with a great message. I enjoyed this book very much myself. I used it in children's church during December. The children loved it and could tell others what the legend was.

A Legend with some History

Using the format of a family searching for a Christmas tree, the story tells about the legend which began during the Reformation. In Germany in the 1500's, Martin Luther (founder of the Lutheran Church) brought a tree into his house and he set candles on it to celebrate Jesus, the Light of the World. There's a brief mention of the Biblical significance of Christmas. Many people find it appropriate for public school use along with the singing of the song, "Oh, Christmas Tree."
The birthdays of famous people are recognized so in recognizing Jesus' birthday it is historically significant to know why he is famous.

Could this book have a few more adjectives?!

I'll save this one and read it every Christmas, BUT it is extremely heavy on the adjectives, and totally corny. I would skip this one if I were you, for me it's not worth the money to send it back!!

I avidly read children's literature. (I'm a teacher- what can you expect?) I thought the idea of the story was nice, but the author seemed to be trying too hard. The story didn't always flow smoothly from page to page (or sometimes from sentence to sentence). The book seemed to be almost littered with adjectives that distracted me from the story. Save your money.

Good Choice for Classroom Reading Guest

I purchased this book for two reasons. It brings to light the true meaning of Christmas...Jesus and sharing love. This story provides another format to talk about the birth of Christ to your children aside from the traditional manger story. There's a light introduction to the biblical significance of Christmas, in addition to the treasure of family unity. I found that this book helps reinforce the values which I am trying to emphasize in my own family, while also cherrishing old time family traditions. In case you were concerned, I don't think it dilutes the truth of the bible...Also, as a mother of two young elementary school-aged children, I also have the opportunity to be a guest reader in the classroom. It is totally appropriate reading for public schools, even though there is biblical reference. This book offers a refreshing change from the fantasy holiday stories and commercialization of Christmas. It will be a special story to your family and it will set a warm-hearted atmosphere to your tree-decorating festivities.

By and large, "Dodge & Plymouth Muscle Car Red Book" is a very useful tool for those involved with restoring classic cars, classic car shows, scale-model car enthusiasts, etc. Even classic game show fans can find this book helpful when playing along with those merchandise giveaway shows from the 1960s and 1970s (e.g., "Let's Make a Deal"). Yes, there are some omissions that some might find irritating, or might even detract from its usefulness. I would have considered this book even more helpful had it listed the contents of option packages; it does give some listings for the performance packages (what most people are interested in, I'm sure), but many people I'm sure are also interested in the contents of the trim, convenience and Quick Order (i.e., Basic Group and Basic Radio Group) packages as well. And, unlike Sessler's "Red Book" for Chevrolet Super Sport models, this book does not list installation rates or options for a particular model or its sister lines; e.g., in the section for the 1970 Plymouth Fury GT, there's no listings for the Plymouth I, II, III and Sport Fury or Suburban station wagon models (the Chevrolet book lists options, prices and installation rates for all Super Sport models and their more conservative family car bretheren). Some people who are restoring the family car members of a line might find this book helpful, too. Also, I also think the omission of year-by-year listings, VINs, prices, weights, etc., for the 1956-1971 Plymouth Sport Fury serves as a turn-off to fans of this model. Also, some people might be interested in special order, Mopar custom accessory and dealer-installed option lists, too (for that finishing touch to that 100-point show car). Hopefully, some or all of these issues will be addressed in a revised edition of "Dodge & Plymouth Muscle Car Red Book." Still, a very useful book for many Mopar muscle car fans that will be used and appreciated by all.

Every self respecting mopar tire kicker has a copy of this. Its the broadest reference guide for identifying option codes, VINs, and select serial numbers on mopar muscle. Production totals and option prices are included as well. It lists cars by year and model with a decent breakdown for each.

The one thing that this book is lacking is a chapter that explains how to read the fender tag, as most of the cars built from 1960 to 1970 no longer have the build sheet or it can no longer be read.

This book seems good for PERFORMANCE rebuilds. But if you're just learning about rebuilding engines, follow the books advice, and start elsewhere. Here's a quote from the book's introduction: "[This book] was written with the performance enthusiast in mind, and contains large amounts of information generated by Chrysler's internal research and development engineers. This book was also written with the assumption that the reader is already familiar with general overhaul, disassembly and assembly practices, especially those peculiar to the Chrysler A engine. Complete standards and techniques for these engines in stock form can be found in HPBooks' HOW TO REBUILD YOUR SMALL-BLOCK MOPAR and in the Chrysler factory service manual for your particular engine. For factory manuals write: Chrysler Service Publications, 20026 Progress Drive, Strongville, Ohio, 44136. This book begins where those two books end--and that is on how to build a high-performance Chrysler small-block--very high-performance."

I'm not quite sure what other reviewers read, but this is not a book for standard rebuilds. This covers performance work only, and would not be a guide for the first-timer. It contains info on building up circle-track, drag, and street/strip cars, with general advice and specific part number and machining spec's. The book is written with a heavy factory-slant, as many of the parts and suggestions concern Mopar-sold parts. There's nothing wrong with that, as a lot of fast Chryslers run Mopar-brand equipment. The thank-you list in the front reads like a who's- who of Chrysler racing history, and some of them work at Chrysler to this day, so this isn't some guy out in left field telling you to slap a 800 CFM carb on your 1978 Lean Burn 318 and go Corvette hunting- he and his advisors know small block Chryslers better than almost anybody else I can think of. I've known or worked with several of them, and they've turned out an impressive pile of fast engines over the years. This book is well worth the $15 investment, considering the money you'll dump into a good motor

Good for 1st timers DIY's excellent for standard rebuilds

Review Date: 1998-09-26
The book is well written, very thorough, easy to understand for the beginner. One flaw though, is that it only covers standard rebuilds, and it does not go into the performance aspect at all which is where it loses out in the market, if you already have a sound foundation in rebuilding engines and already know the basics, you would be better served buying something like Mopar speed secrets or something along those lines.

All in all it is still a very good book.

Dodge puts admirable effort into presenting a collection of excellently preserved tin cans. However, I cannot recommend the result to the serious researcher! The descriptive information was not useful. Yes, the photos are "pretty" to look at, but if your interest is in manufacturing dates or length of use, this book will only disappoint. The book's descriptions gave only manufacturer and estimated value - not date or patent information. I bought this book because the title "Antique Tins" seemed to suggest it would provide useful information, but that is not the case. I returned the book.

This was all I expected and more. Over 100 ways of presenting data about the Internet, including fantastic advances in data collection AND analysis AND presentation. Beauty arises from every page. You may need to have a love for mathematics, statistics, the Internet, or just art to "get" this book - but I have a soft spot for all four of those, and fell head over heels.

Review Date: 2002-07-05
In "The Atlas of Cyberspace", I was anticipating a book patterned on Tufte's "Visual Display of Quantitative Information". Indeed, much of the graphical content of Dodge and Kitchin's book is beautiful, thought-provoking and informative. Unfortunately, the printing is unforgivably bad; the images deserve high quality renderings. Several of the most intriguing hand-drawn and computer-generated images are simply illegible; all of them have lost their textural presence and contrast.

The text, on the other hand, ranges from workmanlike commentary on the graphics to watered down post modern cultural analysis. Light editing could remove at least half of the illustrations, providing a tighter focus on the remainder. In many cases, multiple instances of the same type of diagram are presented. Although this may be a start toward serious design analyses, it's distracting in a coffee table book such as this one.

The organization is by content rather than by visualization type. The first quarter of the book traces the history of the development of the web, and attempts to map traffic patterns and growth. The next section concentrates on the informational organization of the web, as opposed to the physical or topological. The third quarter maps "community", including more literal instances such as MUDs, as well as purely virtual ones such as discussion groups. The weakest section of the book is the last, which traces "cyberpunk", represented here with quotes from Gibson and Stephenson. This final section includes gratuituous screen shots from "The Matrix" and even more gratuitous "analysis".

Despite this book's many shortcomings, there's no alternative, and the fraction of the images that are truly inspiring make "Atlas of Cyberspace" not only worthwhile, but almost necessary.

It's not a necessity for all but the the most diehard fans of these models. Its still a good value considering the cheap price tag, and if you are like me, you cant get enough of the Mopar E-Body.

The book is a rehash of the authors' 1999 publication "Running Microsoft Excel 2000." Both books have the same problem, i.e. a lack of comprehensive examples. Of the two, this book is only slightly better. Some of the examples appear to be extracted from the Help file rather than providing additional needed information.

Also, for someone learning or attempting to advance in Excel, neither of these books follow the [helpful] format of the rudimentary "Step by Step Microsoft" books that include, in the margins, pictures of the buttons. These give the relative novice potentially quick aid in navigating the system.

I'm glad I bought it

Contrary to the other two reviews that existed when I wrote this, I found this book to be just what I needed. I have years of experience with every version of Excel, but only at a modest level. Because I do my work in SQL Server, I never needed any of the more obscure (to me) Excel features, until now. This book answered several of the how-to questions I had with its examples.

I have to agree with the reviewer who wanted more depth. While this book has met my immediate needs, it is clear that it is going to leave me wanting more, very soon. I will certainly have to buy a more advanced book, but I would not have been happy with a very advanced book before I used this one.

My advice is to take a look at the sample pages on Amazon and only buy the book if it addresses your specific issues.

This book is not a bad introduction to Excel, but for me, it falls short of it's title. If you need explanations on such basic operations as "Altering Cell Contents" -or - "Formatting a Cell", then this book is no a bad choice. It's well organized and the writing is clear. It just doesn't contain the kind of depth I expected. I would think that a book with an ambitious title like " Excel from the inside out" would at least contain some information on advanced subjects like creating addins but it doesn't. The CD that comes stuck in the back provides nothing of additional value. I think the authors just compiled some useless odds and ends they had laying around in order to have a CD to include - possibly hoping it would improve sales.
If you are not at all familiar with Excel then you could do worse than this book but if you are looking to extend your knowledge beyond an introductory users manual then this is not the book you want. In fact this is the kind of book that Microsoft should be providing to you free - as part of your purchase of the software. Come to think of it, if you are new to spreadsheets and haven't made a purchase yet, do the industry a favor and buy Lotus 123, or QuatroPro and skip this book and Microsoft both.

As an Excel programmer, I needed a "base-text" for setting up VBA. I gave it a 5 star because it has the main material I need to setup the next step to make Excel do the max. This is an intro Excel text that covers many areas essential to my work. I noticed the rather weak reviews of this text an I am surprised. I wonder if they really read the book! For VBA work, I use MS Excel 2002 Power Programming with VBA by John Walkenbach. The combination of these two books makes working in Excel very easy.

This book is much better than vol. 1 (Dodge, Ply. and Chrysler Police Cars 1957 - 1978). That still doesn't say much, as the writing is elementary, repetitious and it's quite apparent that the author thinks that Chrysler never made a bad police car. I'd like some objectivity here. The info is there, you just have to hunt for it and make use of peculiar table formations (although again, at least there seems to be a modicum of uniformity in the tables versus the first volume). I had high hopes for this book, and I'm still waiting for an excellent book on police vehicles. I've yet to see one!

This lady surely *loves* the Everlys - don't know if I'd call them "Outlaws", although they are Hall of Fame first-drafters. and so can be catagorized as true "Rockin' Rebels".

This book is really a "love letter" to Don and Phil from a new writer, Actress Consuelo Dodge. It's written to the Everlys and for all the other lady fans (no sexism intended).

The critical prefacing above suggests that she is opinionated and prententious. I found her style to be warm, engaging, different. It does read like a "fan club" essay but that's okay with me.

Her Everly compositions, career chronology, major releases lists, are beautifully arranged, and are very important for the E.B. novice fan/historian. The parenthetical unreleased songs made me sit forward and say "....what a feeling!".

I loved it! It was honest instead of a lot of fluff.
