Would have given this five stars, but the one piece of Z history I was really looking for (1978 280Z - Black Pearl Limited Edition) was completely skipped over. Other than that - there is plenty of good reading!

Very good overview of the "Z" from concept to current production. As the original owner of a 1971 Datsun 240Z, I especially enjoyed the detailed section on the factory program of buying early 240Z cars for restoration and resale throough dealerships during a lapse in "Z" production. Highly recommend this book to those who find the "Z" an object of automotive interest.

Great book for any Z fan

All years and models covered well and includes factory and racing cars. The largest fan base is probably for Z-32s and they will find roughly 1/4 of the content focused on these years.

This is a book sure to delight any Ford lover and especially anyone who loves classic Fords. The photographs are a major bonus. Readers get treated to some really cool pictures of some really serious cars, e.g. Ford Falcons and soaring Thunderbirds.

I like the way the equipment and number of automobiles manufactured is included. I also really liked some of the classic photographs, such as a beautiful 1961 Ford Falcon in a showroom and sale pictures as well. This is a comprehensive, well researched book that certainly lives up to the classic Ford slogan, "Drive a Ford! It's a Better Idea!"

This book has to be one of the best titles in the Crestline series! Endless pictures and information make this book hard to put down. You cannot look thru this book without learning something you did not know about Ford. I am not sure but it seems as though there is a picture of almost every Ford ever made. You will not be disappointed with this title.

This is one of the specialised book in the topic of duct acoustics. It is unfortunate that it is out of print. In fact this is a must for those specialising in the subject of flow acoustics. I wish that it should get republished.

Excellent book for acousticians involved in exhaust systems

Ever since I got this wonderful book, my restoration of WW II jeeps has got a definite direction. I have been able to master the various differences between the MBs and GPWs. The wiring is made perfect. The quest for 'F' marks has increased(I have found many more such marks than those listed on page 139.The 'Jeep Straps', 'Seal patterns','Marking of Vehicles' and the 'General use,Standardized Parts' are only found in this book. As a restorer, owning 23 low bonnet jeeps, I seem to be commanding a fairly good knowledge about WW II jeeps, and would like to be contacted by jeep lovers in INDIA for more information. Could this be the starting point. I once again assuse that I am proud to possess the Bible on Jeep Restoration. Would like to own the second book by Ray Cowdrey, but dont know where in India will it be available? Please guide.

"America on Wheels: The First 100 Years: 1896-1996" is my favorite automobile book, and also is the companion to the PBS special. Skillfully written by Frank Coffey and Joseph Layden, it has the most beautiful, full color photographs in a single work that I have seen in the last 12 months of my research. From the early days of the automobile in the 1890's and prior to 1996 and beyond, it adeptly covers automotive development decade-by-decade.

The wonderful hardcover version is large, 8-1/2" x 11", covering 11 chapters over three parts. Part I, "Driving Force" solidly reveals the growth of the automobile from the horseless carriage up through Chapter 4, "Labor Pains," which narrates the beginning and early history of automobile labor unions. At first, both sides were bitterly opposed. Fighting occurred. Bloodied and bruised, the workers and the unions gradually united and worked out their differences--for the time being. After all, World War II was approaching. "Social Mobility," Part II, starts at Chapter 5, "The War Machine" and describes how automobile production all but ceased after Pearl Harbor. Automobile manufacturing became manufacturing for vehicles of war. Chapter 6, "The Post War Room" and Chapter 7, "The Open Road" take you through this difficult and trying period so well with the photographs that you can almost smell the factory smoke and rubber tires, and hear the wrenches clinking. Part III, "Car Wars" details the post-war priorities of Detroit: retool the factories, design new automobile bodies--with chrome and fins--and develop new engines and conveniences to welcome the new age of freedom.

Without a doubt, this is the best and most complete source of information about automotive development in America. It is a virtual pool of American Culture, brimming with helpful anecdotes and interviews of personalities who were there as they happened. I cannot imagine anyone interested in Americana or cars in general who would not be fascinated and impressed by this monumental and definitive pictorial of automobility. "America on Wheels" should be required reading by all students of sociology and American History, or for anyone who appreciates the art of quality bookmaking. It is well worth the money, a book you'll want to keep as long as you live. Inset quotes in old-time black and white frames are the chocolate syrup on the ice cream. In this sense, you'll eat it up! Highly recommended for all readers over 8 (exceptional reading level). Buy it today!

From Duryea To Dodge, here's the American auto history.

This book, the companion to the 1996 PBS series of the same name, gives a straightfoward accounting of the evolution of the automobile in this country. From the first baby steps of the Duryea Auto Wagon to the giant tracks of the latest Jeep Grand Cherokee, America on Wheels chronicles America's tempestuous love affair with their cars and the effects on US society. Everything from mating rituals to education to commerce have been affected by the advent of the auto and the authors chronologically link all together in an easy to understand but not oversimplistic text. If you liked your father's Oldsmobile or your own Mustang, read America On Wheels. - Leila Dunbar, Writer, Mobilia.com

I truly love all kinds of big trucks, but auto carriers never fail to stop me in my tracks wherever I may be. Dick Copello really has hit a tape-measure home run with this book. He does an outstanding job blending a highly-readable text with stunning photos. My sincere recommendation is that if you are a truck fan, you won't be able to put this one down. It will be one of your all-time favorites; I know that it's one of mine!

If you'd like to take any of several self-guided automobile tours of Los Angeles and nearby areas, Laura Massino Smith's books are excellent. Each tour book has clear directions and easy-to-read maps, lots of fascinating notes and information, plus photos of what to look for. I've lived in LA for over twenty-five years, and Smith's books have surprised me with things I'd never seen or hadn't noticed. There are three of her books in my glove compartment so far (Hollywood, Silverlake, and Hancock Park/Miracle Mile) and I'll be getting the rest as well.

The pictures enable the reader to easily identify the buildings she features. And, she includes helpful descriptions of the architecture and interesting facts about the buildings' history. Great tool for travellers intersted in architecture.

A lot is packed into a great "carry with you as you tour around the hard to fully describe area of Silverlake". I give my `I keep in my car' copy to visiting out of towners so they don't have to figure out what the big deal is; it's all in the book and they can then see it for themselves right in front of them. A wonderful series of architecture books for both natives and visitors of Los Angeles.

There are several reasons why you should get this book. First of all, it is the 50th anniversay edition. The content including the pictures are still of very high quality. Then, a Ferrari is on the front page . . . it covers Ferrari's Triumph both in constructor's and driver's championship after 21 years of waiting (assuming you are a Ferrari fan). And finally, if you have followed autocourse before and you are a true F1 fan, I couldn't think of any reason why you should skip this one.
