This fantastic book offers so many different ways to be enjoyed. In this book of mazes, you are in a family car driving through a series of mazes to the zoo, which is the final page of the book. Then, you can work your way back home by finding yet another route backward to the start of the book. Each double-page maze links to the next and offer a different themed environment. Also hidden in each maze is the family car itself and certain letters of the alphabet, as indicated by the road signs at the start of each maze. My five-year-old never tires of this book.

Book is great. It has 13 mazes to complete both forward and backward. All are streets on which you drive paper cars. Each maze is different - city, neighborhood, zoo, golf course, rural, mountains, etc. Not only do you complete the maze, but you are also challenged to find objects in the maze that begin with a certain letter, and you are asked to find certain hidden letters on each page, plus more challenges. My 5 year old son loves to trace through the maze and find the objects (especially the different cars and trucks). He spends hours with it and hasn't tired of it yet. The mazes are very detailed and illustrated beautifully.

Intricate and lighthearted

We have another one of her books, Blimps, which we enjoy. So my son picked this one out at the library. We had a lot of fun with it. We sat for almost half an hour looking at the pictures. My son had fun showing me things he found on his own. We went every maze and traced it with out fingers. Then we had to look for the letters and pictures that he liked. This was very helpful, since he's just learning his letters.

Great book!

Although the book does not go as in depth as I first hoped, it is still a rare look into a man that seems as separated from F1 fans as a head of state is separated from the general public. Many insights were given that explained alot of what we see over the short T.V. bursts that we get here in the States. If you admire Michael now, you will adore him after reading this book. If you are neutral about him I bet you will be cheering him on at the next GP you watch. If you hate him now you at least will understand a lot of what he thinks about himself and why. I really enjoyed it.

If you're going to travel in "Indian country" you need to keep this one in the front seat. Your companion can read while you drive. This book is recommended in the conclusion of The Native American Indian Artist Directory. Along with The Field Guide to Southwest Indian Arts and Crafts you can have a great adventure in the Southwest. Read Kosik and Hardeen's book first. Then read the Field Guide to learn about the art along the "Native Roads." Then open up The Native American Indian Artist Directory and find an address or phone number for the artist that interests you most and have a memorable experience!!

THIS BOOK WAS VERY EASY TO USE AND SO VALUABLE IN "FINDING" PLACES TO VISIT. WE TRAVELED IN THE HOPI RESERVATION RECENTLY AND USED THIS BOOK. WE TOOK THE BOOK'S SUGGESTIONS ON TWO SPECIAL PLACES TO DRIVE OFF THE MAIN ROAD AND FOUND SPECTACULAR VIEWS. ONE SUGGESTION WAS TO DRIVE TOWARDS THE WINDMILL, WHICH WE DID AND WHAT WE SAW WAS UNBELIEVABLE. COAL MINE CANYON OPENED UP BEFORE OUR EYES - SURPRISING BEAUTY FOUND IN A SPECIAL RED AND WHITE CANYON. YOU NEVER WOULD HAVE KNOWN IT WAS THERE EXCEPT FOR THIS BOOK. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN FINDING AREAS LESS "TOURISTY".

Now in a fully updated and expanded second edition, Native Roads: The Complete Motoring Guide To The Navajo And Hopi Nations by Fran Kosik continues to be the definitive travel planning guide for anyone seeking to visit and explore the reservations and hospitality of the Navajo and Hopi peoples. Maps, black-and-white photographs, cultural etiquette tips (for example, Hopis do not allow any photography), self-guided road tours, in-depth descriptions of various locations, and tips on everything from how to discern a well-woven rug to avoiding or dealing with common environmental hazards fill this extremely practical guide cover to cover. An emphatic "must-have" for any tourist interested in visiting the Navajo and Hopi nations for business or pleasure.

A great book for the roads in the area, and best if you buy it beforehand for planning your trip, rather than buying it in a gift shop. It is divided up into sections of the major highways, and is easy to follow. The bits of historical information are interesting, and it will lead you to things you might not otherwise take a look at (or know to look for), including geological formations along the road. It also shows where services are available, including gas -- and in that big open country, that's a nice thing to know. The only downside is that it hasn't been updated since the mid-90's, but the only real changes are a few of the prices and hours of operation, along with the addition of a few hotels and amenities. Overall, a fantastic guide.

The New Lean Pocket Guide XL is a great addition to our training materials. This larger size, new topics on Lean Office and Six Sigma, and most importantly, the numerous digital photos makes this book a benchmark in the industry. We distribute these in all our training sessions. We even discuss the photos and have found ideas for improvements just by looking at them. It's nice to have a book that is this concise, does not clutter information up with case studies (as everyone has one), and has those photo examples upon which to "see" and then "do". A book that does distinguishes itself from the others!

I have purchased nearly every Lean book that has been published over the past 10 years, including The Lean Pocket Guide (MCS Media, Inc.) and found this book to be the best value on the market from current materials available. I like the larger print (in the 5" by 7" format), the new topics that were included, but most significantly, the actual photos of Lean manufacturing practices. The photos that were included have assisted our continuous improvement teams already. Seeing the picture of the Heijunka board for planning on page 26 allowed us to modify our entire shop floor scheduling visual system to emulate something similar to what this displayed. Many other photos that were included also are giving us great ideas for future kaizen events. Great addition to the world of Lean books! Lean Lean Trainer, Sycor Manufacturing, Inc.

I had purchased The Lean Pocket Guide over a year ago and recently purchased The New Lean Pocket Guide XL. Both are superb Lean references. What I do like about the XL version, including the new chapers on Lean Office, Six Sigma, is the Glossary of Lean Terms and the Waste Audit. But most of all what I found most beneficial were the actual photos placed throughout demonstrating many of the Lean tools. Many books just offer illustrations, The New Lean Pocket Guide XL shows Lean in action in various manufacturing operations. The book does it for me. I will be purchasing these for all my managers and supervisors (the associates already have The Lean Pocket Guide). An excellent enhancement of an already great book!

A Good Collection of Lean Tools

Review Date: 2007-01-17
This book is a handy collection of all the lean tools you can think of. Each tool is described clearly and simply in a couple of pages with a step by step guide for implementation. You probably need to have a background understanding of lean and its principles to use book but it is a handy reference of all the tools. It lacks overview material on the history and philosophy of lean, and it would be useful to have a clearer description of how to fit the tools together (perhaps some flow charts of what to use when etc). In summary then, great description of lean tools; lacks the background on lean and how to deploy it as a philosophy.

no right turn is a great book

This book was one of the best books I have ever read. Jordan starts out as a very depressed kid. His dad committed suicide and he thought it was his entire fault. The setting of the book is mainly his school and neighborhood. Also a few specific roads in the town. It takes place in present time. Then, a few years later, his mom meets this guy...Don Luger. And he just happens to own a 76' corvette stingray. Jordan was never a fan of cars, but as soon as Don takes him for a ride and goes 110 mph he realizes that he needs to feel that rush again. He says that it is the first time everything felt like it was going to be okay after his dad dies. So when Don goes out of town, he steals the car. He loves it and he starts doing it more and more. And this one time he meets this girl, Becka Thorson, who is drawn in by the car. They start going out. And it's off and on relationship.

Jordan eventually gets caught stealing the car. This book has a somewhat abrupt ending. Now that doesn't mean it's a bad ending. I love the ending. It makes you think a little. I recommend this book to people who like cars, well actually anybody who likes a book that you can't put down. I recommend this book to these people because it's just a great book that you wont regret reading and it's defiantly worth owning. Terry Trueman is a great author. This book has drama, action, and even some adventure. It's a must read. I give No Right Turn five stars. Thank you for reading my review on No Right Turn by Terry Trueman.

It isn't that our children can not read, but that until an author writes a book that CAN'T BE PUT DOWN, they don't know that they love to read. Terry Trueman is one of the best authors I have to offer these students. Mr.Trueman gives us an opportunity to know what it might be like to have or to love someone who has a disability. His book, Inside Out is incredable. No Right Turn is just another outstanding example. THANK YOU TERRY TRUEMAN.

Terry Trueman is a friend of mine. I read No Right Turn in its infancy. Jordan and his angst are real and right on. The twists and turns are all authentic. This book is Terry Trueman. Look at his penchant for fast automobiles and anyone could picture his own '76 Corvette roaring around Spokane, his home town.

Terry was Jordan, a very long time ago. But Terry's fertile mind is in a place where Jordan has developed and Jordan's quandry is now able to find voice, dealing with fears and desires of all young tees.

Terry is a wonderful pervayor of teen angst. He has lived it for quite awhile. Once again, Terry has touched the teen soul, and in doing so, has touched his own. We all know Jordan and root for his deliverance.

Brave novel, brilliant mind, dashed with reality.

Intense and fast paced

When Jordan came home from school one afternoon, he and his dad had a conversation that was puzzling. Why was his dad apologizing? Later, when he heard the gunshot, Jordan knew that his father had killed himself. He still ran down and attempted CPR, but could not save him.

Three years later, Jordan is 16 and still trying to avoid thinking about that terrible day. Everyone but him seems to be moving on. He's become totally numb, with no friends except the somewhat strange Wally, no sports, and no one to talk to. His mother is starting to date again, a neighbor named Don with a really cool Corvette.

The car starts bringing Jordan back to life. First he helps Don with the constant maintenance and polishing it requires, and then they take it to an auto show. The next thing Jordan knows, he's planning to steal the vehicle on the nights when Don isn't home. On his first trip out, he helps Becka, a gorgeous cheerleader who loves "his" car. Author Terry Trueman describes the car and its rides so well that readers will feel like they're right there; even non-gearheads will appreciate this fine automobile.

But soon it becomes easy for Jordan to take it out all the time. He realizes that the thrill he has while speeding around road curves is the first emotion he's experienced in three years. And now the feelings he has for Becka, as they see more of each other, really help him come alive again. He just doesn't know if Becka likes him for himself or for his cool ride.

There is a price for these thrills, and eventually Jordan has to pay it. But getting caught may be just what he needs to help him start recovering from the shock of finding his lifeless father.

NO RIGHT TURN is intense and fast-paced, and just like with Trueman's previous titles, STUCK IN NEUTRAL and CRUISE CONTROL, readers will be left thinking about the main protagonist for a long time.

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Terry Trueman's books, so I won't waste time praising his virtues. Although come to think of it, he might appreciate that. Still, the story of sixteen-year old Jordan, the main character of NO RIGHT TURN, should hopefully be praise enough.

Suicide is never pretty. But when you're a teen, and the last thing your father says to you before he shoots himself is "it's all such bull***t," suicide becomes something bigger than a simple death. It's the thing you think about all the time, and yet never talk about. You wonder, almost constantly, why your father would apologize, then take himself out of your life forever. You wonder which part of life was bull***t--the fact that he was married to your mother?; that he had you as a son?; that his life was boring and predictable with a job and bills and a family to weigh him down?

Several years later, Jordan still doesn't have any answers. All he knows is that his dad is dead, and by his own hand, and that there's no joy in his life. Actually, Jordan doesn't have much of a life at all. All of that changes, though, when his mom starts dating Don Lugar, a guy who owns something that Jordan suddenly can't live without--a 1976 Corvette, a Stingray with a custom paint job, tinted windows, big tires, and a cool canister of nitrous that will really make that baby go.

The first time he goes for a ride in the 'Vette with Don, Jordan realizes that going 110 mph in that car is the first time in a very long while that he can remember feeling alive. The first time, in fact, that he doesn't feel like a walking zombie. So Jordan comes up with the brilliant idea of taking the 'Vette for a drive--by himself--one Wednesday night when Don is out of town. Just one time, one drive by himself, is all he needs to recapture that feeling of being part of the world.

But one time isn't enough, of course, and it doesn't help matters when he meets cheerleader Becka Thorson, one of the most popular girls in school, during one of his clandestine drives. Now the girl of his dreams thinks he's some cool guy with a custom 'Vette, and Jordan's desperate to keep up the image he's created. Once wasn't enough with the car, and he doesn't know what will have to happen to come clean to Becka--and to Don and his mother.

NO RIGHT TURN is another winer from Terry Trueman. Heartfelt, emotional, and full of true-to-life characters, this is a story for anyone who has ever felt like their world has been turned upside down--and for those who don't know how to put it back right-side-up. Definitely a recommended read.

I'm a elementary school librarian and happened to pick this book up in the bargain bin at a discount bookstore. What a great find! I read it to my 1-3 grade classes and they LOVED it. English learners love that there is some spanish and English speakers liked learning a little spanish. That the spanish rhymes is a big plus. Of course, most kids can completely relate to being on a car trip and suddenly having to go to "el bano".

Bathroom, rapido!

A humorous story about a young girl who has to go to the bathroom "rapido". They are riding in the car and the daughter announces that she needs a bathroom. The story brings the car and the parents through town, in search of "un bano". One of the huge attractions of this story is the fact that it is a K-3 book with stores, buildings, colors, and common greetings which are all written in Spanish. Because it rhymes we are able to determine the pronunciation of most of the words: because of the paintings and context clues, we are able to determine the meanings of the Spanish words. The glossary and pronunciation guide contains spelling and translations of fifty-two words and phrases.

This picture book will be a marvelous addition to the bi-lingual classroom. Children who speak or read Spanish will be able to explain greetings, colors and familiar buildings to their English speaking classmates. English speaking children will learn some Spanish and empathy for their ESL friends. The watercolor pictures in the book feature the parents in the front seat and the small girl in the back seat. There are single and double-page spreads, pictures of the girl bordered in flowers and colors. The street scene with buildings labeled in Spanish paints their red car angularly, in the middle of the street, to indicate it does not know which way to go. The double paged line at the bathroom appears interminable with strollers, grandmothers, infants, teens and women of color and diversity. Cut ending!

Very Funny Ending!

Adam was my sister's age when he died. I personalized him so much it was good to see pictures of him and the family growing up. It also chronicles NASCAR growing up. There have always been the Pettys in NASCAR. Sadly, that might not be true in the future. It's a great book and a wonderful cause.

A must for all Petty fans..

This book made me feel as though I was sitting in the Petty's living room looking at old photos and reminising.A great tribute to Adam Petty with the proceeds going to the Victory Junction Camp. Great idea and great photos...Thanks to the Petty family for letting me into their lives.

social criticism, iconoclasm, and good silly fun - all in one!

I think this is absolutely brilliant. The author has rewritten classics of literature like The Book of Genesis and Moby Dick, along with Beatles lyrics and other stuff, using text from actual vanity license plates registered at the California DMV. The covers of the book are metal and look like license plates. Among the highlights are versions of Kafka's "Metamorphosis" (Bug Dude) and "Oedipus Rex" (O Eddy the King).

This is simultaneously good silly fun, iconoclastic mockery of the canon of western culture, a celebration of California car culture, and very pointed social criticism of California (esp. southern Cali). Anybody who has spent any amount of time here will appreciate it. It will particularly appeal to people who have been transplanted here from other places, and have had to adjust to the local idiosyncrasies. I have given copies of this book as souvenirs to visitors.

Why this is out of print is beyond me. This book is a CLASSIC!

PL8SPK ("Platespeak") is an amazing book, a wonder of a book, a book that looks at vanity license plates and sees, quite literally, poetry in motion.

Nussbaum re-tells tales, from "Genesis" to "I Love Lucy", using only authentic vanity license plates from California -- and using each plate only once per story. Clearly here's a man with too much time on his hands, but oh! the use to which he puts it. Kafka's "Metamorphisis," "The Picture of Dorian Gray," and even "E.T." come to life in a vivid new way in Nussbaum's delightfully twisted mind.

If you delight at all in word play, snatch up a copy of "PL8SPK", decipher it, and share it with your friends.

The metal-cover edition is beautifully crafted and a fantastic gift, if you can find one. [I wish I had bought 10 copies at the time.] The thought that went into writing and manufacturing this book was well worth the effort. A telling tale of language and communication on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

Dear Publisher: PLEASE REPRINT THIS BOOK!!!

This book is clever, funny and wise, an charmingly oblique and literary look at American car culture. It should always be available to be given as a gift to word lovers everywhere.

Completely Amazing!!

I went to Florida with a friend. We stayed at her Grandmother's. I got to sleep on the couch. Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep that first night. There, sitting on the coffee table was a copy of this book (which had the most original cover, that I've ever seen). Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. It was so cleverly written, that it was the highlight of my trip (Disney was cool too, though). Ever since, I've been trying to locate a copy for myself (that was over 5 years ago). This book must be re-issued, and given the marketing it deserves!!

Writer Rob Campbell gives us a personal look at the important place in our lives that our cars occupy. Who doesn't think back to the car we drove in high school, what car our first boyfriend took us to the prom in, what car we bought after getting that first great job; we choose cars as an expression of ourselves as much as the clothes we choose or the foods we eat. The writer's examination of the connection between self and self-expression are fascinating, and all too true.

For the non-car obsessed a facinating, introspective journey. For those who's cars are a bodily extension, a must-read. The first chapter, 'Sun, Fun, Stay, Play' really captures all the searing pain of growing up in Bakersfield, inside and outside of your cruising car.

Unusual, intelligent, emotional

A lovely book that does a satisfying job of blurring the lines between memoir, journalism, and quirky meditation. Expresses the ineluctable emotion we all feel for our cars, past and present that we sometimes mistake for materialism.

Thoroughly entertaining -- and intriguing!

As a reader who is obsessed with books, orchids, and technology -- it is not hard to imagine how one can be obsessed about cars. In fact, at a younger age I would have categorized myself as such, until I read this book. Now I know what it really means to be "obsessed!"

Campbell uses these essays to enlighten, tease, rant and mostly entertain. It is a thoroughly American journey that runs the spectrum from Angst to Zen. Highly recommended.

You've never read anything like this.

I am not a big reader, so the agent of this book told me to start with a brief section on page 134 (called "Breakdown #2). I was blown away. Campbell, the author, is HIV-positive, but totally enlightened and enlightening. He's hilarious, but also warm and honest and accepting. MUST READ for anyone HIV-pos or anyone who knows anyone HIV-pos.
