This is a wonderful addition to the Victoria Woodhull literature. Her actual speeches on free love are very readable and will bring people in touch finally with what she meant by free love: what the movement was all about then and now. Again this book is flawed only by the choice of a male critique interspersed between speeches. This person not a great choice as he was quite opbviously never a woman nor destined to think like one. This is a must chick book!!!!

We bought this book to make our own leis. Once you're able to locate inexpensive ribbon (say, on ebay), the cost savings of making your own, personalized leis can be realized. It took us some practice to figure out how to make the leis well. We might sell some on ebay if we get a chance!

It probably says a lot that the author of this book is still in business publishing his newsletter 35 years after this book was published. This book came out at a very interesting time in coin collecting 'history' that is to say that the mid-1970's was a time of near chaotic market conditions in many investor markets what with the Nixon price controls, the Arab oil embargo, Carter Stagflation, decoupling of gold and the dollar, among other things. Needless to say, many things have changed since then (for instance the author includes a long discussion of the coin teletype market). Ironically, though, and a point made and predicted by the author, many things remain the same. This book is directed at coin people who want to make money in an area that they enjoy and are knowledgeable about. In fact, one of the basic tenets of this author's regimen is that one must accrue knowledge, knowledge, knowledge. Knowledge about coin grading, knowledge about coin price history and knowledge about the coin market. What makes this book stand out from any of the other current books out there today is that the author comes to the business from the standpoint of an Investor first, a coin hound second. As such he has developed some rule of thumb risk-reward calculations that one can make before making a buy decision. He also speaks to the psychology of the coin market and explains how and why he has reached his conclusions. He discusses a method for testing coin price movements and demand and describes the market and calender times when buying and selling are statistically strong. He also shares some very interesting insights into coin price relationships within and between coin classes. Finally, he discusses the ways in which buyers and sellers cheat and get cheated and how to avoid the most common pitfalls. I think that money spent on this book is money well-spent and even if, after considering the proposition, you choose to Not become a coin investor you will still gain some valuable information from this book. Information that I am confident will help to pay for this book many, many times over. Four stars only because the internet has allowed some different permutations in the coin market that obviously could not have been discussed by the author. Having said that, so much of the discussion can be applied to today's discussion that this is a minor objection.

Words Robed in Wisdom
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2003-04-16
This book opens the doors on the readers to know about a tenth century Persian poet, philosopher, mystic, thinker and traveller Nasir-i Khusraw (1004-1088). The book shows glimpses of some qualities this individual had in his extra-ordinary life and takes them through the evolution of the philosophical and poetic aspects of his thoughts where words should be robed in wisdom to be weighed for the many layers and depths of meaning it can offer.

The verses selected for this publication underline that Khusraw’s poetry is about wisdom and reason and its supremacy over the soul. What makes his poetry interesting is the connections established, parallels made and analogies drawn about the world, and the ever-changing nature of human life. Schimmel offers selected verses to depict Khusraw’s treatment of different phases of the seasons of the year, the long winter’s agonies and the joys brought by the heralding of spring, of the different stages in one’s life- youth and old age.

Schimmel’s lifelong study of oriental languages and thought allows her to divulge on issues such as Khusraw’s status as a poet and an analysis of the canvass where ideas were developed, his poetic content and contribution to discuss what qualities made Khusraw’s qaseedah [eulogy] different? Whether to any extent, the great Persian poet had any influence of his Arab contemporary Al-Maari. She observes that distinct for his expressions Khusraw, sets his own trends for the Persian poetic tradition.

The recommended Razor Blade Reading & Clue Management is the best advice I have gotten!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-03-19
Recently, I conducted a spring cleaning of my personal library & found a number of interesting business books, which I have totally forgotten about.

This is one of them. I remember I had acquired it at the time I was just moving into general management duing the late 80s.

The most productive learning experience I got out of this book is the understanding & application of one of the action tools recommended by the author: Razor Blade Reading & Clue Management. Till today, this has been an integral part of my life as an knowledge adventurer & technology explorer.

In a nut shell, this action tool entails scanning (before going to bed, in the bathroom, while waiting in line, while traveling) and clipping (with a razor blade!) interested articles from business/industry magazines; & reviewing them periodically (also, exchanging ideas with collegues over drinks) by asking:

- can it affect my business?
- what problem may it create?
- what opportunity may it create?

This action also includes filing the articles in appropriate folders (to create a chronological series of data, information & clues on the particular subject)& reviewing each folder once a month for trends, gaps or revelations.

A final word from the author: Razor Blade Reading is useless unless it leads to a decision & action. This is the final test of the real value of the process.

The author even recommends Razor Blade Reading in the Sky for those busy travelling executives. He cautions: Please remove your address labels, otherwise the airlines may mail them back to you!

Although much of the book may be out of date as it was published prior to the internet era, I strongly feel the remaining action tools e.g. pyramid thinking, directed brainstorming, gap analysis, etc. as recommended by the author are still very relevant in today's context.

We bought this book while vacationing at Cape Cod. Using a question and answer format, the book clearly and simply explains many facts about the ocean and ocean life -- at exactly the right level for kids. Just enough info, not too much.

My five and eight year old kids loved it and so did I.

Woman Who Makes the World Worse: Kate O'Beirne

I saw this book in my library and thought I could potentially accomplish one of two things by making myself read it all the way through: either give an honest shot at hearing what someone on the other end of the argument has to say about the issue, or potentially entertain myself if the book was bad enough.

I ended up being only a little entertained and extremely agitated at how poorly this author makes her arguments and offends her readers by expecting them to accept her "facts" when they're so full of fallacies and missing information that it would take another 200-page book to cite and explain them all.

To start with, I'd say at least half of the statistics and information she uses is from no earlier than the 70's (different kind of country back in those days, lady!). She gives examples that completely contradict her claim of how feminism is unnecessary and "destructive" in some parts of her book (if you're curious, a pretty good one is on page 95). Her lists of what "destructive" actions feminists have done are pointless, since most people would just look through said lists and think, "hmm, I don't think I've EVER thought that awareness of domestic violence was a problem...actually, how are any of these things bad again?" She makes statements that are supposed to be "factual" but in actuality are just opinions that are skewed with half-truths and horrible "cause and effect" logic. The only way anyone could appreciate this book is if they already agreed with her views in the first place, because she doesn't do a good job proving her case otherwise.

I'd say that out of the entire book, if you're looking for logical, sound arguments that are worth considering for the other side's point of view, maybe twelve pages are worth reading. And I don't mean entire pages; more like two or three sentences per page, or something close to that sort.

Utter Nonsense.

Blaming our social ills on the feminist is narrow-minded and stupid. Many of the women sited are based on the extreme perspective and do not have massive followings or have a large impact on the average American woman. Most American women fall somewhere in between hard-core feminist and radical-right zombies. This probably never would occur to the author: "the reason most women are attempting to gain financial security in their own right, is not because they don't want a mother-at-home environment, but rather, many got tired of being 'dumped' by their husbands for someone younger, and/or more beautiful after years of 'family dedication'". And if "being dumped" were the only issue, that in itself is not the real problem as much as divorce usually leaves the woman and children in a state of financial poverty. The government offers little to protect them or their children. Perhaps a country such as ours, where men who do not pay child-support suffer no ill effects on their credit-ratings and many spend a life-time eluding their financial responsibilities, contributes a dramatic portion to the family break-down. Most mothers I know, hate having to leave their children to work, but they do not have a choice, and many others just do not trust the man to be there until death, so why sit around waiting for the shoe to fall, when in the end, poverty is what surely awaits them? So, if anyone is to blame, it's a governmental system that allows men to abandon their responsibilities to their wives and children with little consequences and authors like this one who deter the public attention away from the real issues. It is so much simpler to site a small group and place blame on them, while neglecting the root of the problem and actually having to offer some constructive solutions that may actually work. I suppose if 'selling books' resolves the authors financial issues, it justifies putting other women in a lose/lose situation.

This is a very interesting book. It explains a lot about our society and how it change by women who have an agenda and want to destroy the family, and our society as we know it.

The author goes into interesting details about some of the women's upbringing and past that shed light on why they promote and come up with such angry and vicious ideas towards family and everything that society sees as being worthy.

This book will open your eyes.

I'm sure no intelligent reader of the reviews of this book will regard any of the single-star reviews posted by those who attempted a concerted attack on it. Your single star votes may have helped decrease this book's ratings, but to anyone who's read this book, you've all just revealed your collective idiocy, clearly not even having read the book you dissed. However, that is the typical behaviour of those opposing Kate O'Beirne, and they give all sensible people one more reason to oppose their attempts to block constructive criticism. This book is a fantastic objective analysis of what has become one of western democracy's most pernicious movements, a she-wolf in sheep's clothing which is helping ruin the lives of hundreds of millions of normal men and women with it's blundering ignorance and arrogance. Hats off to Kate O'Beirne for risking all to help spread the truth behind this pseudo-progressive movement, such a sorry remnant of history's once-proud women's movement, which achieved so much for all men and women. Modern feminism spits in the faces of those brave women, and it is imperative that all interested in a positive future for humanity join forces with Kate and, with the aid of knowledge, wisdom and understanding, help to beat down one of the most disturbing forces currently afflicting Western society, one which is ruining our society in the name of doing good. Buy this book ASAP, and check out the single-star reviewers below if you need any further recommendations - their concerted effort, weak as it was, only shows what a nerve the truth can touch. How many offer data that conflicts with Kate's?

While I didn't love the book, it is an incredible effort on kate's part to portray her views on feminism. Anyone who calls this book 'unsupported' clearly did not read it. It is fine to disagree with her, but it is NOT fine to NOT support her right to author this book. What is the problem with raging liberals and dissenting opinion? It seems that they are the fascists when they go to extreme lengths to keep people from reading/hearing people like Kate O'beirne and other conservatives (I'm hip to the 'let's get the 5-star rating to the bottom so that nobody wants to buy this book' effort). It's fine to not support Kate, but by God, support her right to express her views. This is AMERICA!!!

I know a little bit about Kate, and she is so smart, so educated, so successful, and seems to be so lovable as a person....someone a girl can look up to. Young girls need role models like kate o'beirne
