I am a Pilates teacher who recently has three pregnant students. I reviewed many books from my library system and found this one of the absolute best value and advice. Be careful what you read can be extremely contradictory with pilates(which works the abdominal muscels) and pregnancy. This book is sensible and safe. You will certainly get your moneys worth. It is a great reference book for teacher. Have it in your studios.

If I could recommend one title to all expecting parents, it would be the Pink Kit. This kit takes you miles and leaps ahead of the cookie cutter approaches to childbirth. It gives you tangible tools for your body... and helps you to learn your body better so you know how to take charge of your own labour and delivery.

Practitioners should read this because it will give you an understanding of childbirth like you have never had before.

The Only Kit a Pregnant Woman Needs

Review Date: 2003-09-18
I cannot tell you how important this Kit has been to me personally and professionally. I have read and reviewed literally hundreds of books, videos and other products for birth professionals and birthing women during my career as a doula and childbirth educator - by far this Kit is the best of the best. How many women know - truly know - much about their bodies, how their pelvis moves, how to move their sacrum and tailbone, and thus open their pelvis during labour and birth? Precious few... and that is the essence of this Kit - teaching women about their own pelvis, their own muscles, and how to relax and move their specific pelvis and muscles.

Personally I have had four children, three of them by cesarean section after long and painful labours. I was diagnosed with CPD twice. My fourth child was born vaginally after I learned how to open my pelvic outlet during labour - it was still painful but she literally fell out as I was in a good position that opened my pelvis. Semi-sitting and a deep squat closed my pelvis but a supported squat is what opened my sit bones and I am still elated from the experience five months later.

Professionally I have primarily supported VBAC women in my practice and the knowledge I gained from the Pink Kit has been invaluable to my clients and students. They not only know how to birth, they trust their bodies and their experiences have been greatly enhanced with this knowledge and trust. Please, consider this your FIRST investment in your birth experience and for your baby - trust me, you will thank me, I promise.

Helpful Votes: 18 out of 18 total.
Review Date: 2001-08-25
This text is a comprehensive presentation of the knowledge and skills needed by an RN to effectively managed a patient before, during, and after delivery. Tucker has provided all aspects of the procedure in an easy to read, straight forward format. The book includes chapters on maternal and fetal physiology and FHT instrumentation and technology. Of particular note, are chapters on uterine activity monitoring, baseline fetal heart rate changes, and interpretation of reassuring and non reassuring FHT patterns. Interventions and obligations are discussed. A quick method for assessing FHT is given. A standard of care for FHT monitoring and care of the intrapartum and postpartum patient is also included. Nursing diagoses are listed for the intrapartum and postpartum period. Culterally sensitive care is discussed as well. Documentation, risk reduction, and education are discussed. Appendixes add information on risk factors, Leopold's maneuvers, protocals of cervical ripending, care of patients in preterm labor with information on tocolytics, and sample tracings are given. This book is an excellent guide and may be used for reference after its initial reading.

I have an older version of this book. I followed the excercises with my first pregnancy back in 1988. The illustrations are easy to follow. There are tips on how to relax and the breathing is better than lamaze in my opinion. I would highly recommend this book for filling your pregnancy with good thoughts and relaxation.

A Wonderful Book, A Wonderful Person

Positive Pregnancy Fitness is the best prenatal/ labor preparedness book I have had the pleasure to read. Sylvia's manner is wonderful, and her directionss are easy to follow. By utilizing the exercises and meditations contained within, as well as her guided breaths and hand movements, I had a wonderfully easy labor (six hours of labor and nine minutes of pushing!) Everyone with whom I have spoken, having used the Positive Pregnancy Fitness program, has had similar experiences.

We all miss Sylvia, and the light that she let shine forth. She passed away in April, 1997, after more than a decade of fighting Myasthenia Gravis, a rare neuromuscular disease. I am happy to have known her, and proud to be her daughter-in-law.

Simply the best

This book is simply the best book about taking care of oneself during and after pregnancy.

The author's view of "fitness" is heavily influenced by yoga, so it includes gentle exercise, nutrition, and lots of common sense. The emphasis is on how the pregnant woman can take care of herself, and not on how to turn to medical practitioners unless specifically needed. The information is well-organized, the writing is clear, pictures and diagrams are used appropriately.

For the past seven years, I have been recommending this book to all pregnant women who ask for my advice. I'm delighted to have a chance to review it on Amazon!

i got this book when i was pregnant, and could barely walk because of my back pain. it's good for women who may have never needed any thing for back pain. i personally didn't need the book, it didn't really help me much. i ended up just doing my usual back stretches, but modified them for my pregnancy.

A Practical Book For Learning To See Through Everyone Around You
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-03
First time ever, this book combines three ways of gaining deeper insight into other persons inner world by equipping you with practical knowledge regarding details of his or her inner world from truthfulness to addictions to sex drive. These three ways are nonverbal communication between people, physiognomy and auras. It analyzes 50 practical categories of love and work relationships.

Why you may need this book? Our life is an endless dialog with surrounding, and our success depends on our ability to deal with people in our space without allowing them to run our lives. In other words, our success depends on our ability to be kind to people keeping our boundaries strong and impenetrable. In order to get there, it helps to understand people, who touch our lives, and especially people whom we cannot avoid. We have to know for sure, who we are dealing with. If you still have some problems in this area, this book is for you. Rose Rosetree is the author of eight books. READ PEOPLE DEEPER is her best, because here she reveals everything that she has learned about people and life during decades of research and writing about it. Also, in this book she has reached the deceptive ease of expression that makes reading a fulfilling experience. You will learn specific details about yourself and others that were always there to study and work on, but you (me too!) were not able to identify or recognize or understand them.

This book is a useful tool to improve your outlook on life and also enhance your awareness of those around you.

As you read through "Read People Deeper" you'll find you become more adept at reading body language, faces and auras. The book is loaded with simple yet effective exercises to deepen your understanding and it will leave you feeling empowered!

While reading this book Reality Fitness , I felt Ms. Anderson was putting my words on paper. Not only mine but hundreds of women who have struggled with health, weight and nutrition problems. Ms. Anderson has captured the truth about realistic life and draws you in to her book so well that you can really relate to your health and wellness.

I enjoyed reading it because it is a posative look at helping you feel better. Body image isn't how others perceive us , it is how we feel ourselves, and if that isn't being a cover girl model, that's alright. She says it has to do with our spirit, our mind and how we treat ourselves. She also writes that we are all differant, so what is working for me might not work for others.

It is a great inspiration to women to know that someone, Ms.Anderson, has taken the time to tell here realistic story, that has inspired me to think of ME for a change, to become healthy and fit. Even if it is starting out taking baby steps.

It's about time a fitness professional has come forward with a real philosophy for real people. I am a fitness professional myself and believe that the approach and attitude Nicki Anderson took towards changing her life can serve as an example for anyone who has ever tried or is contemplating changing their lifestyle to a healthy and happier one. It's not just starting an exercise program or counting calories...it's changing who you are. We have to be learn how to be positive WITH ourselves before we can start doing positive things FOR ourselves. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever considered a healthier and happier way of life. I hope that is EVERYBODY.

Manageable change

Review Date: 2000-09-21
This book reminds me of the saying "Life is hard by the yard, but by the inch its a cinch". The author does away with the all-or-nothing approach and instead focuses on manageable change. She advises keeping a food journal, becoming aware of your current habits and finding ways to make changes. She also advocates a fitness plan that you can actually live with. This book will not make you feel like a failure if you can't stick to a stict regime. Highly recommended!

This is a practical book, in that it gives one step- by-step instructions on moving physically through surgery and recovery from breast cancer. In addition, it is clear that the author cares deeply about her patients, indeed all breast cancer patients, and wants to communicate to them ways to get past the shock of this illness, both physical and emotional. I would wish that every doctor would give it to every breast cancer patient before her treatment. Kudos to this compassionate, energetic author.

This book is a must read for those suffering with a chronic illness. Pauline makes such a creamy smooth blend of part memoir and part self-help that you don't even know where one leaves off and the other begins. Written in everyday understandable terms, I found it very easy to read. She writes how her faith has opened many doors and paved the way to a happy and wholesome lifestyle. Surrounded by family and friends, she exudes warmth, courage and selflessness. I highly recommend this book "Removing The Sting".

After reading Removing The Sting, I have a new understanding of who my mother is, and what a wonderful story she has written. It is hard to understand Parkinson's but this book not only helps those with Parkinson's but the family dealing with this disease as well. I recomend this book to everyone, it will make you appreciate everything that you have in this life so much more. Thank you Mom for writing this book, I am very proud of you and always will be.

I devoured this book in one sitting and came away feeling refreshed and uplifted. I admit to being a bit biased as I know the author, Pauline Neck, personally as she is a member of my writing group, but feel I know her much better now.
I think this book would be helpful to anyone familiar with not only Parkinson's disease, but any kind of discouraging medical diagnosis. Pauline's determined positivity is a real asset to coping with life, in whatever way it presents itself. Her decision to redeem adversity by encouraging others is inspirational.
While the book chronicles Pauline's personal journey, it also includes a useful appendix of Parkinson's disease-related organizations. It would make a great gift for anyone with a similar diagnosis. Besides the appendix, the book is accented with photographs, prose and poetry, and inspirational text.
A great first, Pauline. Let's hear some more.
