Lolita Hernandez does an excellent job of capturing the feel of working in a plant. Having worked in the same place during
the same period of time, the stories bring back what it was like with crystal clarity. When I heard Lolita had written this
book, I was initially interested solely because I had worked at Cadillac in Detroit. I wasn't sure anyone else would be able
to relate. However, Lolita's story telling gift brings everyone - familiar or not - into the heart of what it was like on
Clark Street in Detroit. Although each story somehow relates to the auto industry, the relationships and life struggles depicted
apply to a universally broad spectrum. Worth the time.

This book is strictly for the fan who likes to see big, colorful, modern-day pictures of classic Cadillacs. Tons of 57 Eldorado
Brougham pictures (and some great ones at that). Good coverage for the rest of the years with the exception of the seventies.
(Great '72 and '76 Eldorado Convert. shots though). Nice shots of '80 Seville (says its an Elegante, but it isn't). Biggest
waste of space are the pages dedicated to the Cimmarron. Hello! Anyone who knows Cadillac Fans knows that we don't even
consider that a real Cadillac in any way, shape, or form. Should have dedicated those pages to '84 Eldo Convert. I would
have sent them some great pics. of mine.

This Brooklands book is a collection of magazine articles from various car magazines from 1987-93. This book is the last word
on the Allante. Some color some BW pictures. The Allante was a wonderful car but like today's XLR over-priced and stuggling
to attract younger buyers.

An Old Warrior Gets Back in the Saddle Again

Langford "Ford" Morgan has a nice life in Costa Rica. He's got the perfect girl, good bank account, healthy business. The
perfect retirement. He's ex-CIA, perfectly happy to be out of the wars, perfectly content. Then he gets word from his ex-wife
that her son by her first marriage is in jail for shooting his father. The man isn't dead, but the son is being held without
bail. She wants Ford to come back to the States and prove her son is innocent.
He's not back in Santa Barbara long before he's in bed with the ex. But he quickly realizes it's a mistake when he meets the first hubby's mistress, she could be the love of his life, of course he's still got the current girl and the mistress is married and doesn't want anything to do with him.
Someone takes another shot at first hubby and is killed by a stranger in a cowboy hat who drives a Cadillac with a steer's horns on the hood. However the cops now let the son out of the can, as he couldn't have been involved in the second shooting. Mommy wants Ford to go home now, but he's got the mistress on the mind, along with a feeling of unease about a job not finished.
He finds out first hubby bought a lumber mill and is clear cutting the red woods. He believes there is a connection, meets a beautiful tree hugger, who wants to stop the raping and pillaging of the forest. The mistress spurns him again, but there is that tree hugger and of course the perfect Costa Rican girl and enough bad guys to shake a stick at.
Michael Collins has written still another mystery that will have you burning the midnight oil. It's just too gosh darned bad that they are so hard to get now. Somebody really out to make his books available again.

Robicheaux Rights Wrongs Readily Redux

Review Date: 2004-09-18
Dave Robicheaux is one of those rare characters in today's American detective fiction -- the honest cop with a heart of gold and the toughness to rout the bad guys. In a sense, he is a throwback to the sheriff in the old Westerns. The difference is that Robicheaux's setting is Louisiana, and its peculiar combination rural charm and especially corrupt politics.
You can read this series because you like the Robicheaux character. That would be enough.
Or you can read this series for its wonderful treatment of Louisiana and its people. That would be enough.
As someone who has visited this beautiful state and its interesting people many times, I love reading Burke's descriptions so I am especially drawn to the latter reason.
Luckily, you can read it for both reasons, and that is way more than enough to keep you happily entertained.
One caution: The violence can be pretty stomach churning. If that upsets you, this book is not going to please you.
This story is one of those interesting and rewarding ironies that makes reading fun. The story revolves around Dave's efforts to clear Lester Crown of the murder of a prominent black civil rights attorney 28 years earlier. Crown is hardly someone you'd invite home for Sunday dinner, and this helps to establish Dave's character. Who else would put his family and himself in danger for such a creepy guy?
Lots of people start putting roadblocks and inducements in Dave's way, but that only makes him more determined.
The ending will stay with you for a long time.
The characters ring true throughout, and make you glad you're rooting for Dave! He's our last, best hope. In fact, he's irresistible as a heroic figure. Enjoy!

This book made me giggle from begining to end. Maureen Foss is a great story teller, making me feel I was along for the ride
on this unique cross Canada road trip with a middle aged woman and her eccentric mother. The people and places they encounter
along the way are cleverly described. The mother and daughter team discover many things about each other while travelling.
Very witty and thoughtfully written, I would totally recommend The Caddilac Kind for a good, funny read.

This is certainly not one of those one model type of books that is based mainly on material from the standard press kits.
On the contrary: written by John McCormick, a notable automotive journalist (CAR, Auto Week, Ward's Auto World), this book
tells the complete story about the development of the Evoq prototype from 1999 into the production XLR as introduced in 2003.
The XLR, already shown to the press at a preview at Pebble Beach 2000, was the first of the `Art and Science' style vehicles
for Cadillac and presented a major `break through' for this American marque. Stylish, luxurious and sophisticated with lots
of technical wizardry it received an enthusiastic reception by most of the American as well as the European press. Such a
car, meant to revive the Cadillac brand, is certainly worth a book, and it's a good one. It is well written with excellent
detail and beautiful photographs, on 128 pages of high-quality paper, including short interviews with the major players in
the design, development and production stages of the XLR and these dedicated people are honest and open enough to not hide
the problems and the issues they were facing during this challenging process. But they managed to meet those challenges and
introduce a real beautiful car giving Cadillac a totally new design vocabulary which can carry them through for the next 10
years or more.
Chapters are well spread over Driving (a test drive by Andrew Frankel), Renaissance (the new Brand philosophy), Design (from Evoq to XLR), Engineering (testing at the Nürburgring), Interior (Bulgari and Eucalyptus wood) and Marketing and each of them give lots of detail. I really enjoyed every page of it. It is a valuable addition to anyone's library who is interested in American cars but for Cadillac enthusiasts it's a must! A most welcome tribute to a daring Cadillac design statement.

Again, Roy Schneider proves to be the best chauffeur and guide for a ride through Cadillac's epic history. In this edition,
he takes the reader for the most comprehensive tour of Cadillac in the 40s. In addition to a wealth of information and pictures,
this book takes the reader back to the time, the places, and the people that gave Cadillac its most glorious chapter. In
many parts, this book reads like an exiting novel about the automobiles that defined elegance, luxury, engineering, and power.
