My six year old son and I have been friends with Stink Moody from the beginning with Stink: The Incredible, Shrinking Kid. My son relates so well to Stink's emotions, schemes, and imaginition. Since he and Stink also share the honor of having a sometimes moody, older sister, my son knows Stink's life is not so different from his own. We are both eagerly awaiting Stink's next adventure!

My 8 year old daughter devours the Judy Moody and Stink books. Megan MacDonald cannot write them fast enough. These are excellent readers for those who are reading independently but may be hindered by smaller typeface. The books read quickly ( good for kids bad for moms who have to wait for the next book to come out). My daughter also thinks the books are hysterical. I always catch her laughing out loud in her room. Mrs. MacDonald has captured the attention of the younger reader with exciting and humorous text that kids can identify with while maintaining the the innocence of this age group! Two thumbs up! Highly reccomended.

Amazing Photographs and Interesting Stories

Review Date: 2000-12-06
The first thing the reader will see upon opening this book is the amazing photographs taken by Kinrade. But a closer inspection lets you know that this is much more than just a picture book. Each subject's story is extremely well written and insightful and shows how many people are involved in making Winston Cup racing the success that it is today. Evidence of how well the subjects were chosen is shown by the array of drivers profiled in the book. The author chose a retired superstar (Richard Petty), a seasoned veteran (Bill Elliott), an up-and-coming star (Bobby Labonte) and a rookie (Buckshot Jones) to show the differences among drivers in various states of their careers. But the driver profiles aren't even the most interesting stories in the book. Very few people understand the complexity of preparing for an event as large as a Winston Cup race and the author shows this well with the other profiles in the book. Someone has to be responsible for the ticketing of more than 100,000 spectators attending an event and the profile on Frances Goss shows just how this is accomplished. Myra Falkenbury's story shows just how tough it is to supply credentials to the 12,000-14,000 additional media, sponsors and workers attending an event. One of the more interesting stories is that of David Carmichael, who has created a place for himself in the world of Winston Cup racing by cleaning the wheels of haulers and motorhomes in the Winston Cup garage. Each of the more than 30 profiles digs deep into the jobs and personal lives of people that you may or may not have even known were involved in making the Winston Cup Series such a success. This book is a must have for the novice and the long-time Winston Cup fan.

I have always been a fan of Subarus and this book is the most extensive thing I have found about its history. If you don't own a Subaru, you will after reading this book. There are many pictures showing the different models. I think there might be EVERY brochure ever released from FHI(for the impreza). Although, there is some technical info, I wouldn't rely on this book to help you take apart your car. GREAT BOOK!!!

Great read.

Shortly after buying a WRX I received this book from my girlfriend. I read it all the time. Great pictures and technical information as well as Subaru's rally history with updates on standings and drivers by year. This book is a great addition if you are a Subie nut or just love to know everything possible about the Impreza series. While it's true this book won't help you take apart or assemble your Subaru it will give you a tremendous amount of detailed information about the cars roots.

What kind of ignorant redneck jackass wrote the editorial review for this book on Amazon.com? Rice rocket? Talk about a condescending ignorant rascist remark. The entire editoral review is worthless. It appears to be written by some out-of-touch 40+ who wouldn't know what to do with a Subaru if he had one, much less has any actual knowledge of them. Sorry you have nothing intelligent to say about superior Japanese engineering.

Aside from the ignorant 'rice rocket' comment in the review, everyone besides the editor knows that all Subaru's are powered by boxer engines and always have been. Also, AWD is not the same as 4WD.

The book is worth the purchase price, but the editorial review on Amazon is nothing but worthless drivel.

The Audi 100, 200 Official Factory Repair Manual 1989, 1990, 1991 is the most comprehensive repair manual offered for the Audi. As many Audi owners know, Chilton nor Haynes does not offer a repair manual for the 100 or 200. However, this manual covers every repair and maintanance detail in an easy to read and navigate manual. This IS the manual used by Audi Dealer Service Centers. It is a must-have for owners of the 100 or 200 who prefer to repair thier own automobiles.

This book is a must-have for Audi 100 or 200 owners. If you would like to work on this car yourself, I highly recommend buying this book even before you pop the hood. The exploded views of parts and detailed information provided in this book makes it a godsend to those of us who are brave enough to fix these beasts!

If you own the car, you should own this manual. For those of you who own these cars, and need service, you will be much better prepared for dealing with a mechanic. Fluids specs, full description of features, and service recommendations are included. For those of you who will work on their own car, you will find the "german method" the only method for completing the work. An absolute godsend when installing stereos, etc, as the each of the approximately 2 billion VW/AUDI clip styles are covered (okay, I exaggerated)These manuals are derived from the manuals supplied to the dealers. Worth every cent.

Lays out the woes of the modern auto industry, and gives possible solutions
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-10
In Time for a Model Change, two industry veterans tell why the modern auto industry is in such sad shape. As the globe warms and oil is burned up, we need innovative cars that push the envelope with new technologies, such as plug-in hybrids and electrics.

Yet the carmakers struggle to stay afloat, with no money to spend on such a drastic model change. And no strategic plan to follow even if they had the money. So instead of innovation, we get a steady proliferation of the same old models, with minor variations, all of the carmakers putting out their "me too" offerings that drive up expenses, drive down sale prices, and drive the carmakers out of business.

Time for a Model Change suggests a solution. Unbundle the production of cars. Let the carmakers build to their strengths. Italian carmakers, for example, should not try to compete with their own vertically integrated line of cars. Instead, focus on car bodies, doing the styling that they can do better than others. And so on.

Reflecting their connection with The Economist magazine, the authors of Time for a Model Change make their case thoughtfully and carefully. The many graphs, diagrams, and pictures (black and white only) throughout the book add a great deal to a reader's understanding of the industry. This book, though quite sophisticated in its analysis, will not be too difficult for the general reader.

My only complaint about the book, if I even call it that, is the feeling of doom and gloom that pervades it. Things are not that bad. But there is no question that the "industry of industries" will be changing, one way or another. As related technologies continue to improve, someone is going to figure out how to make money in this huge industry.

An Industry With a Difficult Future

This is an analysis of the world wide automobile industry by a pair of close observers who are outside the direct employment of the auto makers.

The auto industry is huge, it's been developing for a hundred. In addition there is a huge supplementary industry in the form of supplying oil, building highways, insuring, repairing, racing, and hundreds of other professions.

The problems forseen by the authors seem so obvious that you wonder why the automoile companies don't see it. Of course they probably do, but their senior management couldn't say anything that might affect their stock prices. If they did, they would get sued by everyone who lost money on their stock.

This is an excellent book on the automotive industry and in effect on our whole economy.

Remember when you used to wonder what all those buttons did in your parents' car? The choke on our old station wagon would make wings pop out, my dad said. Ha! It was no match for the Tooth-Gnasher Superflash. That car does it all! Wow. Zoom. Cool. Read it again, Daddy. Of course.

Early Pinkwater One of His Best

Review Date: 2004-12-01
First published in 1981, the "Tooth-Gnasher Superflash" has all the ingredients that go into a "Pinkwater." These include silly sounding names such as "Mr. Popsnorkle" (other books include a "Mr. Plumbean" and "Mr. and Mrs. Submarine"); unusual visuals (Popsnorkle floats sideways over his worn out Thunderclap-Eight); improbable situations, exemplified here by the Popsnorkle-driven Superflash turning into a turtle, a dinosaur, and a flying chicken; and, most famously, Pinkwater's signature dry, subtle-yet-silly humor:

"'Look!' shouted the five little Popsnorkles.'The Tooth Gnasher Superflash!'" (NOTE: We see a picture of the Popsnorkles and a salesman wearing an orange suit standing next to a light blue racing vehicle.)

"'It is a pretty color,' said Mrs. Popsnorkle. (It was light blue)."

"'May I show you the new Tooth-Gnasher Superflash? We only have one left.'"

"'Is it the light-blue one?' Mrs. Popsnorkle asked."

That interchange may go right past some little ones' heads, but like the best kids' humor, it can be appreciated at many levels (think "Bullwinkle"). As mentioned above, when Popsnorkle takes the wheel and starts pressing buttons, the Tooth Gnasher Superflash transforms itself into a series of impossible (and sometimes extinct) animals. The exuberance of the Popsnorkles combined with the increasingly fearful face of the salesman in the back seat create a farcical scene made even more spectacular by the Superflash's many forms (though it always remains a nice light blue, even when it looks like a big elephant).

The very perplexed salesman takes "lots of money," and the Popsnorkles drive off in the Tooth-Gnasher. The last paragraph does not disappoint, as Pinkwater manages to inject yet another surprise in this creative, silly, and fun book. Highly recommended for almost anyone that can appreciate the Pinkwaterian style; this book may very well make a fan out of you! As there are several books by Daniel Pinkwater (some of the later ones beautifully, whimsically illustrated by his spouse, Jill Pinkwater), you'll be in for a treat.

Total Performers: Ford Drag Racing In The 1960s by journalist and dedicated racing fan Charles Morris clearly documents the decade of the 60s as one packed with exciting cars, thrilling races, and substantial factory participation in the development of drag racing vehicles and technologies. Enhanced with 130 full color and 390 black/white photographs, Total Performers wonderfully showcases drag strip racing breakthroughs in automotive performance that included Ford's FE-series engine, the Police Interceptor, GT 390, Single Overhead Cam, Cobra Jet, Boss 429, and more. My 10 yr. old son brought this book home from the library and loved it. The graphics are second to none and the labels and short captioned boxes of text encouraged him to read several excerpts. The broad range of equipment covered is intriguing even to an adult. It is educational for the young reader to identify vehicles they've read about in school but never visualized. This book will be under our Christmas tree AND under the tree of a nephew who loves figuring out how things work!

If you are interested in racing (and BMWs in particular), I very much recommend this book.

A Must-Own for any BMW racing enthusiast!

Taking into account the difficult task of giving fair representation to BMW's extensive motor racing history, this text serves as the definitive tome on BMW's racing exploits. For the most part it covers BMW's sedan racing from the 60's to 80's, with a smattering of formula car history thrown in, too. The text describes the overall racing history and details quite extensively the technical aspects of the various cars. This is augmented by a fantastic collection of photos of racecars, homologated streetcars, and technical drawings. While it isn't cheap (even on Amazon) it's well worth it.
