Let us not split hairs, Mr. Rowlinson writes as if he was David Coulthard's hairdresser - he has the inside info, he has the gossip, he takes us into all the permutations the intricate world of F1 holds. He keeps abreast of Coulthard's career, the ups, downs, his first Pole and his early exits, no holes barred. You need not be a Coulthard fan - if you like the thrust of F1, this book will put curls in your hair.

Thank you Ms. Sanders!

This book is great! It helps with out of town guests... I have one sitting on my coffee table and even the neighbors have picked it up for advice on where to go.

Now, whenever I have out of town guests comming, I send them a copy so they can plan their trips. You can only do so much of the touristy thing you know!

This book is also great for creating new and different things to do. Just pack a lunch, hop on the motorcycle and GO! Buy this book.

A must-have for all San Diegans!!

I have been in San Diego for a long time now, and I thought I knew about all of the tourist and not-so-tourist attractions around... This book has opened up my eyes to many great things to do and places to visit on my weekends... things I think only a native San Diegan would know about. This book is very informative, easy to use, and has readable maps, pics, etc. This is certainly the book to buy if you are looking for a creative spark on your weekends - whether you are visiting or here to stay.

A Must Have Book

If you are a Cobra nut, a '60's sports car nut, or just an automotive history fan, you MUST have this book.

It is written by, and most of the photos in this book were taken by, Pete Brock, the designer and "father" of the Daytona Coupe. If nothing else, the book is fascinating and enthralling, packed with detail and never before released documented facts. You will not be able to put it down. When I first received mine, (it sold for $100.00 a copy when first released), I soon discovered by turning it's pages how cheaply I "stole" this book for. I would have paid five times that to get one, if necessary !!! Years later, I am still enthralled by the detailed and superb written detail and photos in this book.

It comes in hardcover in a large format and has hundreds of never before released historic pictures of the Cobra Daytona Coupe, during it's development and relatively short, but extremely impressive racing career. Many of the photos are color and they were obviously taken with high quality camera gear in almost a photo-journalist manner. It is like LIFE magazine photographers followed this car, intent on documenting it's history and significance, because they had a sixth sense as to the legacy the car would leave behind. How fortunate for us all they did !!!

The book comes with a well deserved thick hard cover sleeve to protect it and this adds to its prestigious look. I carefully slide my copy out often and revisit it's lush contents often. It is like engaging in the most enjoyable activity over and over again and never tiring of doing so.

Fortunately, I purchased this book years ago when it was still available. It soon was sold out and disappeared from the radar screen. Who knows if it will return, (I unselfishly hope it does due to the numbers of people who could purchase this book and forever be thankful they had the opportunity to do so).

The car was a mere flash on the auto racing landscape, but it's development and immediate success on the race track is still almost an unbelieveable fairytale-like story.

Few of these cars were made, and a very few survive today and are worth several millions of dollars - if, that is their owners would even consider selling them !! Carrol Shelby himself gets offers in the stratosphere all the time for the one Daytona Coupe he still possesses.

I could go on and on about this book, but I will conclude with stating that - regardless of price or condition - if you are a Cobra nut or owner, (even of a kit car replica Cobra), you will be forever unfulfilled if you do not procure this book.

It is that good !!! Period !!!

Wonderful book on American racing histroy

This outstanding and very detailed history provides a deep insight not only into the Cobra Daytona but gives an inside look into endurance racing and Shelby American during this period of time. Mr. Brock, who was a Shelby American employee and confidant to Mr. Shelby, brings together a huge amount of information into a coherent and well-organized volume.
Using an enormous number of sources, the book provides insight into the engineering and design of this very fascinating car. Photographs of all of the Daytona coupes during various stages of their construction and evolution are presented along with technical, historical, and anecdotal information. A race by race history is provided, along with ownership history of each car, and insight into the workings of a professional racing team and their relationship with Ford Motor Company.
This volume is so detailed that the casual reader may be tempted to bypass some portions of the book, however, this will be to his or her loss, as even the reader only peripherally interested in Mr. Shelby and his cars will find the narrative and photos to be seductively fascinating.
I highly recommend this volume to all persons who have a professional or personal interest in auto racing during the 1960's.

A little more than 50 years ago, Philip Egan, a young design engineer, had the opportunity to be part of Preston Tucker's dream. As a junior member of the New York based Lippincott team which helped design the prototype car, Egan took very careful notes of his first exposure to a full scale automotive design probject.

Where other books have focused on the drama of the human triumph and tragedy, Egan's focus is the car. However, the appeal of Design and Destiny reaches far beyond those interested only in the Tucker. The basic principles of automotive design are well illustrated. For those interested in creativity, the book provides valuable insight. Though other books and countles articles have been published on the Tucker saga, I believe Design and Destiny is something very special

As a Traffic Safety Specialist, this book is a MUST, this old book needs to be mandatory reading for any person interested in Road Safety, Ralph documented the resistance of car companies to the introduction of safety features, like safety belts, that looks timely today, for example with the lobby that produce a delay in the mandatory fitting of air bags. Also you will learn how the primitive road safety components, still used in USA, called the three E's (Engineering, Enforcement, Education ) was born as a device to direct the efforts to the community away from the real problems of safety of the vehicles, some of the that was sell with tires that don't resist the weight of the fully loaded vehicle !.

Finally you can understand the lacking level of road safety in US versus European countries that have in service safety policies that will reduce the absolute number of killed by 30% over 5 years.

This book is the necessary building stone to the effort to make car manufacturers accountable for the safety level of his products.

Nader hit the nail right on the head with this book, exposing engineering problems in what was supposed to be a major new automobile. His research and writing are impeccable, and led to the demise of this dangerous machine. We are still fighting this battle, though, and probably always will, as long as thereis profit to be made in the auto industry, and as long as the American public places such a high value on trophy cars.

I was given this book by a friend and didn't know what to expect... but all sorts of happy memories fooded back as I flipped through the pages. Ragan clearly loves his subject, but he's a added a quirky tone that makes this fun not just for collectors but also for people like me who just remember playing with some of these toys. It's also worth noting that the photographs are fantastic.

It'll Christmas gift list for sure.

What a great time I had with this book! Every page, and every photo, brought back memories of these cars. It's a really nicely produced volume (I already bought a copy for a friend who's rich enough to collect real cars!) and if you leave it out on a coffee table, say, everybody reaches for it and, as they leaf through it, they invariably start to smile. Now I'm just sorry I gave away (or maybe my parents did) all my own toys from the 60s!

Twenty-one-year-old Maggie Peyton has just graduated college, and is about to start a high-ranking, behind-the-scenes job at ESPN in the Big Apple. But first she must survive a month-long stint in her hometown of Riverside, California, where she is sure she will spend her time skateboarding. Oh yeah, and looking for a job that will cover her new apartment's first and last rent payments. However, when her father takes her to a used car lot, she is quickly drawn to Herbie, a white, '63 Love Bug that could use a bit of a paint job, as well as some other work under the hood. Which is how Maggie ends up getting involved with her best friend from high school, Kevin, who intends on fixing up Herbie, free of charge. The only catch is that Herbie has a complete mind of his own, and a heart for racing, which is how he and Maggie, along with Kevin, get mixed up with Trip Murphy, a professional racecar driver who bugs Herbie just as much as Maggie. Now the little car has decided that he's going to beat Trip in a race that Maggie's not even sure she wants to participate in. But when Herbie's driving, she has no choice.

I adore the past HERBIE movies, so hearing about the newest release HERBIE FULLY LOADED starring Lindsay Lohan, I knew that the film would capture my heart instantly. However, waiting is not one of my virtues, so when I saw the HERBIE FULLY LOADED novelization recently, I had to pick-it up. Irene Trimble has done a fabulous job of bringing the movie to life with this novelization. The characters are quirky and fun, and Herbie is completely adorable. While it is obvious from the movie trailers that the novelization cut parts of the movie out, it features enough to tide over any HERBIE fan until the movie is released to theaters. Overall, this is a must have novelization for HERBIE or Lindsay Lohan fans. You won't be disappointed!

I absolutely LOVE Dodge Darts and their Plymouth Valiant sisters. The high performance beautiful, streamlined 6-cylinder Chrysler has certainly earned its place in the hearts of classic car and Chrysler lovers.

This book does a big service to Dart afficionadoes; readers will be treated to some really cool pictures of some very serious cars. The Darts and Valiants set new standards and certainly raised the bar in automotive production. It is also a real treat for people who like muscle cars. The Dodge Dart and Plymouth Valiant, famous for their slant 6 engine have earned their rightful place on the road, in our collective hearts and among those cars used as high performance muscle cars.

This book captures the fun, adventure, silliness, and spontaneity of a family drive. Outside every major city, throughout the country--and I mean today, not "yesteryear"--there are so many riches to be explored! This book captures them. And kids love such outings into the natural world: woods, streams, small towns, farm animals, funky vernacular buildings and stores. Young or old, you'll be swept along in the poetry of this book, along the winding roads...
A lovely read-aloud, that also welcomes older readers who will find themselves thinking of their own landscapes.
Love the illustrations. Burckhardt's images remind me of banners from state fairs--they're timeless and innocent and beautiful.

I learned the hard way there's a difference between rustic and rural. I lived for a blissful 18 months on the edge of Pennsylvania's Amish country, as hilly and bucolic as an Andrew Wyeth landscape, peopled by artisans, Quakers, and that quaint throwback, the gentleman farmer.

A move to central Florida revealed the sparse reality for most of rural America -- endless, flat vistas dotted with factory farms, rusting double-wides and the ubiquitous Wal-Mart, a purgatory of sameness and palpable despondence.

Fortunately, Rosen's jaunt takes us to that first America, still found in states as varied as New Hampshire or North Carolina, where swift changes in landscape and pace make for a true escape.

Rosen has crafted a travelogue narrated by a kid, and it's a joyful Sunday drive to nowhere in particular, and everyplace special. Rosen's gift for language could elevate a fortune cookie to the sublime, and what could've been merely a chattery boy in a car becomes at times a prose poem, rich with imagery and wordplay.

Rosen's one of those rare authors who can write convincingly with a kids' voice, remaining true to the inconsistencies and verbal shortcuts kids take without sounding cutesy.

Nor do we get shortchanged by the story itself; it's a sophisticated piece of description as we wind through the country, stopping along the way, getting acquainted with the boy's family and surroundings, but not once does he stretch our belief in the loquacious narrator.

Burckhardt's illustrations are crackled acrylics done on boards, and look like antique shop signs you might buy at an antique stand by the side of a country road.

This book will pay for itself by helping to get a good deal on a used car or, perhaps more importantly, avoid a bad deal. The author does an excellent job speaking in layman's language helping us understand the used car market. He provides lots of questions I hadn't thought of and includes sources to gain information. I especially appreciate the thorough list of things to check before a used car is purchased. This information will save our family significant money!

Kyle Busch is a man who is 41 years old and lives in Erie Pa, He is a teacher and counsiler and wrote a great book called "Drive For The Best Price: How to Buy a Used Automobile, Sport-Utility Vehicle, or Minivan and Save Money" This is a great book which can help any person of any age buy a good vehicle for there needs and price they are willing to pay. This book is great for people who don't know much about cars and are wanting to get a good used car for a reasonable amount of money. I would recomend this book to any body who is wanting a new used car. Also I believe that this writer did a great job on this book. He was able to give my parents great tips on being able to save some money on a used car that my father bought last week. My dad saved $7,500 on his car and would not know what he would have done without this great help guide for cars.
