sometimes mythological flavor, and it may not particularly appeal to viewers who prefer more abstract and modernistic sculpture. While artistic tastes may change over time, there is no denying that neoclassical sculptors produced an exquisite number of immortal masterpieces.

I've had this book for years, but often find myself paging through it as if it were new. There are really two components
to a book like this, the writing and the photographs. In this case, both are top-notch, comprehensive, and completely seductive.
These cars are great, and Tony Young shows and tells you why. Here he covers Mopar from the early days to the last of the
big breeds, including the racing program, the engineers, the marketing, the numbers, and the ratonale. There are lots of
interesting facts and stories here, and if you weren't a Mopar fan before reading this, you will be after.

Ever since the assasination of Martin Luther King, Jr. in Memphis, Tennessee in 1968, the rich legacy of the city and its
key role as a bridge and innovator in the Civil Rights struggle has been obscured at best and ignored at worst. From its heroic
role in the yellow fever epidemic, its pioneering contributions to the anti-lynching campaign, its legacy in health care and
educational leadership, its singular place in the birth of rhythm and blues to its leadership in the evolution of Gospel Music
and Black Christian Theology, Memphis has been largely ignored and unappreciated. Although its history as the King of Cotton
rivals the sugar kingdom of New Orleans and its place as the transportation corridor on the Mississippi Bluff excels Atlanta
and its presence as the center of hope and culture for Arkansas and Mississippi gave life to St Louis, Kansas City and Chicago
and refuge to persecuted refugees from Mississippi and Arkansas. The diversity of its Artistry gave life to every range of
Artist from blues to country, classical, opera, pop, jazz, be bop, spirituals and swing. Thanks to the pictures of Earnest
Withers and the richness of his living, the truth of Memphis and its heroic contributions can never be loss. He has recorded
its cross fertilization as a center of rebirth and growth. Because of his eye for the prize the Confederate city with an Egyptian
name has embraced the possibilities of its African roots and made the assassins place of Martin Luther King Jr. a place where
the immortality of Elvis grew out of the sounds of WC Handy and the richness of Beale Street. His own contribution as a soldier
policeman and father, both in tragedy and triumph, give credibilty and honesty to his insights and his vision. As a member
of my wife's maternal family and the actor James Earl Jones, and as a photographic ally of my brother, Benjamin Sims, I can
testify to the validity of his experience. Like Parks, his pictures belong among the great treasures in the annals of our
time. Anyone sincere about the history of Human rights should include his book as a permanent part of their library.

This is a great resource book for any Chrysler enthusiast. Huge array of pictures from the beginning of Chrysler Corporation.
Good discussions on the development of Chrysler from its origins in the Maxwell/Chalmers car company through the mid 1970's.
Year by year commentary of model and engineering developments. Heavy emphasis on the history of the company and the models
predating the second world war. Very complete and thorough. Many useful facts, figures and photograghs. I would recommend
this book to any Chrylser collector as a "must own" for their library. Makes a great identification guide.
