Used Books

Just what I (well, my kids) wanted. Another great story beautifully told. I'll be recommending the book to you-know-who for my neices this Christmas.

This series of books is wonderful. First, they show a photo with a word clue, then a photo of the baby animal with its mother, giving the names for both (i.e. cat-kitten, goldfish-fry, dog-puppy, guinea pig-pup, rabbit-bunny, parrot-baby). Research indicates that photos are better than unrealistic drawings for young children -- this is ideal for that reason. The board book itself is quite durable, and I hope it will withstand a lot of use, because it's already a favorite.

This book, edited by Philip Van Doren Stern, is a dream come true for diehard Thoreauvians (like myself). If you think you know everything about Thoreau's Walden, think again. This book is full of fascinating footnotes that shed light on particular turns of phrase and allusions that one thought one had grasped. The footnotes are particularly illuminating in re turns of phrases that have gone out of style. To learn, for instance, that train wrecks and such were commonly referred to as "melancholy accidents" in the papers of the time, lends an otherwise missing mordant wit to Thoreau's criticism of the railroad when he says that "it will be perceived that a few are riding while the rest are run over-and it will be called, and will be, 'A Melancholy Accident'."-Absolutely delightful! Why is this book out of print with so many purported lovers of Thoreau out there?!?

"Darrel T. Langart" is a pseudodonym (and anagram) of the late Randall Garrett. Considering the popularity of Garrett's "Lord Darcy" stories, someone really ought to reprint this. How do you deal with an alien who has a perfect memory, and therefore can never "unlearn" something he already knows -- who knows that humans are inferior? The solution is, of course, obvious ...

This book is generally considered the best all-round artillery reference.
It's especially valuable to scratch-builders of 18th century and
earlier sailing ship models, for its accurate info on cannons of the
various periods. I've had a copy since 1976, and wouldn't be without it!

Ones again Ana Jarvis did it, great context and wonderful topics that actually helps the teacher no matter what kind of level you are just magnifico period.

This text book is in really good shape. I saved $80.00 over the school bookstore price of a used book. I received it within a week of placing the order.

The handbook of commonly used American Idioms, is really quiet exciting if you're a linguist, writer, author, speaker, or student writing a term paper. I've found it to be one of the handiest resources since my college hand held Webster Dictionary.

IT IS A VERY SPECIAL COMPACT BOOK...i.e., Cool!
What makes it even more special is it's compact size. In a world where you've got an iPod, digital recorder, CD player, digital camera, cell phone or pager to carry you really don't need another item to try to slide into one of the pockest on your coat or your petite clutch purse.

COULD BE MORE READER FRIENDLY...
The books in alphabetical order with two rows of definitions per page. The layout is fine but a space between the definition of each word and the new word could be enhanced to make it reader friendly. What they have done is bolded each word so that you can see the beginning of each new on coming word.

WHAT I LOVED ABOUT IT FROM A MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKING STAND POINT...Was all of the phrases for the way we can say something and make it more colorful and visually vibrant. Painting word pictures in this day and age of little bitty Sound Bytes really becomes neat. The only problem is that most people are very unfamiliar with all of the idioms of Americans less alone all of the idioms that are floating around from the whole world. Maybe I should rephrase that :) . Well if you need your memory inspired for ways to communicate something new, differently or exciting just pick up American Idioms and you're onto something. Thanks.

This is the best book for the beginning electrical engineer or an embedded programmer trying to understand what is going on.It is clearly written and covers all of they important aspects. It is better than a book I recently paid for on this subject.
