I like the idea of the CD's but I drive 1 hour each direction to work and I was looking for about a 20 minute Bible lesson. This is not it. The lessons are only 3 minutes. I am sure my friends who drive 5 to 10 minutes would love it but it is not what I was anticipating.

Natural Gas & Electric Power in Nontechnical Language (Pennwell Nontechnical Series)

Good Introduction to Natural Gas and Power Generation
Helpful Votes: 18 out of 20 total.
Review Date: 2000-07-01
Chambers covers a lot of material in enough detail to promote an understanding of the broad issues involved in natural gas and its relation to an increasingly deregulated electric power market -- but not in so much detail that a reader new to the subject will be lost and confused. Certain topics are treated a bit too roughly, a good example being the discussion of deregulation, which skims the surface of the government's complicity in impeding the NG industry's progress and doesn't frame the issues as clearly as it could. The book's editing is not the best; there are spelling and grammar errors, and some of the graphics are unclear. Chambers' writing, however, is generally concise and lucid, and her topics are on target. The glossary is helpful. Altogether a book that does what it seems intended to do. Now, if Pennwell could just sharpen the editing and bring the price down a bit. . .

Marginally acceptable for non-technical people, else, poor.

Ms. Chambers, the author, was at Pennwell Publishing (natural gas & power industry publisher) at the time of this book's publication. By formal training, she's a journalist.

This book, as I read it, appeared to me to be a mosiac of just snippets and facts that may have been accreted over her publishing career, with perhaps, a most limited appreciation, true feel and understanding of the natural gas and power industry. Translation: not that there has to be a "passion" about this, or any industry, but if she does harbor one, as a genuine interest and concern, regrettably, it did not come across in this book.

My interpretation is as an engineer. But still, and even without such a degree of discerning scrutiny, the author could
have been provided much better checks to copy before it was published. The book's flow is somewhat checkered: It could have been assembled much better with both logic, how it all fits together, full comprehensive scope, and not least - data and charts given. When we look at graphs without telling us what the vertical axis is (no units, but dimensionless numbers of what?), what are we looking at?

For the non-techie, you may get something out of this book. For those that are really not that right-hemisphere and like specifics, keep away; you'll end up somewhat dizzy.

Shame, I expected lots more and it's still a very rich subject area/topic for the right work to pull it all together.

Not totally accurate, could have caused some major problems.

The book does not have totally accurate information. example: a Cessna Citation 550 nose gear can only be turned up to 90 degrees. In the book they wrote it can be turned 360 degrees. With new Linemen using this book as a reference it could have cause a broken nose gear.

This has a lot of helpful information if your car has a carburetor. It has some good information on some earlier fuel injection systems. For the most part it is outdated, but if you have an older vehicle this book is great. It inludes many detailed diagrams that are pretty helpful. All in all if your vehicle is over fifteen years old this book would be great for minor repairs and overall information on your vehicle.

I've been very negatively surprised to discover that all figures (included vectors, contours and 3D isosurfaces) are in grey scale!
Colors in CFD results visualization are necessary to read correctly an image! In fact on the most of the grey images it's impossibile to understand where are located values of any physical property reported. I paid this book 170 dollars: I would be much more happy to pay even 50 additional dollars to receive a book with colors where they're necessary!!
It is the only existing book that fills the gap between CFD and combustion books and it is a very well written book. It starts describing CFD and CFD models for combustion and some basics of combustion and then presents some CFD case studies in different areas of combustion engineering like in steel, aluminium, glass, petrochemical industry, gas turbines.
Recommended to CFD analists and engineers (experienced or beginners) that are interested in combustion modelling.

A Good Book on Checklist Compliance; A Better One Needed
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2001-09-10
Thomas P. Turner's volume on "Checklists & Compliance" is a good and worthwhile effort. As part of McGraw Hill's new series on "Controlling Pilot Error", edited by Col. Tony Kern, it focuses on a critical and under-explored area of pilot shortcomings that is exceptionally relevant to all pilots - airline, military and general aviation alike.

The book is largely a compilation of ASRS and NTSB reports that should prove eye-opening to any aviator who does not as a matter of course access these resources. We can all profit from reviewing these items.

Unfortunately, the book only scratches the surface in deriving lessons learned and developing recommended practices based on the reviewed incidents. In particular, it fails to offer any insight into the intricacies of checklist design or specific techniques for use.

There is no mis-information in this book; a pilot can only benefit from reading it. But we still await an exceptional book on checklist design, application, discipline and implementation.

The stories are OK, but not great. I think these characters would make great cartoons, but there is something weird about them that I have not isolated yet - possibly a UK child psychology consultant with different views than me!?!.

I am a native Californian, and I know that Linda Dennis is also from California, but she went way overboard with arcane UK English and slamming the other teams - there are a number of subtle F1 political jabs ala Rocky and Bullwinkle. Maybe this is what kids want, but we are not a Disney based family.

These stories do not keep my 2 year old's interest so far, and even the pictures of the cars arguing and the cars stuck in goo made him say "No like that ..." and "Car fall down ...". These books will go on the shelf for a few years and we will readdress them then.

For the time being, we'll return to normalcy with `Duck on a Bike', the `Runaway Ralph' series, `The Rainbow Fish' and Jay Jay the Jetplane videos.

This is a 37 page manual showing details of the Bosch K-Jetronic Gasoline FI system. It includes operation, components, and wiring diagrams and photos. It is specific to the title system, but this is the most widely used gasoline FI system in the world. A little pricey at $11.95 US, which is 80 of my dollars.

Helpful Votes: 11 out of 12 total.

The book has some very good information and some of the infomation does pertain to the field, but when you have to read the book,I find the book vague in the sense of excessive wordiness and when the book refers to a picture you have to flip through 20 pages to examine what he is saying and when you go back to reading where you left off you cannot follow what point he is trying to make.
