This book covers the Ford Mustang up through model year 1994. It has chapters dedicated to Mustang prototypes and toys and models, in addition to Ford Mustangs and Shelby Mustangs. Also includes a chapter on buying a vintage Mustang, and a chapter on Mustang advertising. A well rounded book with lots of pictures.

TWO THUMBS UP TO HITCH A RIDE WITH SIMON

Review Date: 2003-11-14
One part Homer, one part Salinger and a huge three parts that can only be labeled "Yansky," this coming of age Odyssey features a cast of misfits who are both endearing and enlightening. On the brink of manhood, the adopted Simon sets out on a journey to find his birth parents. Like Odysseus, he meets his obstacles with courage. Like Holden, he retains a healthy irreverence for all things fake. But in his quest for that which will bring meaning to his life, young Simon has something neither Salinger's nor Homer's hero had: the King of Rock and Roll in the car with him.
Yansky has a rare talent for transforming restaurants, motels and highways into mythic structures. Funny, poignant, and satisfying as a young adult road trip, this novel should have teens saying, "Yeah, this author really gets me." Those of us a little past the YA age can read (and reread) and remember when we were at that age when the rapid unfolding of life's mysteries was as exciting and scary as putting the pedal down on an open interstate.

Being an avid reader of young adult literature, I am always on the look out for the next best thing. Brian Yansky's gem-of-a-novel fits the bill perfectly. Holden Caulfield meets Jack Kerouac for a truly entertaining and enlightening ride. If wands and wizards have left you all muggled out, if you are looking for something truly "precious" then I suggest you dive into MY ROAD TRIP TO THE PRETTY GIRL CAPITAL OF THE WORLD. Not only will you fall in love with the honesty of the characters and the simplicity of the tale, you will walk away demanding a sequel.

This is without a doubt one of the most completely compelling books about auto racing that I have ever read. The author manages to expertly blend the human side of families in the racing world, with the excitement of the sport. The book reads so smoothly, I keep thinking I saw a movie. If you're into the NASCAR scene, you must read this book.

Two years ago when I started following the motor sport NASCAR, I purchased this book to give me the history and background that i needed to be able to understand the roots and expansion of what we now see on modern racetracks.
It was reading about the France family that I learned the deep roots about the evolution from beach racing to the building of the Daytona track.
I highly recommend this book as one to own and to read to enlighten you about the sport of racing stock cars if you go to races. As a woman, I must tell you girls to read this to learn why it is so popular with men.

I have a standing order to have sent to me every book Tim Miller writes. But after reading this book I don't think this dude is the same man who wrote SHIRTS AND SKINS and other gay performance scripts. This book is a good one too, and I read it through from cover to cover, pausing to admire the many mint photographs. The book is lavishly illustrated with a lot of wire photos and close ups of important moments in stock car history. They have access to computer databases and can thus list the exact dollar amount won by their profiled drivers through all of recorded history (extra money is earned, of course, through private endorsements and these do not appear in the "career earnings")
Tim Miller and Steve Milton do a great job outlining the history of NASCAR and how it grew from a tiny, low class racing circuit to the largest business in the world today. The cover says it all, three top drivers covered from head to waist with advertising logos of all kinds of companies. Bud, Champion, Home Depot, it's a sport in which men dress up as billboards then climb into cars with even more ads on them. On every page is an ad, but that's just part of the colorful history of NASCAR. Milton and Miller go into the way NASCAR used to have competitors, but they have since squashed all competition by the power of branding. Thus such famous drivers of the past as Mario Andretti and AJ Foyt didn't really align themselves with NASCAR at all, though you can bet your bottom dollar they'd do so today. In the past, Richard Petty held up the NASCAR tradition and singlehandedly made Americans aware of NASCAR as a reputable outfit. One section of NASCAR NOW profiles the up and coming drivers of tomorrow--the Dale Earnhardts of the future. LOL, it will be greart sport to keep this book around a few years and see how accurate Milton and Miller are at predicting who will be on top in, say, the year 2005 or 2010. For all we know, the great driver of the next generation is someone whose name we have not yet heard.
Another cool section profiles the NASCAR masters of the past thirty years. Those were the days befor NEXTEL took over and instead the tobacco industry controlled the advertising, so the big prize was called the WINSTON CUP. Miller and Milton are sympathetic sportswriters and each has a flair for the winning phrase. Of Kyle Petty, they write, "Petty. the name resonates around stock car tracks like thunder through a canyon." Everyone loves a winner and this book has 'em on every page, and the photography is outstanding. Check out the fish eye lens that makes Sterling Marlin's 2003 Michigan entry look like a spaceship from way out in the Milky Way.

For the first time, all of the automobiles in the Jack Nethercutt Collection are pictured in one book! This book exhibits all the characteristics a book on automobiles should have. Using it's horizontal format to great advantage, photographer Dennis Adler displays all of the cars in all their glory. Mr. Adler understands his subjects and each photograph shows exactly what the viewer would wish to see. The text is short, concise, and highly accurate. Due to space limitations, there is little technical data. This is not missed. Also touched upon, are the Nethercutts' collection of mechanical musical instruments-- pianos and automotive mascots. This book has my highest recommendation and exhibits better photography and more taste than some books costing many times over.

From the earliest to the newest and all points in between. Cars from America as well as cars from overseas. Probably every known car and car maker are in this book. Packed full of information so much that it seems almost impossible to believe that their is so many cars that have been built throughout this span of time. Could be more detailed however on certain cars such as the Cobra Jet Mustang, or others, but all in all very immense in facts and scaled to such a wide variety of cars that it doesn't leave many out if any at all.

Having spent much of my life in the Pennsylvania/New York region, I was delighted to find that this book contained most of the sights that I have come to love, as well as a large number that I was not familiar with. It is a "Blue Highways" (i.e., off the Interstate) type of guide, and is fun to read. Highly recommended for anyone planning a vacation in this region.
The National Geographic Driving Guides are by different authors and due to weak editing and selection, vary widely in quality. This one and the one for Texas and the Middle South are excellent. The California guide by Jerry Camarillo Dunn is awful. The Florida one falls somewhere in the middle. I have not read the others yet.

I found this book to be invaluable in planning our vacation in these three states. The book gave us suggestions of routes to take with time estimations included. Places of interest were rated allowing the traveler to make maximum use of his/her time. I have since purchased others in the series and will continue to recommend these guides to friends.
