You're gonna wear this book out. Highlight it. Mark it up. It's full of "how-to" gems. I absolutely love Maryam Webster's book, "Everyday Bliss for Busy Women." Let's start with its user-friendly format. At 5×7, it's a handy size that feels good in your hands. The book is nicely laid out and inviting to read.
I like that, "Everyday Bliss" is written by a woman especially for women. Sorry guys, but society expects women to play and juggle more roles in life than men. Women also have different needs than men.
"Everyday Bliss" starts out explaining why it's important to create bliss in our lives and balance our energy. We can choose to take the time to focus our energy instead of reacting and dispersing it in different directions. Maryam talks about the toxic effects of negative energy as well as negative beliefs and how harmful and limiting they can be.
What I like best about the book is that Maryam shares her knowledge, providing specifics for cleansing and relieving tension, plus ways to create everyday bliss using cutting-edge methods like EFT, TAT, ZPoint Process and others.
Ultimately, this book is about getting in touch with your spirituality. "Everyday Bliss" is a soothing wave of caring and encouragement. I wish I had a beautiful tool like this when I was in my twenties or thirties. Maryam, thank you for sharing your life experiences and methods, reaching out to the women of the world to show us that there is a way of being, doing, and having a life of everyday bliss.

more than just menopause. There's a lot of traditional health and medical info , but also sections on alternatives to hormone replacement therapy. I especially like (and need) the tips on sharpening your memory. Based on what I"ve read so far, this book is really reassuring that I'm NOT sick and I'm NOT going crazy and there IS life after menopause.

Mostly I appreciate how I can pick up the book, open it to anywhere at all and read something interesting. And I love the way the author injects some welcome humor into a serious and complex topic. I find the tone encouraging and comforting, as when talking about social concerns of perimenopause and being a member of the "sandwich generation." I'm glad I have this book handy. I just wish I'd had it in my hands about ten years ago when changes were just beginning. But even now it is full of great reminders to pay attention to my health and be gentle with myself.

Review by former Physiology Teaching Fellow....Review Date: 2007-05-07
In general, I love this author's work and particularly liked Anatomy of Movement. I didn't like the Female Pelvis quite as much, but I still think it is very good. If I was able to, I would rate it a 4.5. Like all of this writer's work, the material is thoughtfully developed and presented in an easy to understand manner. There are also lots of diagrams that are very clear and compliment the text.
The difficulty with the pelvic region is that it is very hard to visualize it in three dimensions. This presents a challenge to the author and I think that he does a very good job of conveying three dimensions through all different kinds of diagrams.
The book starts out with the basic skeltal structure and then adds more detail a little bit at a time. At the same time, corresponding functionality is discussed and this keeps the book interesting and helps with memory attention. The average person can certainly go through this book easily, which is a testimony to the clarity and organization of the book.
With that said, I think to really learn the anatomy thoroughly one needs either the experience of dissecting this region or an augmentation of this material with useful photographs that show more detail and how everything fits together. For the average person, this may not be necessary, but for people in PT, yoga, massage or medical-related fields, it would solidify your understanding and help you to lock it in.
One think that is really special about this book is that it is mostly pictures with concise descriptions. The logical development of the topic allows it to flow and it doesn't deviate from its purpose, which is to educate women about the importance of the pelvis, how it changes through the lifecycle and how you can keep it healthy through exercise.
In reality, one book can't be all things to all people. This book is no exception and it is one of the best of its kind. If you are very interested in this area, I would also consider purchasing Pelvic Power for Men and Women: Mind/Body Exercises for Strength, Flexibility, Posture, and Balance. This book has a bit of a different angle, more exercises and more text. I think the two books are very complimentary and if you are serious about learning this anatomy and keeping your pelvis fit, you ought to have both to get the maximum results and understanding.
If you have a deep interest in this topic, you can find more resources on my listmania lists. There are several general anatomy texts all with different strengths and weaknesses listed. This would be useful information for people who need a very in-depth understanding or who have difficulty visualizing three dimensions from diagrams.

Surprisingly Thorough!Review Date: 2007-05-18
The food advice is invaluable- esp. in increasing Dad's fertility. I love how it also warned about the enviromental factors that lead to decreased fertility for both Mom/Dad-to-be. After reading this, I didn't let dh apply the pesticides/herbicides to our yard anymore.
The book isn't magic, but it sure can help.
Ascetically, it is very pleasing to touch and read, even though it is older now.
Recommend to anyone considering conceiving.

Finally something I can believe and followReview Date: 2006-04-24
With the information from this book, I have a way to improve both my skeleton and be good to my heart. I like the way she writes - with good data, lots of resources and references, but in a way someone not very technical, like me, can understand why things work the way they do. And the recipes look great. I haven't tried any of them yet, but plan to, once I get my own book (I found this in the library). To me one of the most important points she makes is that calcium isn't the entire answer - it's all nutrients and the amounts of them that are so critical. And, every body is a little different in the way it needs to receive these nutrients. If your ancestors didn't traditionally eat milk products, milk probably isn't the best way for you to get the needed nutrients for your body.
I learned that maybe my joint and back pains might be from eating too many tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants and peppers - these are nightshade vegetables and have 'alkaloids' which mess us the calcium metabolism. If cultures included a lot of these foods in their diets, they typically also included a lot of dairy products because "dairy and nightshades are opposite and complementary; if you eat one, you need the other".
I also learned that chocolate and "caffeine consumption increases the excretion of calcium (away from the bone) as well as magnesium through the urine, which indicates bone loss. Young women seem to be able to compensate for this loss and make it up faster through increased and more efficient calcium absorption from the intestines. Older women, on the other hand with age- and hormone-related calcium imbalances, do not seem to be able to compensate as efficiently, and are at higher risk for thinning bones, especially if their calcium intake is low." P34 - 35
She goes on to talk about studies of how much is too much, and if de-caf is an alternative (it isn't). This information is fascinating.
I plan to give a copy of this book all my friends and family.

Great Primer on Ovarian CancerReview Date: 2003-01-23
A kind friend gave me this book. It gave me a clue about what was happening. I read and re-read it and began to understand my disease. With understanding comes hope.
If you know someone with ovarian cancer -- give them (and yourself) this book.
Gilda's DiseaseReview Date: 1999-12-27
The author writes with authority and compassion, a rather rare combination in the medical profession. A welcomed book at a time when one needs facts combined with heart.
I laughed as I wept; life-or-death questions answered.Review Date: 1997-09-21
This book lives up to its subtitle: sharing personal experiences and a medical perspective on ovarian cancer. The personal experiences are excerpts from Gilda's book "It's Always Something", excerpts from letters to Gene Wilder, and comments from him. I defy any one to be unmoved by these pages. The voice of the cancer victim and the cancer survivor come through, sometimes tragic, sometimes comic, always honest.
The medical perspective, interwoven with the pertinent experiences, is equally valuable. I think it is superb. Dr. Piver has a remarkable talent for clear and succinct treatment of such complex and scary topics as surgical staging, the 30 different types of ovarian cancer, survival rates and alternative therapies. His historical perspective and obvious mastery of the field enable him to answer the most difficult question-- with a minimum of gobbledegook, and with up-to-date information. This book is almost like having a humane and sympathetic gynecological oncologist across the desk.
Of course, this book could save your life or that of someone you love. Information is one of the best weapons we have against this killer. I am in awe of how much information and wisdom these gentlemen have packed into 184 pages. I could not recommend it more highly.
